What to administer depends on the age of your baby. If my baby is still very young and i'm breastfeeding, i eat lots and lots of vegetables. I noticed it helps my baby poos. I don't know if that theory is right but its been working. When baby is old enough, i give her oranges or prune juice
She's 4 months

Good evening mamas, hope we are all good.

Please I am sorry for disturbing you. I just came across a thread created by Debbysuave where she wrote about being pregnant and in need of assistance.

I called her to verify and she said she stays around Ayobo, Lagos, it is not far from where I stay and I plan going to check but I may not be free until Saturday because of work, please if any one can help us verify tomorrow or Thursday, I will really appreciate it though I will still try to do so.

Please she said her EDD is October 27 so it means she will be putting to bed anytime soon.

Yes, it is super awkward but please let us come together to help her once we can verify, please.

She hasn't gotten the items on her hospital list though I intend to help with some of them as well as some clothes(new and worn by my DS.)

Her number is on the thread she created, please check it if you can and reach out if you can.

Thank you

Hi mums
My son ( 1yr and 2months) have this cough that has stayed for long ( since Oct 1). We have changed hospital twice for this. It started with coughing and vomiting, now the coughing and vomiting is no longer there, but he coughs at night. The cough starts around 12pm , he coughs till 1 am. It stops after he goes back to sleep.

For now, he takes vit c(3 times a day) and para (night only). The doctor confirmed his chest is not congested during the last visit .

He was treated of malaria, worm and given antibiotics and given cough syrups during the course of visits in the 2 hospitals. In addition, I gave him honey, added ginger and garlic to our food. I also make sure he wears double cloths at night.
Please assist

Hello Mummies,

Currently dealing with a 20months old toddler who is coughing and throwing up/ with a runny nose and almost zero appetite (P.S. She loves food).

She's taking lots of fluids but not food, when she eats a little...we prepare for a throwing up episode.

We were just treated in the hospital with antibiotics for a food poisoning and after using the follow-up medication for a few days, she was still throwing up so i stopped it and only using cough syrup and vitamins.

I will try the steam bath today. Any other ideas what to do?

I ran to this thread this morning without knowing cough is rampant now. Did they do malaria test for him? We were given a drug for the throwing up. We gave him the drug 10 to 20 mins b4 giving him his other drugs. He is better now just that he coughs at night but not during the day. I also try to keep his food and water warm.

I will try the ori and menthol at um from today. I avoided this b4 cos the atg doc once said it causes jaundice in children. I guess my boy has passed jaundice stage.

This totally explains our situation for weeks now
He couldn't even go to school for a week about 2weeks back
We had to get a different type of antibiotics and cough syrup three days ago, after he has completed his previous treatment. He takes vit c too and I can say his catarrah and cough is almost completely gone.
I'd say take him back to the hospital

It may be allergy. Do you have mold in your house? Damp walls? Dust? Rugs? Heavy curtains?

We don't. The doc also suspected allergy. No mould, no dust, no rugs. Our curtains are light. Infact, I had to use old bedspreads for curtains in the rooms cos we didn't have enough when we moved in to a bigger apartment. The windows are sliding, so we lock it at night cos of the cough. Mine is full blown dry cough- day and night. Very embarrassing.

This could contribute to the persistent cough. Leave a little opening for air to circulate to avoid build up of Co2 as oxygen levels deplete when there's no adequate ventilation. Fan will just be circulating used air with windows locked.

Consider allergy as a more likely cause of night time coughing.

You and your child may need antibiotic and vitamins treatment to ease the cough eventually.

Antihistamines will put a stop to the cough but you have to rule out asthma before using It.

We are currently battling same and above is what doctor suggested after test confirmed upper respiratory tract infection.

So sorry mama. If you bath or clean baby use hot water but not too hot ooo. After cleaning you will see that baby's body is warm before you start the massage. Please steam baby and massage baby with ori and metholetum. That's what I do and always wear baby sleep suit. These weather is not friendly oooo. Put off the fan in baby's room..
How to steam baby. Put hot water in a bowl and put baby's head on the steam that goes up. Please hold baby very well ooo and make sure that the steam is not too hot so you don't burn my baby's face. After that massage baby chest, sides and back with metholetum and ori. Apply some on your hand rub it together and place on baby's face for him to inhale it and apply some around his nose.

Use a thermometer to check. Place an analogue thermometer in armpit for 2 minutes and then read result... it is fever from 37.5 and above, so if you get this kindly give paracetamol every 8 hours and increase to 6 hourly if not coming down.
Effective paracetamol administration will work only if given the right dose... the right dose is weight of child X 15 X 5 divided by how many mg is in the bottle...
for example where is written 125mg/5ml ... in this case you would multiply your child’s weight by 5 and 15 then divided by 125... this would give you the appropriate mls to give
Do this, if persists with cough and catarrh and noisy breathing... run to a children’s hospital close to you
Or government hospital with paediatricians

Remember that fever is not normal and is usually a signal from a part of the brain called the hypothalamus so visit the child doctor as soon as possible

Mamas good evening o, abi good night lipsrsealed
Abeg come to my aid o, mamas of two and above.

Is it true that when one is pregnant for the second it will cause the first to start falling sick? lipsrsealed I know I've heard that it's mere superstition and I actually don't believe it but how do I explain my situation?

OK, first, my neighbor told me that I should stop sleeping on the same bed with my dd. That she'll be jealous of the one in vitro, and that one in turn will be beating her. lipsrsealed It sounded so ridiculous to me and I laughed it off. But she was insistent and said, should my girl fall ill, it's my fault. That I should sleep elsewhere and when my bump is big, I should be bathing with her and make the water from my belly touch her while bathing. She even blamed the recent malaria my girl had on me. I didn't quite take her serious tho.

But coincidentally or otherwise, these days, my girl struggles and cries from her sleep and most times would wake up and find it really hard to sleep back until the early hours of the morning. This in turn affects me as I won't be able to catch enough sleep before getting up to prepare for the day. I keep wondering what's upsetting her from her sleep. I pray for her continuously most times before she's able to sleep off again.

This is making me to begin to think ridiculously, like is it possible my pregnancy is disturbing her? In your subsequent pregnancies, did you experience anything like this? Do I really need to stop sharing a bed with her? Or what do you think it is?

Just coincidence.

Mama I didn't want to believe it until my 16 months old (now 20 months)son started falling sick even before I confirmed pregnancy. He dropped weight from 13kg to 10kg. I must hold him before he sleeps and he will hold unto me with his leg and and arm while asleep but does not cry from sleep. I heard it's common if they are of opposite sex.

We still sleep on the same bed and I don't believe in that bathing water stuff. Just pray for her.

He's over the fear now. Many people confirmed it happened to them.

What I did was to give him the attention he needed, allowed him to be with his father as much as possible and he always prayed for him , limit the carry you and school also helped us. He's better now.

As far as I know, all those nospamin and co don't work for colic.
Google how to make your baby comfortable during colic and you'll see little activities you can do for them to ease their discomfort

Don't be depressed okay. This is all part of motherhood

Is well with you mama, just Google how to easy colic or use the nairaland search button for it.
Always remember to burp them till they belch after eating, you can try tummy time too but be there with them during the tummy time.

Colic ("the navel thing"wink is not something you should medicate. Nospamin doesn't work in most cases, colic usually goes by itself in a few months. Feed your baby, burp him well, bicycle his legs when you see he is uncomfortable (check you tube for videos) or lay him on his tummy (when he is awake). As his intestines develop, it will stop

Stop giving him drugs please, you're giving his kidneys too much work at this stage for no reason
