GeneralFarouq:India had two projects in running, one was HF-73 and other was about a light advanced aircraft after retiring HF-24 Marut. As West & China were working on next generation planes, air force elevated its requirements. HF-73 was canceled to obtain Jaguars from Britain (and skip its development time) and to start LCA altogether. If India took 30 years develop Tejas that was because its requirements kept on changing in every 4-5 years. Radars, engines, pods, net centric warfare and so on. That didn't mean that India couldn't make less complex planes if it wanted to in 90s. For JF-17, compare its airframe design and physical specificational capabilities with those of IOC of early Tejas (not to compare far superior FOC). The kind of missiles, radars and so on it utilitizes were made to reduce cost so that they can be inducted numbers with low budget. You want any more reason? China itself doesn't use JF-17. It's a low cost one for poor nations. Reason being India. Air Force had doubled its strength between 1990 and 2010 while defense budget close to triple between 2009 and 2018. Next decade will be a revolution for Indian aviation sector once India operationalizes most of its systems and puts them in production. 2 Likes |

Goel: Why would China use the JF-17 when it already flies the J-10? Your assertion makes no sense. I understand you are Indian, you have every right to defend your country but please make reasonable arguments. 1 Like |

Goel: From evidence seen after the February 27th incident, only one MIG-21 fighter was shot down. Claims of any other shoot down made by India and Pakistan are just claims. Your comment of F-16s not used in more also makes no sense. From what was seen in February 27, JF-17, Mirages and F-16s were used. With the JF-17 and Mirages used to strike ground targets, and the F-16s used to lay ambush for Indian fighters. Off course India has a far better Air Force than Pakistan, but the Pakistani's showed that they would make India work very hard to achieve an air victory in actual war situation. That's to say that the prospect of Indian air looses would negate the value of victory. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Goel: The JF-17 is a capable light weight aircraft. It's in the same class as the Gripen C/D. It also fills the same gap of being an affordable modern air asset. 3 Likes |

Xbee007:What I mean is China flies the J-10 which is a medium multirole fighter, why would they fly a light multirole fighter? Big Air Forces around the world do not fly Light Multirole Fighters only medium and above. Example the US, Russia, China, Japan, Saudi-Arabia etc |

Xbee007:The JF-17 is just assembled in Pakistan, development was done in China and all critical parts like radar, engines and avionics are produced in China. 6 Likes |

kabe1: Aside from this, the JF17 design is short legged in terms of distance. The Chinese specific requirements being a very large country cannot be met by this aircraft but most Arab and African countries not interested in geographic power projection find it useful but no less potent. The LCA is also short legged and it is an Indian development. Short of the Russian SU 30MKI and more recently the Rafale, India does not have any heavy weight combat aircraft to speak off. Pakistan is countering with ageing F 16s but JF 17s Block 2 and 3 are being prepared as potent answers to SUs. So where's this idea about being cheap equala being weak coming from? 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by SuperSixSeven: 1:15pm On Nov 02, 2019 |
JF 17 Block 2 and 3 will not perform anywhere near a SU30 or MIG35, it designed as a low-cost / low-perfomance fighter. You cant turn a giraffe into a racing horse. 7 Likes |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by kabe1: 1:48pm On Nov 02, 2019 |
SuperSixSeven:They are not in the same class. A JF-17 is not designed to compete against an SU-30 which is a heavy weight air superiority fighter. It doesn't compare to the MIG-35, the MIG-35 is not yet in service with any air force, including Russia. The most advanced MIG currently in service is the MIG-29m and m2. |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by kabe1: 1:56pm On Nov 02, 2019 |
Jimi24: India has 249 units of SU-30MKI, they are still going to purchase 30 more which includes MIG-29. Indian Air Force also has 66 units of MIG-29UPG Indian Navy has 45 MIG-29k. Indian Air Force is far far far ahead of Pakistan. When you say India does not have any heavy weight fighter jets to speak of, I just laugh at you. 1 Like 1 Share |

BabaOwen: Everything(military) can't be distributed equally between the north and south. In some arms the north may have it more then the south, likewise the same for south. The south is naturally protected to some extent by our mangrove\swarmps forest, rivers, seas and oceans.whereas the north is an entire different issue. 1 Like |

Nicheey:Lol... What stop this mangrove/swamps,forest,rivers,seas and oceans from protecting the biafrans when the 3rd marine commando invaded attacked the biafran military through the Niger delta? The Nigerian military is struggling against boko haram, ISWAP, Fulani herdsmen, armed bandits, armed militias in the north, just the way they struggled against MEND in the Niger delta, till yardua granted amnesty to the militants. A powerful military like NATO or the USA will attack Nigeria from the north and south and our military will collapse within a week. Even with all the military facilities in the north, it still not peaceful. The way you people do find an excuse to give eh . I hope you will also agree with a man from Rivers or Akwa ibom when he tells you that he wants to start controlling the oil wells in his states cause they are located on their land. Nigerian army university is also located in war ravage borno state, can't the military institutions be located in the south then One day, a ruthless Southerner will become the president and insist on fairness or make everybody go their way. 5 Likes 1 Share |

BabaOwen: Why would NATO or America attack Nigeria? Can they handle the consequences that follows after an unsuccessful attack on Nigerian soil? The nearest USA military base is at Djibouti (Camp Lemonier) Assuming they're attacking by sea, logistics is a huge problem my dear friend. The Usa doesn't have the vessels (under camp lemonire) to persecute a war with Nigeria by sea. Except hundreds of frigates leave the (HQ Norfolk, Virginia) – Homeland Defense and North Atlantic Ocean. Which I don't think they'd likely do. Before the relation worsen to a state of war Nigeria may have seen need to armed her self to the teeth. Where else should the university be located ? In ogoni land or efik land? Do u intend to an industry build far from the raw materials?. I don't think there's any better place the university would be than where it is right now. We're not talking bout oil wells bruh. This is a military thread we shouldn't politicized it. Aside from the north east where the war is going on,the rest of the sub regions are peace my friend. I stayed in jos for 15years straight,I could tell how peaceful is it compare to some southern states. The Nigerian military didn't struggle against mends, rather some factors were preventing the military crack down on the militant group(s) (senates, chiefs, kings, governors, etc). With due respect. permit me to say you're,You're misinformed. |
Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Nobody: 11:55pm On Nov 03, 2019 |
Nicheey:misinformed in what aspect exactly? Is it that the Nigerian military is struggling against rag tag groups like Fulani herdsmen or ethnic militias or didn't they struggle against MEND? MEND was bombing oil facilities almost everyday, before Yaradua granted them amnesty, do you know how much that has been spent on those militants? Do you know what happened immediately buhari wanted to stop paying Militants in the Niger delta, those guys started bombing again, while they were bombing oil wells in the Niger delta, the Nigerian army started 'operation crocodile smile " when buhari saw Nigeria was losing lots of money bacause of the way they are been bomb, he started paying back the militants. Tell me one operation the Nigerian military partake in, and it become successful since 1999, please don't tell me about how they raised odi and zaki biam down o 2 Likes 1 Share |

US or Nato will struggle against Nigeria? haha, i don ear am finish, if you truly know the extent of US military power, it will make you feel it's the end of the world, let's not even go there, US will occupy every single neighboring country near us, with or without their consent, and will destroy us by land and sea, shoot, all they need to do is grease some palm, and those neighboring countries becomes US allies, if the US should use excessive force for example, the taliban would be history by now, problem is they are simply avoiding collateral damage, if not, all of Afghanistan would be durst by now |
