Russia rivals Apache with Mi-35, if you ask them for combat helicopter sale, Russia will market Mi-35 to you. Apart from the maker, only 2 countries bought Mi-28, while 20 countries bought Apache and 80 countries bought Mi-24/35. Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said production of the first set of Mines Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles by the Nigerian Army Command Engineering Depot in Kaduna is at 80 per cent completion. Buratai stated this yesterday during the inspection of work at the depot at Rigachikun in Kaduna State. He said the decision to go into local production of combat vehicles, nicknamed: Ezugwu MRAP, was meant to deploy local content and technology to support army operations. The Army chief said the first set of MRAPs would be rolled out soon, adding that the vehicles were being produced with 100 per cent local engineers of the army. He said the vehicles were also made of over 70 per cent local content in collaboration with the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). “I am very much satisfied with the level of work on Ezugwu MRAP, and this is our flagship vehicle for the infantry and, of course, the army for now. Read Also: Army will continue to ensure security, safety in Lagos, Nigeria- Burutai “The progress is quite impressive and we hope to display them very soon during the COAS Conference. I will be here again before we finally role them out. “As I have been briefed, it is up to 80 per cent of the 10 they intend to produce immediately and it is a good number. “They will soon be inaugurated. Once they are formally inaugurated, we will launch them, operationalise them in our available theatres of operation. “They are going to influence our operations not only in the Northeast but across the country. In fact, even if we get any external challenge, this vehicle will be very useful,” he said. We simply didnt pay for the Jaguars Maintance and Support contract . Ironically we have tob lame our military dictators and leadership in the 80s for that. oyinpr: Just think about the A29s that are going to come from the US. the contract includes ground training devices, mission planning and debrief systems, spares, ground support equipment, alternate mission equipment, contractor support and weapon systems. It is the standard to do contracts in that way or would anyone buy a brand new BMW without a warranty? |

It also depends on the countries involved in the deals , their ability to negotiate inorder to reduce the costs ( not monetary costs ) And not everybody pays cash , funnily one of the countries u mentioned used American aid money to finance majority of the said deals with America. 3 Likes 1 Share |

I don't usually comment on internal affairs But if somebody asked me , i will say that the tucano deal is a good deal Why ? Becz of this reason The 500 + million dollars was government of Nigeria's money stolen and stashed in American banks in America. It is very difficult , close to impossible to recover black money within a reasonable period of time , if at all, due to legal complications usually put up deliberately by the country where the black money is stashed since that country seeks to earn interests from the stashed black money and keep the money inside the country. Ever wonder why Switzerland allows US black money in its banks to be returned to US but does not allow other countries who r weaker to get the black money back , they cite legal hurdles which they claim as Sovereign right to stop black money from being returned to the countries from where it was stolen or illegally transferred. If Switzerland refuse US America will kick Switzerland banks out of the SWIFT which will destroy Switzerland banking within hours. Other countries don't have this type of leverage to recover stolen money stashed abroad. Anyways i hope u guys realise, instead of the 500 million dollars of stolen Nigerian money generating millions of interest for the American banks for God knows how many years to come , u now have got a deal where that unusable money is financing a govt to govt arms deal with all the best possible bells and whistles. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

AIRCRAFT SERVICEABILITY: NAF TO EXPAND PARTNERSHIP WITH NEDDI, IBETO GROUP FOR ENHANCED SELF-RELIANCE The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is set to further strengthen its strategic partnerships with the National Engineering Design Development Institute (NEDDI) as well as Ibeto Group, an indigenous company, both in Nnewi, Anambra State, to further boost Research and Development (R& ) efforts towards finding innovative solutions to NAF engineering and technical problems. The rationale for expanding the partnerships is to ensure enhanced self-reliance in aircraft and equipment maintenance for the effective and efficient employment of Air Power in response to Nigeria’s national security imperatives. This was made known yesterday, 5 November 2019, by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, when he visited the 2 organizations. While on the visit to the Ibeto Group Factory Complex, the CAS expressed his extreme delight with how the company had continued to partner with the NAF to produce batteries for the Mi-35P Helicopter Gunship which was being employed in operations to combat terrorists and insurgents in the Northeast as well as armed bandits and other criminal elements in the Northwest. He lauded the contributions of the company not only to the NAF but also to the entire Country. The CAS noted that the availability of spares and consumables was crucial to having sufficient number of serviceable aircraft and, in turn, critical to ensuring effective and efficient employment of Air Power, which is vital to success in modern warfare. He noted that while the NAF continues to enjoy support from its allies and friendly nations, it also realizes the need to develop indigenous capacity to produce some of the needed aircraft spares locally. This, he said, informed the NAF’s decision to prioritize its partnerships with local companies like the Ibeto Group. The CAS also disclosed that, in order to further benefit from the inherent capabilities of the Company, a joint team comprising NAF officers and staff of Ibeto Group would immediately be set up to explore other areas of mutual benefit, that would boost NAF operations, through reduced aircraft downtimes, whilst also saving much-needed foreign exchange and implicitly keying into the Federal Government’s policy of job creation for Nigerian youths. Earlier in his remarks the Executive Director Operations and Investment Ibeto Group, Chief Eze Echesi, who received the CAS on behalf of the Chairman of the Group, Chief Cletus Ibeto, stated that the Company was extremely pleased with the level of support and collaboration between the 2 organizations. He equally canvassed for a deepening of the partnership as well as expansion of the areas of patronage to include the production of batteries for other NAF aircraft types as well as the production of lubricants and other consumables for NAF platforms. The visit to Ibeto Group featured a brief on the Company’s history, activities, products and projects, which was followed by a tour of the factory complex. At NEDDI Nnewi, Air Marshal Abubakar, who was received by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr Dr Arinze Nwosu, restated his commitment to developing indigenous technology through collaboration with the Institute. He noted that the NAF, through its existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NEDDI’s Parent Agency, the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, had undertaken a few collaborative projects with the Institue. However, he emphasized that his visit to the Institute was aimed at identifying additional areas of collaboration where the NAF could tap from the Institute’s knowledge base and experience. He noted that this would include collaborative engagements between NEDDI and the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) Kaduna. He reiterated that no country could fight a war effectively when wholly dependent on other countries for technology; hence the need to continuously look inwards for homegrown solutions. Earlier, the NEDDI MD/CEO, while welcoming the CAS, stated that the Institute could serve as a centre for human capacity development of NAF engineers and technicians, especially in the areas of engineering design; machining; welding, fabrication and equipment assembly as well as Information and Communication Technology (ICT), amongst others. Before undertaking a tour of the facilities and products of the Institute, the CAS was briefed on NEDDI’s organization, skills and competencies, existing collaborative engagements as well as recent successes. The CAS, who was accompanied by Principal Staff Officers from Headquarters NAF as well as the Air Officers Commanding (AOCs) Mobility Command and Ground Training Command, had earlier visited the 115 Special Operations Group (115 SOG) Port Harcourt to inspect the ongoing reactivation work on an Mi-35P helicopter being jointly executed by a team of expatriate technical experts as well as NAF engineers and technicians. jpphilips: I have proved u wrong wit some statistics already, 80 real air forces bought Mi-35 while only 2 chose Mi-28. I already said Mi-35 has superior armour, no weapon on Mi-28 that is not on Mi-35. NAF's 12 new Mi-35 has the newest latest most modern most sophisticated Russian avionic technology capabilities of year 2005 to beat older Mi-28. I won't waste my time writing long comparison of capabilities that everyone can Google find. Why don't you write your long comparison analysis to prove me wrong and prove wrong all 80 air forces that chose to buy Mi-35 not Mi-28?
