Thank you so much for this informations. I plan on coming for my masters, I studied Chemical Engineering and would like do something related to engineering because I heard it’s lucrative over there in Germany. A 450€ pay as a student is still better at least with all I have been reading 400€ can be possible to sustain one for the month, that’s houserent, feeding and health insurance.

I don’t plan to abandon studies because I can see studying is one of the best ways to get PR abroad. As a student” and without the knowledge of German yet, I don’t mind doing all sorts of menail jobs as long as there’s job over there (which you mentioned I apply for big cities)

I’m 26yrs old, working legal menail Jobs is not a problem as long as it’s possible, after masters one can talk of getting better job, but to me it’s a privilege to work and earn money for bills and maybe 50€-100€ one can send back to the family....
But the BA is my hope of savings, and during holidays one can also save from working full time.

Sis, I appreciate your time, I know I’m too inquisitive and night sound inconveniencing but I really appreciate this.

Dont expect too much from getting pr through getting a job in your line easily especially when you don't take semester breaks and learn Deutsche. No one is saying you shouldn't be in a haste to finish masters and get job but the truth is Germans dont really care about your degree as there are plenty hundreds with same degree you graduated with. Germans only care aboutvwhat you can actually bring to the table. Thats why it's adviced you learn deustche for a start to c1 this will eliminate your competition by 90%. Another thing is internships or observorships lol these internships on your cv represent needed practical exposure to your intended line of work and will set you miles apart than someone that rushto graduate in 18months only

Also depending on where you stay 400€ won't be enough to cover rent, let alone other expenses especially If you are unfortunate/fortunate to school in Berlin.
On the other hand, lager jobs in Berlin pay well and the residence permit you get last 3yrs before renewing with proof of blocked account funds. However if you live in the outskirts bundeslander of Berlin aka Brandenburg, you'll be paying far less on rent and have to review block account yearly for you rp as a student.

As far as your age is concerned in Deutschland no one gives two shits about that...that's why a 40yr old german man can still be waiting in line/batch to go to medical school to start work as an arzt. As far as menial jobs go your only enemy is not your age but your Level of deutsche

All you typed is totally understandable, but my fear here it seems it’s not possible for one to work and take care of bills while you save your BA for renewals, this is the scary thing here.
Getting PR after masters is different ball game entirely which I understand, but if one can save alittle after the extra 1/half years and the BA one can easily port or at least be hopeful.

I’m really scared, most of the schools I have been applying are not in Germany big cities

I’m really really worried now, the BA money is my last card heaven and earth, going over there to borrow or whatever to make up the BA is the scariest shit.

Don't be afraid, you are African you will find a way. Alot of ppl cut down a lot of expenses drastically

Stop being afraid of BA like its one necessity to base your life on. I have an uncle in Deutschland who paid for a to and fro ticket from his former residence in Berlin to Nigeria.

He's fending off from menial jobs and has almost accumulated money for express entry to Canada. He didn't also learn Deutsche. What am I saying? when you get to Germany you will know how and in what ways to survive.

..........

5yrs later

Motherfucker, this shit looks so strange reading it in 2024

Thanks good to hear, most of the schools I have been applying to are not in Big cities, I’ll have to do more research because I need to work also while I study, study is a priority but working is also important for bills.

My BA is my last hope, because visa renewals with BA is scary due to I don’t have anywhere to run to borrow, if I exhaust my BA my studies would likely be revoked because nowhere to get money to renew the next year.

I was thinking one would easily get menial jobs to fend while the BA remains safe. I might attend German classes here in Lagos if that would help, but if you guys are saying one would exhaust his/her BA over there while go borrow to renew the next year then I better tell myself the truth and find another option because this is as good as suicide...

Wow. But from what I read through the threads, one can get a job with a 9euro per hr minimum wage with the 20hrs a week allowed during sessions one can easy make Atleast 500-700euros monthly which could cover monthly house rent and other basic bills....then during the long holidays one can work full-time, with this one won’t have any reason to use up his/her BA money...it’s what I thought but pls can you help me clarify n give me a briefing of what one should be expecting.

Pls and I’m sorry for my anxiety just want to work on my expectations so I don’t get disappointed over there.
I have started my processing already.

Pls Sir or anyone help out. Thanks
If you think that way, you may be disappointed.
Are you saying you already have a job waiting for you as you arrive? Or will you search? It's very easy to do all these 500-700 euros every month calculation.lol..I did it way back too.. Reality is different. Remember you have school to attend, and you'll have assignments and exams to pass..
Just calm down and arrive first... like I said earlier, saying you won't touch your blocked account money is not possible.

But Boss you keep mentioning me exhausting my block account, pls come out Sincerely and direct, do you mean I won’t easily find menial jobs? Or...
Like I said earlier, my Block account is my lifetime savings if I come over there and can’t find a job while my block account is exhausted I’m doomed and I wouldn’t want to put myself in such situation...where would I get another block account to renew my visa the next year or feed....things like that push ppl to desperation.

Pls come out directly, tell me the reality over there and let me know exactly what I’m getting myself into, the indirectly answers everyone has been giving are helping....things like this push ppl to do illegals when they get over there becos one has to know exactly what he/she is getting himself into.

Coming is not a problem, I have 5m fixed to abroad abroad, I would like to know exactly what I’m getting myself into. I even have a mom whom I intend to send at least 50€ monthly for feeding.
But everyone seems to be hiding some realities n are not coming out straight....Help a brother pls.

Most Nigerian students have a job even before graduating here, some got a job in their field while still studying .

The only few people I know who had a hard time here getting a job after studying are those who who don't know how to speak German.

If you study some courses, you don't necessarily need to know the German language. People in IT can get a job without knowing how to say 'hello' in German.

I hardly know anyone who studied here who isn't doing well in their field. It isn't all that rosy though wink.

And that's why it's good to always research before studying any course here, some courses aren't just lucrative in DE . Apply to study in big cities, where getting a job wouldn't be difficult. Don't just apply to any city for the sake of studying here. I'm saying this cause I have a friend who lives in a big city and she made three thousand euros a month after tax working during the holidays. And she made this while doing the so called 'menial jobs'. And oh, she doesn't know how to speak German wink.

I hate when people talk about menial jobs as if it's a bad thing to do. If after graduating and one couldn't find a job or needs to learn German, what's wrong in doing a menial job for the time being?.

Most Nigerians here do menial jobs and it's a fact, I don't see anything wrong with it undecided. Nigerian students or even German students themselves do menial jobs while still studying till they are ready to work in their field.

If you are not ready to do a menial job at least for once, then Germany isn't for you, sorry!. These menial jobs have enabled men to bring over their wives and children to Germany, so you can't tell me nothing!.

Yes it's abroad but it's not meant for you if you are lazy and too proud to do a menial job!.
Now I'm curious, how's the finance field in terms of getting a job

I perfectly understand your fears and worries. I can relate bro. I feel you will sort out things when you get there. Though it ain't gonna be easy, but its doable. People seem to be hiding vital informations for reasons beyond me. Or worse sugar coat or misled you.

I will urge you to try as much as you can to learn Deutsch. It importance can't be overstated. Also equip yourself with some relevant skills. Chances are you will find minimal jobs even in smaller cities (but opt for bigger cities, the bigger the better)

Here is my take:
1. That you won't touch your BA money is to some extent impossible and unrealistic. But try to be as frugal and economical as you can. Live within your means.
2. Get mini jobs and save wisely.
3. You may even be fortunate to have someone lend you this sums at the end of the year or better still you may land a lucrative part time job.

Its possible. Don't limit yourself, be optimistic and have a positive mind. I can assure you you will turn out fine.

Well since you want some reality, this is mine.

Block Account: There is no way you won't touch money from your Block Account, it's very Impossible.

Speaking German: If possible, learn Deutsch before coming to Germany. There are lot of English speakers in Berlin, but very little in other cities. It will also cost you more money to learn Deutsch here, so your best bet is to Learn it from Nigeria.

Getting a job while schooling: Actually speaking Deutsch & networking with fellow students would get you a job much faster. So imagine you can't speak Deutsch? No sugar coating bro.

Prepare for Cold: I swear, this place is freaking cold in Winter & Spring. Berlin is a lot warmer though compared to other cities.

This is my opinion, I believe everyone has theirs. Make nobody break my head for here undecided

From my research and reading the 5m would likely be used up. BA is 4.2m
Ticket is about 200k from my findings
Health insurance about 20k
And one needs about 300-400k in cash to take if some immediate bills over there before unlocking the BA

So...5m don finish na, my worry is if exhausting the 5m where would I run to, as much as I’m a hustler I wouldn’t want anything to keep stranded abroad and maybe push me to illegals.

But I’m learning n getting encouraged from feedbacks thou.

You would touch it because you would need the money to stand on your feet before you find a proper job as a student. Getting a job might take you a month after you arrive, Just being realistic.

Victorex001:

Would the German school in Lagos help? It goes for 65-90k for 11-13wks.

My brother, that 65-90k is around 200+ Euros. Please learn in Nigeria before coming coming. It's cheaper.

Victorex001:

What if, I don’t get the chance to learn German before coming, would I still find a job?

To be honest, I don't know. But why would you want to put yourself in such tight situation?

Lastly, I see people telling you to get an SL. Will you just meet someone in Germany & tell them to sign an SL for you? Unless they are your relatives or you are paying them to help you with SL. I don't know how others are getting it done but I don't like being at people's mercy, begging them to help me with SL & licking people ass, laughing at their stupid jokes because of SL.

My own plan was: Just come here, start work, earn some money, pay for your rent. Then you will still have some money in your BA as reserve.

Just my opinion.

I really really appreciate your honest answer, and about taking me at least a month to get a job is quite understandable, I’ll definitely touch my BA but someone made it like I would exhaust my BA that made me scary...as long as one would eventually get a job even if it takes 2months.

I’ll try my best to learn Germany here, even if it’s A1 for 11wks, hope that helps.

Exactly Bro...I didn’t buy the idea of SL, because many Nigerians are always wicked to each other.

I appreciate the honest reply...Are you in Germany now?

Calm down. The probability that you will use up your money is very low but it's good you are already thinking of such situation.

Just apply to bigger cities, you will be fine.

HI dear, are you on Whatsapp, just a brief convo with you. Is it okay with you?
