I guess, this is FG motive. By reducing the rate, people would be force to invest in biz rather than tbills and this in turn create employment and stimulate economic growth.

so so what happens if the price of crude tank and govt needs money to finance deficit budget. wouldn't the govt be back to tb business again?

Sounds like greed over patriotism. I pray the single digit rate is sustained and money finds its way back to the real economy funding activities that create jobs and growth for the economy.

Rome was burning while Emperor Nero was fiddling about....
We have more pressing issues for us to worry about and fix ... than all these Tbills saga
Fix Power, Infrastructure, Steel Industry ...it will drive growth and create millions of jobs..
But FG wont do that......
Basic economics tells us that monetary policy don't work in isolation...
It needs good support from the fiscal angle....
Thats what the CBN Governor wont tell us ....
Until FG is serious about the fiscal angle..... rate will still move back to double digit....
Its just a matter of time....
Meanwhile, inflationary pressure are building up...

So, a man who lends to his country is greedy and unpatriotic?

I wonder why you lots are so bitter about how people invest their hard earned money.

Tell your government to grow the real economy by creating enabling environment for businesses to thrive and not subtly forcing people to put their money in a volatile economy.

Treasury Bills! Why It Is The Best Investment For Now:

A lot of people have been asking for some time what Tbills are all about and where they could buy the bills from,

This thread is dedicated for all issues related to Treasury Bills, their going rates, when Auctions are due and why they should be bought,

I am not a Finance person, am just a trader who was lucky to work in one financial insitution years back so I might not be the best person to answer questions on this as they come, But am sure we have a lot of financial gurus with CFAs in this Forum and all our questions would be answered,

Please admins I am not trying to break any rules, neither am I scam. I am just desparate. All claims herein are verifiable.

PLEASE HELP ME!
THIS IS A GENUINE PLEA FOR HELP.

HELP ME.
I am a student. I was referred to an investment platform by a close associate. I started with small investments and then gradually increased it when it looked trustworthy.

Meanwhile, I started taking loans from other students, and promised to return them, with interest.

At a point, things went south real fast, and it was from one story to another. All withdrawals cancelled, and we were asked to reinvest to withdraw old money.
Now, three months later, ALL my creditors have let loose on me, the most painful thing being that all of them trusted me because of my reputation.

Please, I need help. I have held it in for two long; I have done all I could do, I have tried to even borrow to invest and release funds, but my reputation is already ruined; no one wants to lend me money. The stigma has even made me unable to do school work. Our just concluded exams was a mess, but that is secondary.

Even if I could get people to lend me money, it would take months before I could retrieve the over 700k in my account.

This afternoon, I was summoned to my school's security office where I had to sign that I will pay one particular person before Friday.

Tomorrow, another person's reputation will be ruined because of my decision - she used money other students placed in her custody to give me as a loan, all because of trust.

She has been calling, texting, crying, I don't even know what to do. If suicide will solve the problem, it's not now I thought of it. But it can't solve anything.

All my claims are verifiable. I currently have at least five agreements duly stamped by the court for different people, granting them to take whatever means necessary to retrieve their money.

Please help me. I am the first child of my parents, and though not the breadwinner, I am taking care of two of my siblings staying with me. My parents are both advanced in age, and this will break them.

I need help, I admit it. I am a charity case.
I need help. Anything laid in your heart, please take urgent action. I beg. I beg you in the name of whoever or whatever touches your heart.
PLEASE HELP ME! I DON'T EVEN HAVE 24 hours. I can't sleep. I just woke from a troubled sleep

My thoughts are scattered as I type, Nairaland community help me. Anything you can comfortably spare. I have to raise over 800 thousand naira, but even your five hundred naira means a lot to me.

When you think it couldn’t get worse now another ridiculous assumption. Someone few days ago was very happy about the fake news from punch that individuals are barred from buying treasury bills because according to him profits from treasury bills are ‘free money’.

Some of us who invest in treasury bills live abroad and you think we are unpatriotic and greedy by lending to our home country to build infrastructures. You think everybody has time to run a business or even knows how to run a business in a risky environment such as Nigeria. The money we lend to government in treasury bills is put into building of infrastructures that employ many Nigerians. You see building of infrastructures from treasury bills funds creates jobs. Indirectly we are creating jobs. Those folks who earn money working in infrastructural projects funded by treasury bills and bonds in turn put that money back into the economy. So treasury bills investors are not unpatriotic and we are not greedy because our country and many of our fellow citizens are benefiting from our investments.

Another point is that I will never put my money into any business in Nigeria while I reside abroad. Even if treasury bills rate goes to 0.00001%, I will never put my hard earned money into any business in Nigeria. Until our govt. in Nigeria creates a friendly business environment, I will be glad to leave my funds in savings account in the country of my residence than to lose them trying to invest in risky businesses back home.

Well strategically speaking , even if its 5% I die here. Cos I have invested enough in the Nigeria I know, any addition would be counter productive.

This is certainly better than nothing or savings account remember the true yield /upfront interest.

My next move would rather be to learn a skill that can pay me even from my bedroom, maybe become a writer, start a YouTube channel, do editting jobs or anything that needs my services not my money cheesy

I keep telling my friends that the SOURCE of the money is more important than the money.

This is what we warn people about risk in this platform. The economy is volatile- if you keep listening to ppl who tell you “real economy”, be very careful,so that you don’t start begging like this. Take calculated risk in this country pls.

Guys, inflation is very scary o.

10 mil in 21 years time will be equivalent to 1 mil today if Nigeria where to maintains a yearly inflation rate of 10%. That is, 10 mil in 2040 will have the same purchasing power as 1 mil today. Here is the math;

10,000,000×(1−0.1)^21 = 1,094,189.8

It is best to setup spare money in a way that it earn some returns no matter how little.

Inflation ie fisher's effect generally isn't sacrosanct.
Inflation rate from NBS is more or less rubbish.

Interesting...

No. The 10k @ahiboilandgas mentioned is the delivery amount. I believe the business model and strategy is that the business owner gets 10k per week while the barber manages the shop and take care of the expenses. So even if the barber makes 20k in a week, it does not concern the owner in as far as his/her 10k is delivered. I like the model and strategy if this is what it is. The barber is not being paid any salary. It is like 'run the shop and pay me 10k weekly'. There are people that barb their hair weekly. When my kids are going back to school, i spend 800 for three of us. This is already close to the average 5 people to be barb in a day.

Yes, I understand but I was referring to your inaccurate breakdown. They certainly need more hairs to barb than in your breakdown to achieve the said amount.
