Honestly, you are better off in Nigeria considering your age and how much you have. How you can invest that money, I really don't know. Maybe treasury bills?

Treasury bills? How's does that business goes?

A visa does not guarantee an income ANYWHERE on earth.

A visa also does not guarantee that they will allow you to enter their country at their airport.

If they are not convinced that you are a genuine visitor or student they will return the person back to the country of origin on the next flight.

At age 50 MOST immigration officers at the point of entry will have serious doubts as to the genuineness of your intentions to actually study as 50 years is classed as middle age when you are expected to have finished ALL your studies including PHD.

Someone I know who was 25 and had a first class degree was granted a course related visa to the UK but was denied entry at their airport and deported back to Naija as the immigration officer was not convinced he was gonna go back after the course and all the money spent was wasted and this was at a time Nigerians were not flooding their embassies with visa applications.

Forget going abroad to start afresh as any country abroad worth going to ALL SHARE INFORMATION about people they have denied visas and you don't want to waste that N2.5m on pursuing a visa that may swallow up N2.5m with no visa to show for it at the end of the day.

Stop throwing good money after bad as the grass may seem greener on the other side but because Nigerians don't tell you the truth about what they do to earn a living abroad, people back home think they are better off going abroad. BIG FAT LIE.

Moreover, at 50 you may be able to compete with a 30 year old mentally but you can't compete with one physically as that is not natural and you don't want to be in the position of Nigerians abroad around 50 years old or older (male and female) who have died of heart attacks whilst at their menial long hour jobs. These guys had no choice as they could not come back to Nigeria empty handed and so without work permits, age not being on their side and overworking their bodies, they died due to over work as the spirit was willing but the body was weak and middle aged as they were over 50 years old or there about.

AT ANY AGE YOU have to think of using your brain to earn a living and not your muscles meaning that you have to work smarter and not harder and at any age you have no reason to leave Nigeria for a foreign land if you can not apply for a Highly Skilled Migrant Visa which is only given (with limited quotas) to people with qualifications AND work experience in fields where these foreign countries have a skills shortage e.g Doctors, Nurses, IT personnel, Engineers, Tax Accountants etc.

Some Nigerians actually got good jobs with Multinational companies in Nigeria and got posted all over the world with their employer handling their visa processes but this happened when they were in their 20's and in your case as being an employee in Naija is not an option the ONLY option seems for you to start a small scale business or a few small scale businesses and see how it goes and forget what people around you may say. Your qualification can not always feed you in Nigeria.

Do you know the number of Nigerians stranded abroad but can not come back home due to shame and empty pockets after wasting their most productive years abroad ?

If it is people around you including family members or your spouse that are making you feel as if you haven't achieved as much, then it is better to avoid their company or relocate away from them to a cheaper state in Nigeria where N2.5m is still big money and can start a lucrative business because if you keep hanging around these so called friends, family, in laws and out laws, and they help you finish that N2.5m you WILL now see human beings for who they really are with their poison tongues.

The same people you spent the N2.5m on WILL turn round and call you lazy.

And don't let fake visa or visa lottery criminals dupe you of your money because a visa lottery is just that - a lottery at times with a one in 14 million chance of winning as evidenced by the limited number of people that win the lotto in Nigeria.

If you know the number of people in Nigeria that can open a business wit just N50,000 you will marvel.

The simplest and guaranteed business you can start with a fraction of that N2.5m is a restaurant / Mama Put or just a pepper soup joint and if it means relocating to a cheaper state in Nigeria to open it then do so before you finish business capital that God has given you on daily living and chasing a visa that does not guarantee an income ANYWHERE on earth.

Finally there are a lot of Nigerian in those countries you want to emigrate to that do not have the equivalent of N2.5 million in their bank accounts both home and abroad combined. Most of the money they earn abroad is used to pay for income taxes, health insurance, rent, mortgage, water bill, Gas, Electric, community taxes, tv licence, travel and all the things you see on TV that makes those countries work and look appealing.

If some of these Nigerians get N2.5 million Naira equivalent in their bank accounts today, a lot of them will come back to Nigeria yesterday.

Hmmmmmmmm!!! This is the best advice i have seen on this post. It is full of wisdom and well-thought words of advice.
@OP, you are old enough to be my father and for that i will advise you like i will advise my father.Guess what my advice is? Please read the quoted post again 10 times and take his advice. From the way you joined your words together it shows that you are educated far above average.

Now, if you must not take his advice please ensure you have a job offer of the kind of job you will like to do in any country you wanna go. Dont deceive yourself it is not every job you can do at your age in the western world or else where. Some of the jobs available will shorten your like span by one year for each day you do it.Lol!!!

I am not really a good adviser but please take the advice of that young man. But finally it is your life good luck to whatever you decide.

I wish you well sir!!!

This is one of the main problems with people on this forum - inability to stay on topic!

The poster said he is TIRED of Nigeria, instead of addressing his circumstances and the situation at hand, you proceed to write a ridiculous epistle on your very LIMITED knowledge of what goes on abroad lipsrsealed

I'm sick of people saying "stay back and do business" please what business? Or is everyone destined to be a business man in Nigeria.

Again, the OP clearly stated that he wants to LEAVE Nigeria - best believe that a man of his age will certainly have valid reasons for wanting to do so.

You are absolutely correct, inasmuch as I also have the understanding of why some people are asking me to stay back and do business.

You got the drift and you have the understanding that my mind is no longer here. Yes, we are considering age, which is a good factor to consider, but I don't see it as an impediment. No doubt, my reasons go beyond what to eat or live. It's about value for life and the growing children.

All the same, every advice is important and welcome.

I know the advice I heeded to in the past and the implications and I also know what I am heading on for now.

Thanks everyone.

Thanks sir. Nice option. I was actually talking to someone who does exactly that just this last weekend. It's an option to explore. The UAE drivers licence takes about 6 months to be out. It is worth the wait anyway.

Thanks.
Please I'm interested in this UAE driving job , please give me more info .

I will get across to you when I am through with the findings. You can drop your email address or WhatsApp contact, so that when I find out all the details, I can get back to you.

Try to know that it's not the 2 weeks visa or the 2 months expandable visa that is used in this regard.

OP,
Let me come in here at this point.

There are only 3 pathways to moving abroad:
a) Study
b) Work
c) Investment

You are more likely to get a visa out of the country with permanent stay as an investor. Most countries will welcome you when you come with cash to invest, or you come with cash to study (which does not guarantee permanent stay). I would advise you to do some business for the next 3 years and grow your cash base massively.

Then take the money and locate a country with constant power and make your investment. Countries have different investment criteria like your minimum capital injection. You need to look at this option. With this option, even if you are as old as Methuselah, your chances of getting permanent stay are enhanced because you are adding to the economy via job creation and cash injection.

Some countries even allow you to buy their passport with as low as $100,000 (N36m). A single contract with the Nigerian govt can give you this money if you are lucky.

There is a lot I can tell you about this but I cannot say more.
NB: I am already working on one such investment visa and I am using a law firm to do it. It costs money but it is worth the effort.

This is over simplified and misleading. No legitimate Nigerian immigrant anywhere in the world will go back even with N25m in his account. Yes you can start a viable business with that money in Nigeria, but you can never put a price on peace of mind, security, a functioning fire service, good roads, stable water and electricity, safe food, clean air, good healthcare, access to loans, no need to bribe anyone...

Yes you can start a viable business with that money in Nigeria, but you can never put a price on peace of mind, security, a functioning fire service, good roads, stable water and electricity, safe food, clean air, good healthcare, access to loans, no need to bribe anyone...

The people you are preaching to have never lived in and experienced such a system so they can't even fathom the world of difference.
They live in ignorance. If only they knew better.

You statement is the bottom line and the basis for the perspective of those who have never been out of here before . Some people still see someone having N10m as having it all.

Hello, meet EgunMogaji2.

I'ma legitimate Nigerian immigrant from the USA that came back home.

Let me take your points.

Peace of mind: This is relative. I am more at peace here in Ibadan than I was in Los Angeles.

Security: Again this is relative. Couple of students were just murdered in a high school in the USA yesterday. About he 10th mass shooting in the US this year alone. Could Nigeria be safer? Of course, but even the USA could be safer. It boils down to individual preparation.

Fire Service: I've taken individual steps to secure myself. Once you identify the enemy then it's easier to defend against it.

Good roads: Not a problem for me. Are the roads horrible? Absolutely but again it's not a serious bother.

Stable water and electricity: Sank a borehole and have generators. Many of my friends in the USA are off grid. No pipe borne water, use borehole. No electricity, use solar and gens.

Safe food: Come on now. We need to have some individual responsibilities. Go to farms to buy produce now and go to arbatiors (sp) directly.

Clean air: definitely an issue in Nigeria but just slightly worse than then US. Do a read up on SMOG, read up about air quality in Houston.

Healthcare: There are private clinics here. Very good ones. Affordability? Well then.

Access to loans: What for? Do you think USA banks give loans just anyhow?

Bribe: Occurs overseas also but not 50 kobo own with police.

Never say never. There are a lot of us that are back, have been back and will be back.

Nigeria is a wonderful place to live in if you can structure yourself.

Edit: 1) The only thing I really miss here is unlimited internet data angry

2) I write based on my own direct experiences. It’s quite possible, and frankly expected, that your experiences are different from mine.

Please oh God never move to Houston! Only 1% of gunshots are reported. Everyone goes to illegal doctors because if you get shot it's you who go to prison, not the bad guy.

Nobody wondered why a video of a fat Asian chick in a ball gown throwing a chair at a gun didn't get viral. When it first happened, cops thought it was a publicity stunt.
So this happened last Christmas https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.chron.com/houston/amp/Man-shot-arrested-after-aggravated-robbery-of-13485680.php&ved=2ahUKEwj4jp_z3OPlAhUGDKwKHVuZA6YQFjAAegQICRAB&usg=AOvVaw3DWmbjbh5rm73IfBQsodmp&ampcf=1 That was us. We then got framed by our HOA , who just happened to use the same lawyer as the Houston Mayor, right before we were scheduled to testify. I have been telling everyone that the guy we shot that he is the Houston Mayor's cousin. We know the guy we shot (Kendrick Trayvon Skinner) is related to a shitload of cops, and both his family and Mayor Turner's family was in the same square miles for 6 generations. I know Turner is also related to a shitload of cops. Kendrick Trayvon Skinner is the grandson of Sylvester Turner's sister

I have a lot of evidence of what happened. My Facebook was taken down at law enforcement's bequest (Facebook told me it's because of sex, which is ridiculous, I am an Armenian Orthodox Christian) My YouTube channel is
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE4LUbGWCkg

I know we will definitely get sued, but it's better than getting Hillary Clintoned for sure. Cop's have been showing up at our house every day, even after we moved away from Houston.

Correct...that's why Nigeria is known as a shithole!

The Countries that do pay taxes you can see the differences in their infrastructures, Electricity, HealthCare, Schools, Roads, tourism...and the list goes on.

Very good advice. As a 50 year old , his options are limited . Thank you for talking about difficulties about living abroad . You also make a good point about people who live here illegal and unable to come home due to lack of money. For example in the US getting a good job as a 50 year old can be difficult, your expected to be settled into your career and job and should be planning for retirement. Being 50 and foreigner would be incredibly difficult.

USA would have been the best place for you to be as you can easily start all over again but you've been denied visa

I know someone who, same age range as you,
nothing much working for him in Nigeria, got US Visa, went to US, few years later, got legal, then sent for all his family to join him. He is much better off now

And what is he doing in the U.S?
