Nigeria is a jungle. It's tough for start up here in Nigeria. Even tougher if you don't have a skill. Any business that survives the very first 3 years in Nigeria and still flourish is worth investing more into. However, I can beat my chest and say, aside the harsh business climate in Nigeria, Majority of business failure in Nigeria is due to lack or poor MANAGEMENT. In the ehailing thread, one man in the monker of Dru23 will continue to be a hero for turning his business around and giving hope to other investors in the ehailing thread, All what he hammers on is management and maintenance period. By the way I still have my CHEAP SIENNA available down my sig 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Mine was aggregating and selling locally made shoes. I got a website, ran ads that ran into thousands of naira. Got my branded shoe boxes and nylons down. But the thing is MOST Nigerians will not buy locally made Nigerian shoes that costs more than N20k. Even N15k was difficult to sell too. The shoemakers were always adamant whenever we tell them to adjust their prices and that’s partly because they just make the shoes, put it inside a show glass in front of their shops and put it up on their WhatsApp statuses. I did most of the advertising; Facebook, Instagram, jiji. So it wasn’t their business how the prices of their shoes were affecting running my business. Another thing is trust. Someone will ask for price and ask me if I truly feel the shoes will last up to a year after paying N25k to buy. Eventually the business packed up. Branded shoe boxes and nylon was thrown away en masse. I think the lesson there is for local manufacturers to be weary of price and how they price their products. And let them forget about attributing luxury status to their products until they’ve actually blown. Even people at lekki sef are usually skeptical about buying expensive locally made products when the maker is still a nobody, no offense to hustlers reading. 34 Likes 1 Share |

U said ur mum even died....n it still affects ur health See, that's shows its a spiritual thing.. Also at the outset,u were able to make profit to afford a land.. Jones4190: Bros you could be the one sent to deliver me. I found a thread on Nairaland about bread distributorship and tried it out with very wonderful results. I make about 2k daily from selling the 50.00 type just in my locality alone. Now I need to expand and would like to do that with bikes. I project that I can make about 10k daily with two bikes. They only need to work like 4 hours per day. Can you arrange two functional bikes for me at 50k each? 14 Likes |

ecclize:bro i stopped taking those motivationals serious. They could be misleading. Yeah theyre beautiful on the eye but realistically one shouldnt apply them in life. Follow your heart and follow situations the way they come. Nothing like 5 things to do to become rich or 10 things successful people do blah blah 15 Likes 1 Share |
Re: What Lead To The Collapse Of Your First Business? by NGRsenate: 9:31am On Nov 16, 2019 |
hefelove: Even at that, it was still too expensive. One shoemaker will insist he wants 25k, nothing less and if we add our own percentage the price blows up. Let’s not forget delivery again, the best shoemaker i had was living somewhere after Ojo, 1k wouldn’t deliver from there to us and then to the buyer. We started with adding 20% and cut it down to a measly 1.8%. Another thing is the quality. There are very few small time shoe makers who actually make solid shoes, very few I promise. 1 Like |

Noel1: Please don't invest with wonder banks. There is no bank in Nigeria that pays 4.5% per month on ANY deposit/investment. It will be difficult, even, to get anything above 10-12% range per annum as of today. It is a deliberate policy of CBN to discourage savings but encourage people to put their money into active use. 15 Likes 1 Share |

Well, mine is not having enough patience but will you blame a 20-something year old who doesn't want to be a lazy pumpkin ? After i left my job in January and new jobs were not forthcoming after two interviews, i decided to embark on ehailing (Uber & taxify). I have read rave reviews about Toyota corolla, Camry, Hyundai Elantra and Honda Civic cars for the business because they tend to withstand abuse and can wiggle their way for long on our dreadful roads but i couldn't afford any of those cars, the least being 2003 Honda Civic cost 1.3m. I brooded about the cost for a while and the people i met told me not to buy Nigerian used vehicles unless the owner is selling it off to upgrade, if not i might fall into depression visiting mechanics. There was no way i could raise 1.3m, the savings i had was 400k and my Aunt gave me a loan of 600k to-be paid back (15k weekly) when i start the hustle. After going back and forth with no headway, she contacted her pastor who introduced the younger brother (a car dealer) and narrated my ordeal . He said i can't get a 2002 Tokunbo car for less than 1.2m and the Nigerian used he sells are way expensive than what i was looking for. Long story short, he got me a Tokunbo 2001 Ford with a sound engine and a very eye catching leather interior but the front shock absorber was bad and the AC wasn't working when they brought it. I have seen hell using that car for the past 3 months, need i say, i have spent a whooping 200k to fix (2 oxygen sensors, radiator hose, shock absorber, brake pads, AC compressor, evaporator and blower ,serviced transmission engine ,fuel pump and other minor repairs i cannot account for). At a point i was looking for buyer, still looking for it though because i am scared of what might happen on the road but when its in good shape, its wonderful to drive, the performance , speed and handling is superb couple with the attractive interior but it is not the conventional Uber car which i had premonition of before accepting to use it but i thought i was smart enough not to put it on the road more than 7 hours 5 days a week. This is my story! 25 Likes |

hefelove: Did all that. Lol even sponsored a fashion show back then in school with locally made sandals for ladies. Use yourself as an example. Let’s say i come to meet you with shoes, locally made and i tell you it costs 28k. Even if you have the money, will you just buy it? Tell me in detail what will go through your mind? 6 Likes 1 Share |
