I don't know why, but I'm just seeing this post. Nice one. Yes we can and dats me speaking for myself on dat. Indeed, standards can only come from collaboration bcuz even if u know all d sections of Animation, ull still need time to express urself. That's one thing I'm doing currently with construction and even if there are people doing it already, I hope to achieve mine differently. Going back to Animation will be by way of skits and shot movies for me. And I still have rendering resolutions to contend with. For now.
And now dat U've mentioned it, abeg borrow me dat your rat wey u been model dat time. It's in sights for camera matching.

Do u want it in a rigged pose?

If possible, yes thank u. Let's see how it goes.

Where is everybody? I mean the guys that keep 3D spinning. No 3D posts to interest somebody again.
Anyways, I'm back again with another house model. still on my bugalos and would be switching gears to animation once again. And this time, it's for the purpose of entertainment. Animation, live footage, camera matching blablabla, that kinda stuff.
So sit down and relax as I take you through d journey of CG movie making.

Ok, so I'm done with my mouse model. it's cartoony and dats what I'll be using for my next project. I've gone through alot learning all over again like a baby. It's painful. But ... it's worth it. After the last ise oluwa video, I sat down and looked at the vid again because all of a sudden, it didn't appeal to me anymore. I've been trying to fix it, diagnose after diagnose but I couldn't figure what d problem was. Until now.
Anyways, typical me, I've moved on to something new and this time, I hope to hit my mark exactly on it's Target. Now and for once... I really, truly, absolutely understand what "Animating" is all about. And it begins with the sound.
Will post pictures of the rat model later
dang, I hate modelling.

Almost done with this rat model but something is off. the legs don't look like rat's. Yep, I know and will try correcting dat. Right now, I'm on morphs and will move back to d body when morph is done. Then rigging and skinning.
My Laptop is slowing down on battery making it really difficult to do anything without AC power or the generator. This one is a new, never before seen development and it's really pissing me off. Although after switching to windows 7, o realized dat the batteries need replacement. Can dis be d problem? Anyone with solutions to dis pc problem, abeg drop recommendation before I vex break d laptop head.

Well, thanx for d advice but I've sorted it out and have seen that it can really pull the project at hand through. So no breaking of anything. For now. But I did format it though. And since then, everything has been voila.

Why are u criticizing the render? The primary thing is achieving African hair, render is secondary. Anyways, nice job. Good model, nice texture.

On this one, build up a rate and charge the guy. Rates will generally depend on your skillset and the difficulties in and around the job on an average. So cook up something u r comfortable with and charge. Not something that u think will make him do d job. A lot of dis clients r looking for a 40k video. 50k tops. And dats a 3minute video. Even if na 30secs nko?
Charging is generally, something dats way ur while. There's is no basic universal rule to charging. But I know dat if u r gud at wat u do, dat won't be an issue.
Re: My Animation Reidvolution by reidkrugger(m): 6:32am On Nov 20, 2019
Alright, so I'm here. Again. On this project, the m..ost difficult thing I've had to encounter till date is d modelling of d rat. The face first, then it's saggy body. I initially separated it's legs from the thighs and wen I look at it again, I'm like, there's something off about dis rat. Of course. Rats have a saggy body almost hidding their thighs. Once I corrected that, I went straight to d morph targets and now, I'm CATTING him up.
Animating this fella, is a Yes Yes. But I intend mixing it up with live footage. Camera Matching. I am enthusiastic about Animating because I've come to discover alot of things that I never knew in the past. Also, I have never camera matched but have read and watched videos of it, so this is a first for me. Animating and Camera match will be done in 3dsmax16. After which I'll be going to maybe Premier or AE to composite.
So dats d hatch but for now, lemme proceed to rig d rat up.

I fell sick after loosing my close to a month with no sleep work. That was supposed to be d job dat would say "Yay, finally, you are here brov. Congratulations". But it wasn't meant to be.
Well, I took three days of doing nothing but growing and wallowing in my anger.
Bounced back at about the third and now, I have a model I'm working on. This time, it's standing and I've inched closer to modelling better. Anyways before d previous app started weirding out, I performed camera matching and it wasn't bad at all. So dats you help in a way.
I hope to finish d modelling today and start with d morphers then rig d whole thing and animate. I've been sick but slowly getting better. When I come back a 100... I'll finish up nicely. Hopefully.

Very true and I don't blame anybody. 3D here is tough, owing to a lot of challenges. With the way the economy is going, it would be suicidal to think about learning 3D especially as it takes years to master. So I feel their pain but I did not think they love it well enough to last d distance.
I've had to quit two jobs, the other was paying a 100 which is d far minimum of the two to pursue this course. But I'm looking at d "Bigger Picture" here. There is money in 3D if u know what you are doing.
As for me, I never planned to be a local champion and even though the ones I eye are way ahead of me, I still keep them in my sights and try to mumu myself by seeing me as a competitor. Well guess what, it's working. For me, it's a matter of time. As for those doing those fone animation, I say "good luck" to u all.
If you are a desciple or a practitioner, keep the faith and keep the work going.
Naijabazzar, I greet u my broda.

Hmmnnnn, well I am still here. Tho, my category is silent observer I guess. Registered on nairaland in 2013 just because of that popular blender thread that is more or less dead now.

Your observations are right tho, 3D animation in Nigeria is technical suicide, you are virtually on your own, no body will support you or believe in what you are doing and most times we are stuck with low performing and overheating PCs.

The little support I get these days is because I do some freelancing with the 3D skill. The support is only moral and oral, my PC is gradually becoming a potato and if I don't replace it soon, its dead end.

Animation is what I love and believe it will have its big break in Nigeria within the coming decade, but how do you explain this to family, GF, and friends when they don't even understand what I do and I have to start introducing myself as a "graphics designer", even had to learn the common graphics design people do just to "fit in".

Completed service this year and the pressure to "get a regular job" is literally killing me. I know deep down if I don't pursue a career in 3D animation I will never find happiness in any other industry... But how do you explain passion over money to your aging parents who have invested so much in your "education".

Honestly, sometimes I think and just cry myself to bed on some frustrating days..... Nobody seems to understand or believe in what I am trying to do.

It feels so lonely in this world we have chosen and I sincerely wish I was born in a better place and time.

I couldn't have said it better. U just explained what I went Tru some years ago. Alot of people will call u stupid, idiot or the popular both. You will have close to nada dangling in your pockets and your social life will be close to dat of a monk with one ritual everyday. Wake, learn 3D, sleep, and on repeat in an endless loop. But dats if u wanna get very good tho. Then 3D has to come first. The bad thing about it is that, you can't combine it with another job. There won't be concentration and one of em has to go But on the long run, 3D offers security and gives u a living plus reason to live. It's cumbersome. It won't come quietly. But it can take care of you if you are dat gud. This is something I've always known. 3D don't care about any Government policies. Once you are able to master it, the rest is history.

The Combo part is what led me to quitting those jobs. I couldn't handle the pressure and if I'd forced myself, I'd be dead by now or most likely mentally. The most pressure is I've past my prime for playing with toys like 3D. But I just couldn't let go bcuz this is what I was born for. This is what I was born to do and to be. An entertainer and a problem solver. Imagine been as good as the guys in Pixar or Disney or any of these other Big Studios. Yeah, a tall dream many would say but it's achievable.
The best reason anyone should go into 3D right now is because there is literally no competition. And it will be so in Nigeria for a very long time. So, you give to get. As for those that are assumed left, for the ones that have gone far, their case is simple. At that stage, 3D doesn't really leave you. I go back from time to time to visit construction because over their I'm solid. So, I think that's how it is with these other guys. Plus, you think it's funny coming here and be outshined by other artists? Some over here are built to trash talk to, which is not helping.
Whichever formula you can apply to really get good at 3D, I'll advise you apply. Things are going to start moving rapidly soon and you wouldn't want to be at the bottom of the stairs when dat happens.

One other obstacle I have seen in Nigeria is lack of collaboration, giving 3D a foot to stand in this country will come from collaboration between individual artists like you and I and even those small studios springing up in lagos.

A collaboration, something very hard to get people to do if you don't have money to motivate them ; cheesy
