I think you guys are not understanding nitigriti

What he's saying is you can't build a career from uber. Uber should be an hustle to make ends meet, and then move on..

The guy you people are quoting had a job before he joined uber. If he wants to apply for another job, can he put uber driving on his cv?

I'm not looking for another job but if ever I would go job hunting again, my Uber hustle will be right there in my CV. It's an experience that has been well worth it.

No bro... You're the one not understanding it. I followed the comment and the suggestion made by Tyche on app development which was open for discussion till Niti had to divert it. Yes he drove and made money of course just like anyone of us, because he can't put it on his CV doesn't mean "driving taxi up and down" like he said is a detestable thing.

Introduce what you've got to offer to the APP development and building then let's focus not telling me people makes x and x money which others would considered Tithe from their own perspective.

Make we focus on what's on ground baba

Sir it depends on the job
What if it is a driving related job?
How many people do u think earn a better pay more than the man driving president in this country? I know a senator's driver who built several houses in my home town and connected many people to good jobs in abuja through d senator.
If such person lacks good driving experience u think he will get d job?
There are certain job using ehailing driving as reference becomes handy.
I hate the fact that we tend to look down on certain profession in this part of the world and it is greatly responsible for our level of development today.

It's you bro, I can't argue that.

But you have a job, Abi? Its easy for you to type this much because whether you drive or you no drive, money dey.

What about drivers on rentals that have other dreams? Everyone driving on uber did not plan to "drive on uber". Some had to go on rentals to survive. Some are graduates with so much potential, so much energy for exploits that are driving. Those are the people nitigriti and Tyche are talking to.

I don't look down on this hustle. I Don do am. But I had somewhere I need to be. And this hustle didn't give me that time. That's why I stepped down.

Do you understand his point now?

Not all of every man's hustle is included in the CV & it doesn't invalidate such hustle.

After spending close to 30k for my coro since on Monday, I bought engine seats, hub, serviced the engine, and some other stuffs.

Na so I enter road start work today. First 4 trips all card trips (3500naira) I was like which kind work be this today. About 6:30pm I got a request to surulere from Lekki phase 1. Picked up the rider and we spent about 3hrs in traffic to get to her destination.

Na so I swipe make I see how much be the fare, Ladies a d gentlemen boys and girls na so I see ZERO naira.
Local man was gobsmacked and perplexed. I nearly hit my phone for ground.

Rider carry baby and the baby was just crying, I told her to go that I would sort it out with Uber.
Na so I closed for the day, sent a mail to them and even on Twitter. I'm waiting to hear from them Local man is home exasperated.

This work don cast!

Some riders no get joy o. I don't know if it was a mistake or not. My 5.0 rating just turned to 4.67. I just weak.

This e hailing is interesting. You get to meet various characters. Picked up one lady. After about 2 minutes into the journey she was like oga, this your AC be like e no dey work o. She sat at the back. I just directed the side vent to the back and increased the AC speed. I had just bought a box of tissue the previous evening. Aunty had to ask me to pass the box to her cos I kept it on the dashboard. For my mind, I was laughing. Shebi na you Wan stay freezer.

@Izzuo and Niti, let me assume you've try to squash the matter, tough you are still shaking your head. have u try to figure out how Godwin Okeke, Cosmos Maduka & other transporters stated dia journey? We keep saying means to end! Means to end!! Yes I agree to some point, but focus and discipline is d key here, a footballer that lack discipline will end up begging for food as Udeze, Taribo & co what happened to them and how they are fairing or is football not a suitable career again? We need to get off dis bench, uber, bolt can fold, but transportation will remain forever till d body can't function driving for long again. If you feel like improving as a soul, just do that at bay and let other people live... We all cant b a writer, not even all scammers suicide scamming, for every wizkid wanna be, dia are thousand wasting in oblivion today. I've grown pass riders or anyone trying to put the job down, I hear d complain of people every other day, I see how people struggle to get by, check the guy in traffic with heavy load on his head forcing himself on motorist to buy his goods and a driver may go home with 5/10k net profit in a day... All I see here is someone not appricating what put food on his table and it is an unhealthy way to live life from the end view while neglecting the flow of journey.

NB: I hope u know d numbers of cooperate buddy that r selling dia valuable and relocate dia family oversea. That may b d end point for most ppl here wit d way dis country is going.

Thank you so much.
There's a book I'm reading — It talks about the way Billionaires think. An example is that they think in the long term. They ask, where is this commitment [business] taking me to in 5 years?10 years?
If it doesn't make sense in the long term, they don't do it in the short term.

Guys, being an e-hailing driver is not a job. No one builds a career as an e-hailing driver. I did it for 2 years, but I can't place it in my CV. See e-hailing as a means to an end, not as an end in itself.

You guys can rise above the level where you will start worrying about Ocar or Uber or Bolt.

The fact that it didn’t work for you doesn’t mean it’s not working for other people here.

This statement just shows you also looked down on the hustle and didn’t put your full mind to it hence you couldn’t overcome it and make it work.

I’m not taking sides but there are levels to everything. Why can’t the experience be put in the CV? You did it for 2 years and couldn’t add it because it’s not professional ba? I’m sure it was more because you were ashamed than professional. It’s a very valuable experience that exposes you and gauges you on

- Integrity
- Customer Service
- Money Management
- Time Management
- Patience
- Leadership
- Social
- Networking

And so many more. You have to stop being myopic. You want to be the rider using the service because you see it as a prestige instead of a business.

Dude drop your shoulders, sit down and be humble.

Guy, as a matter of fact, there are CEOs that do Uber outside of Nigeria. People do it for different reasons regardless of their status. You know what? I have a job and do Uber because my job gives me so much time that has been begging to be utilised. I found a way out of boredom doing this and it also puts good money in my pocket. My salary where I work has never been touched for over a year now. By the grace of God, my house would have been completed by next year because my uber hustle is helping save big bucks. So, when you say rise above the level where I will stop worrying about uber", I just don't understand what you mean. Uber makes things happen for me, therefore I get worried when that part of me is being threatened. You got a job and quit uber, some have better jobs and still do uber. That's the difference.

Inferiority complex is having a field day with the guy. Just ignore.

People have built careers from far less. Uber can be anyone’s full time job. People take care of their households from driving.

People look at things differently. You need to look for ways to solve problems not be the problem.

So you are the person that will teach me to be humble?

When you've bagged pure water in a factory (120 bags an hour), sold gala in traffic, sold apples in traffic, worked as a Danfo bus conductor ... all as a graduate, come back here and teach me to be humble.

And yes, all of the above were my hustles in the past. I have no chips on my shoulders.

Oh wow so you’ve been broken. I really feel for you bro. But it seems your experience didn’t shape you because you obviously failed to learn the lessons from your ‘hardship’.

I also won’t be wrong if I assume you’re not finding fulfillment at your present job but just have to make do because you can’t go back to driving ‘taxi’.

You need to put your head straight and not give a Bleep! That someone is writing books or descriptions and makes $1k doesn’t mean you’ll also make it. Stop the herd mentality and find something for yourself.

Just an advice.

You get it wrong. There's no hardship in anything I went through. Those were conscious decisions I took in my early 20s because I wanted to be a man. I did all of those still living in my parents' house. My mates were carrying babes up and down and forming big boys in the estate. I could have done the same, my parents had cars I was driving; but I had a different mindset. Still have.

For instance, my mum told me to come collect her car and use it for Uber when she learnt I was renting a car 35,000 a week to do e-hailing. I told her no. I still did my rentals. That's the kind of person I am.

Do you get it now?
