I may not have the latest data but Kenya was Africa's largest investor in terms of project numbers in 2016 as per the report by Earnest & Young. Whereas we beat South Africa in the number of projects, they beat us in the project values. They invested 2 billion dollars while we invested a billion dollars in other African countries. I think we are up there amongst biggest Africa to Africa FDI sources/intra-Africa FDI sources. Our companis are expanding and investing in other African markets.

https://www.businessdailyafrica.com/markets/Kenya-overtakes-SA-as-biggest-investor-in-African-countries/539552-3320280-mioin/index.html

In fact for east Africa we have been their Africa largest source of FDI for like 30yrs.Congo and Ethiopia are going to be new play ground.Equity the last two years have invested 150M dollars to acquire two banks in Congo..ProCredit and BCDC.should easily make Equity the 2nd biggest DRC bank if not the biggest and it's very profitable.Kenya expansion is normally well thought. If Ethiopia open up its banking, insurance and telcoms/tech sector...this will be huge because combined DRC and Ethiopia is like Nigeria.Understanding both markets will gives us headway in central Africa and horn of Africa.Maybe another decade we can get in full force to West Africa when they would have made it easy to do business and thrive..now it's a jungle.

South African companies are reinvesting more into their investments. Kenya invest in many small projects, SA invest large money into projects.

2B dollars is really small for South Africa whose companies have the balance sheet to take on bigger risks but considering what Nigerians did to MTN & TZ to Barrick Gold there is big risk in investing in Africa.South African tended to recklessly enter a market but they are learning..in Kenya they are doing more M&A( mergers & acquisition) than coming pap with a brand nobody has ever heard.Anyway ShopRite & France Carrefour finally got into Kenya after the death of Nakumatt and Old Mutual acquired more insurance firms plus ABSA Barclays deal & that pretty much the action South Africa had in Kenya.Tiger got burnt by Haco industries cooked books and they dropped it back to it's former owners. With domestic economy in trouble down south, companies should be expanding to rest of Africa..so that really bad sign for South Africa.

It all has to do with the financial muscles of the companies of the two countries.

South african companies are reinvesting more into south african economy, they being patriotic to boost the local economy with $21billion being pledged last week alone.

In Kenya it usually the opposite..when there is trouble domestically..they expand regionally to tap into growing economies. I am not sure about business being patriotic..how does altruism work with money.Maybe ANC can commit to ending their unholy alliance with trade unions...the real albastross to your economic fortunes

South africa has lot of potential thats y they reinvest, the is lot of returns from reinvesting however it is very difficult for companies from africa to tap the south african market as it way advanced and sophisticated.

Ghana exports already have it destination
We dont want to put ourselves in a situation whereby the tyranny oF USA will have a greater impact on our economy
Mkenya2019:
One question at a time besides I think we ready covered this in last 5000 pages with Nigeria.I see you're desperately trying to divert attention from Ghana.Remove minerals and oil..what do you export..cocoa beans? You want to compare yourself with Kenya that has solid macro economics, prudent financial management including debt management and is winning the war against poverty when she is 89 % semi arid and has no minerals. That rich coming from aid dependant natural resource IMF colony whose citizens are immigrating enmasse.Kenya tea production has risen to be global leader on the back of small holder farmers with our Kenya Tea Dev Agency paying nearly a billion dollars annually to farmers. Mombasa tea auction is world biggest with tea from all over Africa sold there. The same is replicated in horticulture where Kenya vegetables dominate supermarket shelves of Europe and Middle East.We lead Africa in export of apparels & textiles to the US.We lead Africa in intra-africa trade. We are one of Africa biggest source of foregn investment outside South Africa with our companies spread all over SSA. We have 20k road network in a country where 2/3 of it is hardly populated and existing road network is good enough. In the last 15 yrs our economy has grown from 15b to 100b and nothing suggest that growth rate is about to stop..so another 15yrs our economy will most likely be worth 600B.. certainly in 3-4 yrs we will overtake Morocco to sit just below Algeria. We have one of Africa most educated professional force and MNC are choosing Nairobi over Joburg for that reason as their Africa HQ or entry point. We are nailing demographics..pop growth rate now 2.1% from 2.9% 10yrs ago..and are just about 5yrs from entering a demographic transition of more adults than kids that will further fuel our economic growth. Our cities certainly look way better than any of your shanties including Accra. Surely it is very rich for an IMF colony like Ghana that has tried to rebase itself from one Africa poorest country to where it is now but has not managed to handle hyperinflation and currency deprication..a country that depends on AID and is one year from another economic meltdown.Your best highway is a gift from George bush for being the whims. Our advice..learn from Kenya, diversity your economy, formalize your economy and join the modern world. You live just across the US and you cannot take advantage of AGOA that allow duty free quota free imports of 600 items from Africa? Your big idea is to bring back the messed up African Americans to Ghana? How can they help Ghana when they are the dregs in their countries? The year of return for the scum of earth back to motherland indeed

Run away ? Again we are here to have conversation - not for you to bombard me with half-thought half-baked questions - when you have hardly done any research or understood the concepts.

Let me answer you the first one and ask you one question related to it. Then we move to the next one.

Quiz 1) Urbanization.

Kenya is EXACTLY where it's supposed to be urbanization wise. Urbanization is great - it should lead to greater economic development.Ghana & her big brother Nigeria claims to be 50% urbanized - which is all good except when I google ' GHANA GDP per Capita' and ' Kenya GDP per Capita' I don't see Ghana nearly twice urbanized population kicking the economic ars.e..

Ghana - 1,641.49 USD (2017)
Kenya - 1,507.81 USD (2017)

I think as of 2019 - Kenya is around 2,000 and Ghana is slightly ahead - maybe 2,200. Even if we look at PPP - not much difference.

Now the question for you. Why is that despite Nigeria & Ghana being so urbanized, poverty is that rampant? Where are the fruits of that urbanization? Why do you urban centers look really BAD?

I can tell you for free - when Kenya reaches 50% urbanization ( we are urbanizing at 4% annually) - somewhere after 2030 - we will look like South Africa or Namibia - proper middle class countries.

You and Sammy the dreamer (for Nigeria curious case) can answer us now...and we can move to the next question.

the fruit of Ghana urbanization is the fact that
we've moved 60% 0f our poor people out of farming to feed themselves
into the service sector and farming on a large scale.

thereby making them middle class citizens

its not bad to dream.
By the time you reach 50% urbanization

there wont be any poor people in Ghana

Except the main thrust of our argument is that it's doesn't look ahead.. Accra failed the picture test...actually the COMMON SENSE test....Nigeria once claimed to have 500B dollar economy and we now know without any doubts that it world poverty capital.
