Orji Kalu: Judgement Unfair, We'll Meet To Take A Position - Abia APC by State001: 8:34am On Dec 06, 2019
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to Thursday’s ‘ill-advised conviction‘ of former Governor of Abia and Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, by a Lagos State High Court.

Chairman of the APC in Abia, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, said in an interview with journalists that he was disappointed and angry with the “arranged court judgment”, Igbere TV reports.

Nwankpa, who was a member of the Abia State House of Assembly when Sen. Kalu was governor, said that the judgment was not fair.

“The party will meet to take a position on the judgment but as an individual, I am very saddened by the judgment.

“I am not convinced that judgment was given,” he said, adding that the court’s verdict sustained his doubts about the integrity and objectivity of the nation’s judiciary.

Chief Nwankpa said that he never had the confidence that Sen. Kalu would get judgment, “considering the utterances of the judge.”

“I’m highly convinced that something went wrong. The judgment is not fair,” he insisted.

On his part, Maduka Okoro, the South-East Media Aide to Kalu, told newsmen that Sen. Kalu would appeal the judgment “to allow other judges and a higher court take another look at the case.”

Okoro said that Kalu was not bothered by the judgment but considered it as one of the travails that every leader must experience “before becoming what God wants him to be.”

He expressed optimism that the judgment would be reversed by a higher court, adding that Sen. Kalu would be acquitted at last.

He said that as governor, Sen. Orji Kalu administered Abia transparently and never defrauded the state.

Kalu was Abia governor from 1999 to 2007 and won election to the Senate in the 2019 election under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Abia APC state chairman who said this, is very stupid.

This Governor stole your state dry, a whole N7 billion.

7 Billion in 2005 is like 15Billion naira today, due to inflation.

And yet you are saddened over the conviction and want to rally for his release.

And this man and others, are the reasons for infrastructural deficit in Abia state. Yet you are rallying for him.

The entire Igbo states spit on Abia politicians and her people for allowing a rot fester for over 20 years since 1999.

Tinubu did worse as governor but still walking about a free man .

Compare Tinubu's investments scattered all over Lagos and other parts of the States and tell me between OUK and Tinubu , who is the bigger thief.

In so much that the APC-infested FG and its EFCC/ICPC lapdogs have been fighting a lopsided/selective anti-corruption war, the conviction of Orji Uzor Kalu is a welcome development.

It's these same EFCC that have given the silliest excuses why Oshiomole, Tinubu, Amaechi, Gandollar, Akpabio, Danjuma Goje, Musiliu Obanikoro, Abba Kyari, Mikanti Baru, Lawal Babachir etc cant be prosecuted. The poster above have added the koko.

I don't care about Tinubu. Yoruba people can glorify robbery and corruption and exalt their politicians who do it.

Igbo people do not condone corruption because the wealth belongs to the masses.

We add too much emotions and feelings in judgement in this part of the world.

We complain bitterly about Lawlessness and Injustice, but once our brother is been convicted for a crime they committed,

We become biased in judgement due to over emotions. sad

Nigeria & Nigerians have a long way to go.

Most South-Easterners living in South West today came in the last 10 years or so and have not taken time to understand Yorubas. They are fond of always citing BAT.

If they care to know, BAT, is only smart to develop a party structure that he has managed to dominate. If he is that accepted among Yorubas, Makinde or Akeredolu will not be governors today. And if you care to know, PDP is very weak in Lagos because they never have strong credible candidates. Agbaje, knowing he could not garner enough votes from his kinsmen, started appealing to Easterners in Lagos. The hatred for BAT just grew among the easterners because SW people resisted that move and in defeat the only thing left is for them to label Yorubas as BAT slaves! Something that is far from the truth, and that even BAT knows quite well. South Easterners do not realize that APC has so many members in Lagos who are party faithfuls, and they are strong enough to win elections, even if non-party members refuse to vote!

Stop attaching everything Yoruba to BAT! Anyone doing that is ever ignorant of Yoruba culture, their strengths and failings.

Is Chief Bode George not a notable Yoruba man? When he was sentenced was there any protest anywhere?

Why they always bring BAT into any argument beggars belief! I think some people thought they could take over Lagos through the back door and they are yet to wake up from the defeat that befell them.

Why would a state arm of a party be condemning the Judiciary just because one person is being questioned?

Is he guilty of what he is accused of?

And by the way, if BAT and the people he has sponsored did not develop Lagos, will there be the kind of influx you have into the city today? Call him any name you want, the man is smart enough to fight for his kinsmen and also to promote progressive and developmental policies that even other states are now struggling to copy. For that alone, he will continue to get audience when he speaks. Any other governor, or past governor who has that push for the development of his state will get similar audience. Can you mention their names if there are such governors? If you cant, why always bring BAT into any argument?

This story is about Abia, so people should speak about ABia.

It is only in Nigeria where you catch and sentence a thief, and some people will justify the release of that thief by pointing at an even bigger thief that hasn't been caught or arrested or convicted.

As a people, we have to ask ourselves if bad is bad, and if we are after the complete eradication of corruption for what it really is - A bad vice and a social menance.

OR

We have to ask ourselves if we want to be bigots and continue to render support to thieves that have stolen from us. Even if most of the time, some tend to defend these people not because they are direct beneficiaries of their stealing, but because they are blinded by hate, bigotry, tribalism and misguided nepotism.

What is rather intriguing is that despite our "supposed" education and enlightenment as a people, the division is only cutting deeper and deeper into our minds.

Nairaland as a national forum, is sadly not doing enough to fight tribalism and bigotry. This menance is spreading and the media is sadly enthralling it.
