If sincerely first class is your goal, you won't have this CGPA. Anyways, your chances are really slim, try to settle for a strong second class upper. In addition, why would you be in Futa, microbiology and your first year result is 2.80, did you come in as a Jambite or Predegree?

Guy you can have first class , take this to the bank . But you must make sure you have nothing less than a 4.8 GPA in all your semesters .

During IT you can hit 5 dot. It's very easy to achieve for IT students .


But make sure you don't fall below 4.8 per semester hence fòrth and you will be there bro .

It's possible but unlikely depending on how determined you are and if luck is on your side.

Four a four year course, you need these along the years: (3.0+5.0+5.0+5.0)/4.=4.5

Four a five year course, you need these along the years: (2.8+5.0+5.0+5.0+5.0)/5.=4.56

When I was in Uni for my undergraduate, mine was like this: (3.9+4.32+5.0+5.0)/4.=4.56

I doubt this, you can only get that 4.56 using this your calculation now, if your total credit unit all the semesters were the same. In most schools, 100 level always have the highest total credit unit, hence if you have a faulty foundation, you won't still make a good Gp cos the maximum points you'll earn reduces.

Yoo...ceteris paribus, you can still make first class.

Assuming you took and will be taking an average of 18 unit courses per semester up until the 10th semester, let's do some math;

Total number of units for 10 semesters will be 180 units

Now that you have 2.8gpa in ur 1st semester, we assume that you had 50 out of a possible 90 points
(50/18 = 2.777~ 2.

Now, for the remaining 9 semesters, a 5.0 gp in each semester till graduation will mean a total of (90 * 9 = 810 points) **remember straight As from ur 2nd semester to the last (10th) semester**

Summing it up, total points will become (810 + 50 = 860 points) and Total credit units will be (18*10 = 180)

Final Cgpa, given the above conditions will be (860/180 = 4.777 ~ 4.78). Meaning you don't necessarily have to make 5.0 in the remaining semesters to make a first class (4.5+), you can still afford a couple Bs and Cs.

**Tip**

1. => try avoiding >2 unit courses if you can (usually in electives) , better to have a B in a 2 unit than a B in a 3 or 4 unit course.

2. => As much as possible, try to to do more units (20, 21 units per semester) and study very well for it, doing more units has a way of absorbing poor grades, increasing overall CGPA if you do excellently well in them.....it can also bite you really if u mess up in them.

While in school i did more units whenever i had the opportunity, an average of 20 units per semester


So these answers your question, YESS, it's still very much possible to make a first class BUT with stellar performance throughout your remaining semesters....

Target first class still. Realistically, you wont make it but it means that the least you will get is a 2.1.
Mathematically, it is still possible to make a First Class. However, 2.80 is a pretty low CGPA. It means that you had some issues which, if unsolved, may persist through out your stay in school. So realistically, it is unlikely you will end up with a 1st. Still try.

So take up the challenge and still target a 1st Class.
Ways to target a first class:

1. Put away all kinds of distractions: Take a "NO" stand to boyfriends/girlfriends/ zero social media usage/ limit the time you spend on your phone, chatting with friends etc. Again, STAY AWAY FROM BOYFRIENDS/GIRLFRIENDS.
2. Focus, work hard, study, read, research. Your walk henceforth should be triangulated: Home to School/Library to Church/Mosque.
3. Never, ever neglect God. Never ever.
4. Have a humble approach to life. To friends, colleagues, lecturers, etc.
5. Maintain a positive mindset regardless of issues and the rumours around. Stay positive.

I made a 1st Class (Mechanical and Production Engineering) so this is from my experience. All the very best.

Since its first semester 100level you can.
You just have to hit 4.80GPAs atleast continuously. Afterall you are aiming First Class not Best Graduating Student. So you should end up around 4.5 something.

Worst case scenario you get a 4.4 something. That alongside other side skills aside MCB, volunteering works and other leadership skills among others can give you a good international scholarship if that is what you wish for (P.S, these are needed even if you have a first class to get a scholarship).

Nowadays the good and well packaged CV and not the the boring dy/dx CV gives the scholarship.

First class is still possible for you. First make up your mind. Find what point you will make to get first class. Then give yourself at least 10 hours of studying everyday without stop and watch how your result will keep improving.

I get your point, CGPA is a bit lesser but normally of the order of 10^(-2) if different weighing credit units are taken into account. Moreover the credit units are either 2 or 3. So averagely, that very simple illustration should be fine considering rounding off errors (2.8 can also be 2.8345667).

Yes it's possible but difficult, you will need to make a 4.75 GPA every semester for the remaining 7 semesters.
