yes i know the capacity of the terminal.

there are 9 ship to shore gantries at terminal 3

only the dry and wet bulk carrier terminal is bigger than anything in kenya.

The best port in West Africa should be in Ivory Coast. What you have posted doesn't even come close to Mombasa Port which is one of Africa's largest.

Meanwhile this just happened today...Nigeria is revitalising 4 more abadoned port and this one is among them... This is apart from the new port projects like bakassi and ibom deepseaport which cost about $2.6bn each(it is expected to be the largest the continent has ever witnessed..)

Efforts to increase ship traffic at the Eastern ports has received a boost with the successful handling of a containership measuring 265 metres in length overall by the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT) at the Onne Port Complex, Rivers State.

The ship, named JPO Volans, is the first gearless vessel and the largest containership ever to visit a seaport outside the Lagos area.

The Managing Director of WACT, Mr. Aamir Mirza, said the German vessel brought containers to the Onne Port from the Far East. He said it took only 2.75 days to turnaround the vessel.

“This is another major achievement for Onne Port and another testament to our commitment to set new standards and serve our customers better,” Mirza said.

He said WACT was able to handle this gearless vessel by deploying its newly commissioned Mobile Harbor Cranes.

“The key achievement here is our ability to handle larger, gearless, mainline vessels that were considered only suitable for terminals in Lagos. By handling these vessels, we have not only proven to the world that Eastern Nigerian ports are equally capable of handling these large ships but have also improved the profile of Onne port globally. I would like to particularly thank NPA, under the leadership of Madam Hadiza, Port Manager Onne, Onne Harbour Master and Pilots for their support in making this happen.

“With our major investment plans in the pipeline, this will go a long way in improving our capabilities and highlighting same to all our shipping line and landside customers,” the WACT Managing Director said.

In September, WACT acquired two Mobile Harbor Cranes worth $10 million (N3.6 billion) to boost operation at the terminal. The terminal operator also acquired 10 specialized terminal trucks and two new reach stackers to complement existing cargo handling equipment, to increase the turnaround time of vessels at the port.

The new cranes and other investments effectively brought WACT at par with its peers in Lagos ports in terms of equipment availability and operational efficiency.

“Our vision is to make WACT the best performing container terminal in West Africa. We believe we are on course to realizing this vision in record time with the support of relevant authorities and stakeholders,” Aamir said.

WACT, which is the first greenfield container terminal built in Nigeria under public-private partnership, started commercial operations in 2007 and has become the most efficient Nigerian gateway to markets outside the Lagos area. It has an annual container throughput capacity of 314,000 TEUs, with 375 reefer plugs and a draft of 10.5 meters alongside.

The bakassi deep seaport will be the largest of them all and will possibly handle trade for landlocked countries like Niger and Chad, even some parts of Cameroon are willing to import and export goods through the bakassi port

Than the ibom deep sea port is looking for approval this will be the main oil and gas export area seeing as akwa ibom is one of the largest producers as such it will be wonderful

And with all the other projects that are coming with the 30 billion dollar loan Nigeria is sure to become an even better country

With 500m dollar investments in education, 5 billion dollar investment in electricity, 8 billion dollar investment in railways, 1.2 billion dollars investments on roads, 800m dollar investment in technology, 150 million dollar investments on minerals(gold, iron, nickel etc) a 450 million dollar investment on agriculture and a 500m dollar investment into water

Just so you know these are estimates frome aht I read and with all kf these there is still 7 billion dollars left over which will be split between army and Healthcare

For the police they will employ 100 000 more of them, than the army will get 2 submarines and about 30 patrol ships, as well as 50 fighter jets and helicopters

For Healthcare they will be 2-5 mega hospitals per state and at least 500 clinics per state as well excluding really small ones like Lagos and ekiti where you will only need 200-300 anyway that is what the Nigerian government will be doing for the rest of their tenure and I am extremely excited about all these projects

As much as I like the sound of that loan I will still say I am bit skeptical...if they know that won't disbursed every dime of that loan into every sector-al Projects they've drafted out I will say they are better off tucking their sticky fingers back into their pocket...

The questioner always dictates whether a question is rhetorical.....

Where the hell did you even learn English that you can't fathom the difference between a rhetorical question and a non rhetorical question?
Context and manner in which the question is asked makes a listener recognize if a question is rhetorical or not.
I don't blame you. I blame your English teacher. grin

Ebonyians To Enjoy Regular Water Supply By January 2020” – Gov. Umahi

Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State has assured the residents of the State of regular water supply from January 2020.

The residents of Abakaliki metropolis are equally happy over Governor Umahi’s interventions in the State’s Water Supply chain.

Noteworthy is Ezillo Water Scheme Project which according to Umahi is to begin full reticulation of water to capital city before mid January 2020.

Governor Umahi while presenting the budget estimates for 2020 fiscal year to the State Assembly recently pointed out areas the budget will address.

One of these areas, according to the Ebonyi Governor is the appropriation of over 60 billion Naira to the Works and Infrastructure for Concession which placed priority attention to the water supply chain in the state capital.

Umahi assured he will sustain the multisectoral transformation of the State under his administration with a view of placing the State on the same pedestal with developed economies.

Speaking to the Press Crew from the Office of the Special Assistant on Media, Hon Frank Uka, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Water Resources said Governor Umahi has declared state of emergency in the water sector.

Uka assured: “effective from January, 2020, we will commence full operation, there will be water in all the nooks and crannies of Abakaliki capital city from Ezillo Water Scheme Project,
“The Governor has provided all the materials to ensure we beat the January 2020 deadline”.

This intervention according to some residents, will boost the economy of the state and improve their living conditions.

Mombasa handles nearly twice the cargo handled by both Tema and Takoradi. Mombasa also handle more cargo than both Apapa and TinCan of Lagos do. Mombasa port handles twice what it competitor Dar Port does.

Mombasa generates revenues more than 500M USD annually. Profit of more than 150M USD. Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) is struggling to make 200M usd annual revenues and 20M profit.

Mombasa has I think 24 berths and construction is ongoing for more berths and container terminal.

In Africa Mombasa now sits in no 5 after Durban, Tanger med (Morocco), Port Said & Alexandria(Egypt)

In Sub Sahara Africa it sit next to Durban Port both in cargo and efficiency.
