helinues: With what are they going to use to develop their States when all the monies go to Abuja. Lagos for instance doesn't get up to 5% of what it generates from the federal government. Only true federalism will bring development to the states. Besides, the Constitution makes it difficult for States to carry out certain projects like oil refineries and power generation. Nigeria is designed to fall. Until we practice true federalism and overhaul our Constitution, we will be going round in circles and in fact backward. 1 Like |

TruthinAction: So the constitutions also dont allow them to build roads, provide portable water, increase the security, improve the state educational sector, inviting investors to invest in their respective states.. Na so our constitutions wicked reach? |

But Lagos is too congested for this kind of project, had it been it was sited in a place like Ondo it would have been better. Laying pipes from Akwa ibom, delta, Rivers or Bayelsa to Lagos is far oh, but anyway, Dangote knows his reasons. Besides, other Refineries should also be sited in these other states, while the ones we have should be 100 percent functional. Since this refinery won't serve all the country needs. |

helinues: The monies given to the states are grossly inadequate except for a few states that have good amount generated internally. Like I mentioned, what Lagos gets from FG is less than 5% of what it generates. Imagine if Lagos was allowed to control it's resources, it will compete with Dubai and other world class cities. There is excess money in Nigeria but all goes to the center and that is why looting is in billions of Nigeria and dollars. Imagine that billions of dollars missing under Diezani Allison Madueke. These monies are revenue from oil producing States. We must overhaul the Constitution and shift power for resource control back to the states. The federal government is a thief. And they are enjoying the stealing. Imagine the amount approved for the renovation of national assembly. Those in power know what to do but they love the system because of the benefits they enjoy at the expense of Nigerians. 1 Like |

PLEASE NOTHING AGAINST MR DANGOTE'S SUCCESS STORY. BUT, NOT HAPPY OVER THESE FAILED GOVERNOR'S VISIT. THEY ARE DESTROYERS NOT BUILDERS. THEY ARE CONFUSED, WHY HAPPY TOURING A PRIVATE COMPANY'S SUCCESS WHILE THE NATIONS REFINERIES ARE ROTTEN AWAY UNDER YOUR WATCH?. HAPPY OVER CONTINUED SUBSIDIES PAYMENT?, HAPPY OVER MONOPOLY? HAPPY OVER THEIR COLLECTIVE FAILURE? ! WHAT ENABLING ENVIRONMENT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? I HOPE THEY GO BACK AND REPLICATE HIS SUCCESS STORY IN THEIR STATES.[/color] |

AmuDimpka:if you had said in 80 years I would have believed but in ten no think am, one the reasons why coal phased out is because countries that are stakeholders are not much and there is no country that uses coal as it only or main source of revenue and energy plus unlike fuel it is not portable do you think some countries would let it phase out without a fight plus this solar, electric etc they have their short comings, definitely the price would drop and rise but the market would still strive |

Visionary leaders are key for national development. Private or Public. Peer review will be helpful if they will be willing to implement to other sectors of the economy. Just wanna make sense. |

The way forward for our government owned refinereis is simple 1.Sell them 2.Privatise NNPC...so that it isn't dependent on free cash from the government. Because free cash is what is fuelling the corruption in and around NNPC refinereis maintenance and repair... 3.Remove fuel subsidy, which would force NNPC to be a profit earning organisaiton, which in turn would make it run its refinereis much better, and would provide enough money for upgrades, and so on. It is the refusal of Nigerians to remove fuel subsidy, and the enterneched intersts in the corruption game in NNPC that is crippling our refineries. And costing Nigeria billions we don't have |

Skyfornia: Oil will be around for a long time yet. Consumer gadgets and cars may go electric, but the heavy industries that build them and other stuff will still rely on fossil fuel to power them. And more factories will spring up to make more batteries for those electrically powered stuff |

helinues: don't mind Nigerians. They always blame the constitution which is not the human beings who make decisions. The truth is that no matter the system of government we adopt we will always find it difficult to develop because, as Claude Ake once said, development has not always been on the agenda of Africa leaders. Development is not something you play with as we always do in this part of the world. Even the famed Karl Marx once said that industrial development was a matter of life and death.Countries who are serious and know what they are doing will continue to make money off unserious ones such as those in Africa. China is making a lot of money from dangote refinery more than what Nigeria is making. For instance, more than 80 per cent of the steel used in the construction of the refinery comes from China,in addition to hundreds of Chinese engineers doing the construction. You see when you don't invest in your people they become economic liability that millions of Nigerians have become. African leaders are poorly educated to understand the geo-politics of the world. This is the reason they have adopted the neo-liberal economic policies of the West, which in its entirety call for aggressive privatization of state assets and non interference in the economy by the state. In other words they are saying African leaders should not site industries and leave everything to private individuals. Now tell me how a country with such large number of unemployed and poverty stricken people going to survive if government does not play a role in the economy? I understand that Nigerian government is grossly inefficient in management, but leaving the establishment of industries to private individuals only will not help grow the nation. This is exactly what China rejected which has seen China develop so quickly. Some of the biggest corporations in china today are government owned. Corporations such Sinotrucks, XCMG,JAC motors, JMC motors, Hiense,FAW motors, foton motors, ZOOMLION construction equipment company and many others are state owned. The companies, in addition to creating millions of useful jobs and revenues for both the people and the government, have laid the foundation for technological development of both the country and the private sector, as many people who have previously worked in those state owned companies have gone on to establish their own companies. Example of such company is SANY heavy equipment construction company, which happens to be the six largest maker of construction equipment in the world. With the government being serious in its understanding it has a much bigger role to play in the industrial modernization of the country, Nigeria will continue to be underdeveloped with harrowing poverty for the majority. No private individuals in Nigeria have the capital and technology to do much. The government has to lay down the foundation for industrial development. |
