It's because everyone is pressured to do stuff they really don't want to. You know how many times I reject gifts and get weird looks? Some get upset that others didn't eat their food. Why would you get angry someone (especially someone you haven't really been close to) doesn't want to eat your food? Na by force? Abi you put something?

For someone else who cares deeply what others think of them, it's just easier to take it (to please the giver) and throw it away (because of fear or whatever).

It's the same culture that makes it a taboo to reject gifts that also raised people to fear the unknown.

Stop pressuring people to take your gifts and this would happen less.

Later went to the dustbin to see my lovely chicken dead and thrown in the dustbin. My mind just told me.

At least she should have thrown it elsewhere not the general dustbin

Why didn't she kindly reject it, rather than take my Christmas chicken, kill and throw it into the dustbin.

Ooh, I am so angry right now.

I don't know what to do if I should confront her or I should just foam in anger just like that.

Confront her politely and hear her out and if her explanation no make sense biko tell her your mind calmly and walk away. What rubbish.

Op the lesson u should learn from this is give to hungry people. Kill it, fry it and share to beggars. There are many of them all over Nigeria. They will bless you and appreciate it.

On the other hand, to avoid wasting that chicken, you should have taken it from the dustbin, make sure that evil neighbour or somebody else sees you, then go prepare kit, marinate , season and fry it into delicious pieces and go give them out to appreciative beggars or even cops and traffic controllers out there, they will appreciate and pray for you and you will have a deep sense of satisfaction

I gave out chicken to someone too,although,l bought mine in the market but you need to see the way she was praying for me.lnfact,she told someone that for the past 3yrs they have not celebrated Christmas with chicken,that her children are so happy now.Don't give things to people who don't need it.lf l'm in your shoe l'll rather ask her in a gentle manner than keeping quiet except there's more to this story . You would think a live chicken should be an exception, but some don't have exceptions with their fear. Some would even reject physical cash, believing it could be charmed to impoverish them. Yes, a far-fetched thinking, but it does happen. No thanks to witch doctors and their evil crafts everywhere.

The best bet? Only give physical gifts (including cash) to people you have a solid relationship with and long mutual trust.

The rest people (who don't belong in the class above), do only mobile cash transfer if you're feeling generous.

But hey, a very few weird folks may even transfer it back. If it happens, no worries. There's nothing new under the sun.

But still, ask the lady in a non-confrontational way. You need to clear your mind and the lady needs to know what she did is very bad and provocative (don't tell her the last bits though).

Whatever she says, don't say much afterwards. She'll get the message and, perhaps, amend her ways afterwards.

Absolutely right. Remembered when we were kids. We will first eat all the neighbors different types of rice before eating ours. My dad prefers rice and stew, so will will eat jollof, friend rice, pepper soup with different types of meat before eating ours much later in the day
Then we will all set out in groups going from one relatives house to another, soliciting for give outs( cash).
