A wedding took me to nnewi, I was delighted to go there and see good things for my self, shockingly, I was disappointed on getting to nnewi, it was an eyesore and bitter experience...the roads so thin, crowd of people on the road...

As I was Expressing my disappointment with my friends in the car.....it was clear from everyone's contribution that nnewi people can't spare there land for dualization of roads... Talk more of other huge projects.

Secondly..they don't care about anyone or implications of their inordinate building method, that's why a filling/gas station is housing a residential buildings with little or no fence..this also applies to business done virtually on the road etc...
It appears reason for this, is competition among themselves to be seen as most successful.

Development of a place demands Acceptance, commitment and sacrifice.. this has equally affected, incoming developments. Like the Mall etc...

Sorry this is my humble view..

Nnewi is a gigantic series of villages without planning and its a travesty considering the calibre of Nigerians that originate from there.

What the Anambra state government needs to do is activate its Urban Development Agencies. There is one for Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi but all need to be FUNDED and STAFFED PROPERLY with commitment by the State government:

1) The state government should allocate a percentage of its budget to the Nnewi Urban Development Agency and seek to funnel IGR (tax, licenses), NGO (World Bank, UN), FG (Auto industrial devt, FERMA) and donations from diaspora, rich Nnewi people into it as well. The State could even float bonds as well. Aim to raise at least a multi-billion naira budget which can make a dent.

2) Have a multi-year properly funded workplan for Nnewi Urban Development Agency with realistic key deliverables or KPI - such as x number of roads in year 1, % of the town that should have water supply, etc. They can go back to the UN-HABITAT masterplans and update it to know what key urban infrastructure needs to be built.

3) Get a good executive who should be an expert in urban infrastructure delivery irrespective of place of origin. Ensure that staff are hired based on competence not connection or place of origin. Get a good board of directors made up of Ndi Nnewi, Commissioner of Works, Commissioner of Public Utilities, Commissioner of Police, Catholic and Anglican Church leaders, PG of the Town Union, the Igwe of the Town and various Nnewi sons and daughters with integrity.

4) Ensure that all work activities are competitively awarded to competent companies and transparently published.

5) At the end of each year an independent auditor should audit and publish the expenditures of the Nnewi Urban Development Agency and release an Annual Report to the public on accomplishments of the Agency.

6) Utilize Nnewi Urban Development Agency to actualize the vision of Nnewi as a planned modern city with an industrial base that Nnewi people and residents of Nnewi can be proud of.

All these shows you don't know the road to Nnewi.

Develop your village first before propounding theories for others.

Is like this is a season of lies.
