You keep missing the point
Brazil alone has a higher birth rate than nigeria
U won't say brazil is totally backward would you
Also u have to factor in the fact that in south america and africa homosexuality is an anomaly hence man and wife
Also last time i checked china alone still has a billion plus population excluding immigrants
Are they backwards too?

I am surprised to find you at this side of the aisle given your political leanings but I respect your right to hold an opinion.

I have two, a boy and a girl. Do you know at my place of work they told me that i hate children for not wanting to have more. I tried to explain to them that even to take care of these ones is a tug of war, why should i want to bring more into these world to suffer them. I am even segregated for saying two is enough foe me.
Sister , we are in the same shoe ooo.... They will be looking at you as if you have issues with your womb

I totally agree with you OP, but may I please ask that you adopt the 2 instead of having them biologically. In the midst of grinding economic depression, please lead by example and take 2 children in in stead of creating more - prove your altruism.

I do not intent to say anything on this thread, but this I can't ignore.. and I intend to do this. I don't know why in this part of the world we value stupid things like the number children you have. Our resources are over-utilized, universities and other educational institutions are chiming out graduates like birds laying eggs. You don't have to sire a child before you can be a father or.mother... and u don't have to be one of you don't have the capacity to do so. The intense over population is the reason why employers are ruthless and demeaning. Pathetic.. having a child in this kind of environment without necessary succor to help the child overcome is waste of fucking life.. it's gambling. I would rather help the living than sire one in this unstable environment with little or no resources. Utter madness

Same here
But in fertility issues there is no one route or method
It's very complex
Some want one,some three,some five
I know a woman who left her marriage cuz the husband said 3 kids were enough
It's all a matter of choice

sad sad
If you earn a very low income, then you are part of the people causing problem in this country, many people will just give birth to bunches of kids and won't be capable of taking care of them, this kids will end up in the street becoming criminals, that is why Nigeria is overpopulated right now and over 50% lives in poverty. And another thing I noticed about Nigeria is that we are not taking advantage of what we have, which is our population, why do you think China is so developed today, its because they made perfect use if what they have.
If you know you can take very good care of 4 kids, even 10, no problem, but when you leave on an average income and you are thinking that way, thay is not a good idea

The woma must be a wicked woman. Will she be the one to pay the school fees of those kids? So why forcing the man to have more than 3? It’s rather unfair.

Personally, I won’t like to go beyond 2 if I still reside in 9ja by then.

All these stories of 2or 4 kids doesn't add up to me: on the contrary, why should one have even 4 kids in a country with low life expectancy, bad road and terrible health couple non functional educational system when I have the financial capacity to take care of dozen.

Our problem is that we copy the white without applying any sense of logic.
In our peculiar environment, please born as many as you can take good care of. If you don't, sure you'll take care of other people or relative responsibility.

My father had 21 lost 2, having 19 left we are all are virtually doing great, supporting each other.
Having experience joy of large family, I can never ask for a thin or slim family.

The point here is for us to reduce overpopulation at all cost. To do this, the decision must begin with us.
It mustn't be about your small family but the world at large. How do we reduce the number of people in Nigeria if you decide to have many children even if you can take care of them.
If we all decide to have one child, it will go a long way

Of course some regions of the country will never allow that. Only sane Nigerians will take the lessons derivable from this thread.

How many children did your parents have? Were your parents "average"? Were all things bright and beautiful in Nigeria at the time ? Wasn't there stress and bills during that period? Wasn't it more difficult to raise kids then than during their parents' time?
It is more difficult for the average parents to have and raise children than the parents before...... worldwide. We can be fearful.... look for guarantees first before raising a family.....or we can go ahead like mankind always did regardless of the present circumstances. Parents always.... always find a way of raising their children. All they need is freedom and that we have. Below average parents..... the ones at the bottom of the economic ladder... homeless... living under bridge... have you ever read of their children starving to death?

Where there is a will there is a way

Thanks. You are one of the few sensible commentators here.
I am in support if it is a matter of choice and not economic reasons. Because what this is about for many comments here is that, I am going to have 2 kids and I can not care for other people.

It is the selfishness of many and not ready to lend helping hands that is talking. Some have genuine reasons but Many of the comments is without sense of responbilities and space for others in their future families. Nigeria economy is just an excuse.
What they waste every month is enough to support a family of four. How much do they even send monthly to the parents that raised them since they started working?
You see them subscribing 12k DStv and data monthly. As status symbol they will rent 2/3 bedroom flats with vacant room that will be left unoccupied. Not to talk of changing to latest phones periodically, buying trending clothes monthly etc.
The country is bad, I admit. But it's that same country that their average parents fend for them and still catered for relatives that needed help.

From your story it means you are naive ,about humans history and development, when Nigeria is good whether you are educated or not if you have 4 ‐6 children you can still take care of them educationally until they are employed, but things have changed dramatically ,even those that have are not finding it easy now

You just reminded me of a child I had to carry in church today. A boy of about 6 months old. He happens to be the fifth child of his parents and looks obviously malnourished.

The dad said the family planning method failed and that the child was determined to come
. The other four kids also look malnourished. The man offered me the child to carry and I almost declined. People should please stop bringing innocent children into this world that they know they cannot cater for. Is it so hard to understand?

Why screw up your very interesting and engaging thread with your tribal remarks?
Did the north stop the south from developing?
If yes, how?
Are Northerners now governing the southern parts of Nigeria?
You sound educated, please don't surprise me.

My broda, no be small thing ooo. The thing dey always wonder me. If na America now, it’s ok. But Nigeria? With its problem with a domineering North bristling with millions of Islamic terrorists? Why would any southerner want to have so many children in this kind of country? 1 or 2 kids is enough with a comprehensive plan to emigrate at the earliest opportunity.

Naija doesn’t have a future & it has failed already. She is just yet to slip into internecine war.

Do you know any other. I am keenly interested in in the male contraceptives. Am following up on a research about a male pill for contraception.. it's still in the testing phase. For the record everyone has the right to sire as many as they want. There is no rule for or against it. But it's just unfortunate that we prefer to act on faith than facts, believe our religious leaders and ancient books when population was a big deal than reality where ordinary ndlea test, young blooded men and women were jumping walls and fighting to write test.. we rather let nature take it's course than plan. Yes, you can't always get the plan implemented in totality. True, but if there would be deviations, it would be more manageable than no plan at all. like I always tell people around me, provided you don't come knocking on my door for school fees or financial help.. we are good. Good luck..

Hello Bro. Uninspired07.
I like your post because you are single and inquisitive to know more, but I want to tell you, that the secret of any marriage is known only when you get married yourself.
Some average family have 10 children and they are doing fine, and I know a friend who have only one child, and they are finding it difficult to eat etc.

Not all northern have up to 4 wife's and many children, because in the Holy Quaran you are suppose to treat all of them equally, so many of them no longer marry much and bear much children.

My former neighbor an Igbo woman have 13 children from her late husband, and another I know well in Kwale have 17 Children. It doesn't matter where you are from, plenty children is a World wide thing.

NIGERIA IS NOT GOING TO ANY CIVIL WAR SOONER OR LATER......I have been so blessed to travel to more than eight Wartorn countries around the world.
THEY IS NO PEACE ANYWHERE ON EARTH, EVEN PEACEFUL COUNTRIES ARE ALWAYS HAVING THE FEAR OF TERRORIST ATTACK.

I CAN MENTION 7 EUROPEAN AND 9 ASIA BIG NATIONS THAT I HAVE TRAVELED TO THAT NIGERIAN ECONOMY IS FAR BETTER THAN THEM.

Calm down Bros. Nigeria is blessed, but Nigerian Citizen are the Most Stupid and Idiot set Vagabond's of a Homosapien walking on this planet!!!!

since your father was doing fine with 10 children in those days, I suggest he should marry another wife in today nigeria and have another 10 children let's see how he trains them this time, since you all are already grown up and doing fine... I bet you except your father is a politician or a criminal by one way or the other, he can not try that in today's nigeria and still give you proper training.
