I wonder why people are against construction of an airport in Anambra state, for the sole reason that other sister states close by has an airport.... Indeed that is a morbid thinking....

Well I thank God for my brothers that supports the project, the importance of airport in a state has an all round benefit.

To shock the opposition further, Ebonyi state has equally began construction of theirs which shall be completed in 18 months time, is obvious that is irrelevant for them to consider that their neighbor has an airport..

Even Bayelsa state whose indigenes are not notorious travellers and surrounded by sister states with functional airport was wise enough to have theirs and we are here relenting and pathetic of having an airport that is wholly beneficial to the state.

If ANSG continue listening to these dissents over construction of airport.. Ebonyi will be latest big guy on the block because they have a big, specific and peculiar facilities for their airport while we rot on
sentimental and pathetic indecision.

We are happy that ANSG is doing the right thing speeding up work on the airport site. It is only a hater that will not be happy with the airport project going on in Anambra. Below are some pictures of the project as at early November 2019. Hope to get new and current pictures soon. Peace

FROM ONITSHA WITH ECCLESIASTICAL BLESSINGS
By FEMI ADESINA

The dying days of 2019 saw my passage to the East, Onitsha, in Anambra State, precisely.
Was I looking for the wise men from the East, who had brought gifts to the baby Jesus born few days earlier? Date was December 30, and I had set forth at dawn, headed for the commercial city, to partake in the dedication of a Catholic Church, St Francis of Assisi Parish, Inland Town, built, furnished and donated by my friend, Sir Francis Okechukwu Anyakwo.
The Air Peace flight I boarded from Lagos to Asaba was filled to the brim. The airport in Enugu is under reconstruction, till Easter, and passengers naturally gravitated to the nearest gateway: Asaba.
I was fortunate to be onboard with the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, Agbogidi. I paid him royal courtesies, and he asked what was taking me to Onitsha. After I told him, he said he would be at the event, too.
The Obi is a happy man, very happy. And the greatest cause of joy is the Second Niger Bridge, being built by the Muhammadu Buhari government (or regime, if you like. Lol) after many decades of playing politics with the project by previous governments.
As we alighted at that beautiful airport built by former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan in Asaba, Delta State capital, the Agbogidi told me to look at my right when traveling across the River Niger, and I would see the emerging second bridge, in all its splendor.
The maiden bridge was built in 1965, and has been crying for a sibling for years. It turned to a tool for political advantage, as President after President promised to build the bridge, got the votes of the people, and showed a clean pair of heels thereafter. Goodbye basket, I’ve carried all my apples, they simply said. What Napoleon could not do, however, President Buhari is now doing, despite getting negligible number of votes from the area in the two elections he has won.
But that is not the main purpose of this write up. Rather, it is to talk about the homecoming of a backslidden Catholic boy, now a full Pentecostal. Yes, I was born and nurtured a Catholic, in the finest traditions of that church. Begin the Greater Doxology in Latin, and I will complete it for you.
Gloria in Excelsis Deo,
et in terra pax hominibus,
bona voluntatis
Laudamus te,
bendicimus te,
adoramus te,
glorificamus te,
gratias agimus tibi propter magnam....
I loved and still love the Catholic Church, so I was quite glad to break my holiday, fly to Onitsha, to be part of a sanctuary dedication.
On the River Niger, I looked right as instructed by the Obi of Onitsha, and saw it with infinite pleasure, the Second Niger Bridge, rising up in all its glory and effulgence , promising comfort and succor for people of the East, and all those traveling through that region. Again, I say: President Buhari has done what Napoleon couldn’t do, and the bridge will be completed before he exits office in 2023. Hallelujah somebody!
St Francis of Assisi Parish, Inland Town, Onitsha. I beheld it also with infinite pleasure. A work done through the hands of a simple, unassuming, godly man, Sir Francis Anyakwo. Impressive structure. A monument to the glory of God. Built and being donated wholesale to the Catholic Church. On hand to receive and dedicate the edifice was His Grace, Most Rev Dr Valerian Maduka Okeke, who said Anyakwo was the first Onitsha indigene to build a Catholic Church, and hand it over.
Onitsha, new, peaceful Onitsha, where has all the wildness gone? This was not the city I used to know. Onitsha, with its rough and tumble boisterousness, has suddenly transformed into a calm and sedate city. Clean. Non-threatening. Is it because it’s Christmas season? Well, may Onitsha remain so welcoming and accommodating. And may the Agbogidi reign for a long, long time. Amen.
The dedication. Do you recall when Solomon consecrated a temple to God in the Holy Bible? It was the same spectacle. Music, prayers, bible reading, blessing and sprinkling of water, responsorial psalm, litany of the saints, prayer of dedication, anointing of the altar and walls of the church, incensation of the altar and the church, lighting of the altar and the church.
Heavens came down, and glory filled my soul. And the souls of all the faithful, who filled the church to the brim.
In the homily, His Grace Most Rev Dr Okeke, spoke on gratitude, saying it is a feeling of gratefulness or indebtedness. And what I particularly took home was his declaration that “gratitude not expressed is not real. Until you express your gratitude either to God or man for a good done to you, then that gratitude is not real.”
God has done Sir Francis Anyakwo good, giving him a good family, good health, success in business, and all the other good things of life. He has expressed his gratitude through the building of St Francis of Assisi Parish, and donating it wholesale.
The Obi not only arrived early, he stayed all through the dedication ceremony, and paid tribute to Anyakwo, the illustrious son of Onitsha. It conveyed the gratitude of an entire city.
There was great rejoicing in Onitsha, and I sure was glad to have been part of it. The reception lasted from late afternoon into the wee hours of next day.
I left Onitsha, thankful to God for his mercies to the Anyakwos, to Nigeria, our country, and to the Eastern region, which finally has the Second Niger Bridge under construction. Who says President Muhammadu Buhari is not making a difference? And the half has never yet been told. Greater things will our country still see.

Sometimes I don't understand the herd mentality of people. People should learn to THINK for themselves instead of copying. An Airport is a hub of transportation. Nothing more, nothing less. It makes money from fees and taxes from flights. An airport is profitable the more valuable the flights that depart/arrive at its PORT. Most of Nigeria's airports are white elephants because they are built at huge cost and generate very little revenue.

Lets us an example - Asaba:

Asaba International Airport
Cost: 32 billion.
Passenger Traffic: 200,000 / year.
Average Revenue per year (est.): 600m
Operating Profit (est.) per year: < 130m

The State government has concessioned Asaba airport to private investors in exchange for 100m per year. The investors are not assuming the huge amount of debt sunk into the airport. Instead all they have to do is cover operational costs. But for Delta State government getting 100m per year it will take around 320 years to recover the 32b it sunk into that airport. That is the very definition of white elephant.

The only airports in Nigeria that are making serious money are the international airports with TRAFFIC. Lagos Murtala International Airport for example makes at least 15,000 per passenger and 3m international passengers go through it. Its revenue is easily over 45billion naira.

However, Enugu International does just 40,000 international passengers and 300,000 domestic passengers so its revenue is proably somewhere around 1.5 billion naira.

So given the low volume of flights throughout the South-East (Owerri, Enugu, Asaba), and the small distances between cities, the South-East State Governments really should be working together to promote ONE airport as a regional international aviation hub. Enugu ideally makes a lot of sense because of the existing infrastructure and federal investment. It was symbolic that all 5 state governors turned up when Goodluck pronounced that airport international.

Anambra State Government and others should focus on building proper large organized Bus and Truck terminals in cities for inter-state buses in major cities like Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka. This will yield a lot of revenue since most people move by road. For example, assume that around 3m people travel between Anambra and Lagos per year. If you build large bus terminals with bus ticketing offices and places to board buses and charge 7.5% VAT then a typical Lagos ticket of N4,000 will be taxed 300 yielding 1b in VAT on the Lagos-Anambra route. You concession parking, food stands, shops and bus terminals can compete with Air Ports in revenue.

The same goes for trucks and trailers and individal-owned buses. The State government loses a lot of revenue to street agents by allowing buses, trucks and trailers to park along the sides of expressways rather than in official parks. In organized countries, trailer parks not only yield parking revenue but conveniences.

Finally, the state has to recognize illegal hawkers not as symptoms of "poverty" but as a single-owner business. In other countries street vending is licensed and fixed to a particular spot and limited in number not to constitute nuisance. New York City for example has a few street stands where t-shirts or popcorn or bags are sold. They are carefully regulated. They have trash bins and pay tax to the city. But in Nigeria, you have armies of hawkers laying siege to popular corners of business districts dumping trash on the street or in gutters. Totally unregulated.

Everybody is against but you still can't take your busy body out of this thread.

It is now obvious you are one of those paid agents that always carry anti-anambra advice but this particular one is too late because progress has already been made.

Why concerned so much here?

Why not use this energy and advice your state government on how to improve industrialization.

Crying more than the bereaved.

Oga, Anambra is a state not one kind of Eastern region or province . Anambra is an Independent state created on her own to pursue development as desired.

There is no law stipulating all these nonsense you writing above. All the other states should seriously focus on their states and forget all these nonsense of we have this in our state so others should wait. It can serve us.

It is only in this zone that you keep hearing such nonsense. An independent unit struggling to control another Independent unit.

Recently Minister of Aviation said the reason Bayelsa airport hasn't started operation is because by of perimeter fencing or something like that which they seemed necessary and the state government acknowledged.

Every state should develop at her own pace and how they deem fit.

The destiny of states are not tied to each other. No state has her destiny tied to another

There should be Zoning laws and building codes . There should be a designated industrial district which houses factories like innoson and the rest ,perhaps Nnewi area .
Keep in mind that industrial is different from commercial. Industry means manufacturing ,while commerce is the exchange of already manufactured goods and services between entities .
The commercial district which I think should be Onitsha area should have waterfront walk / park , seaport , malls ,movie theaters ,stadiums ,and high rise apartment buildings like the blue buildings which was built at a village . If there was zoning laws ,the blue building should have been built at a designated commercial district which is ideally Onitsha area .
Residential can mix with commercial, but mixing residential and industrial is a no no (that means people have to be moved and things have to be demolished to achieve this ). And ideally there should be at least 8 bridges with pedestrian walkways connecting the river as I envision Onitsha/Asaba as the focal point of a future mega city .

Yes there should be. But first, for Onitsha, Awka, Nnewi, the state government start with FIXING commercial districts to be functional and attractive. There should be pavements, streeet lighting, traffic lights, parking laws (no-parking or drop-off zones), setbacks for shops, enforcement against illegal trading and water and waste management.

European commercial districts remain the gold standard for how to organize "Shopping districts". They are clean, well lit, pedestrian friendly, secure, waste bins provided everywhere to drop trash, police patrols and shops are attractive. Contrast with Nigeria where shopping districts are allowed to degenerate by government. Illegal hawkers everywhere, trash and filth everywhere, chaotic transport, illegal parking, haphazaradly built shops.

Street markets in Europe are limited in size and scope. They are built of iron/aluminium, properly roofed, have proper bright, airy spaces for pedestrians to walk through, have accessible entry, exits, are inspected for sanitary standards. Nigerian street market? Built of wood and concrete, generally ugly, not properly roofed so during rainy season water and dirt puddles, they explodein size with no control with too many shops, provide few conveniences, little waste management, non-existent water supply.

Lets fix the little things first.

Because instantly I grew up without manners for giving you back the truth raw.

You have spent so much time salivating on this single topic and you should give it up because the state government is now determined to make it a reality.

The destiny of anambra state is not tied to anybody but each state was created simply for development.

You only come here to give us sermon on the mount. It is not needed because it can easily be likened to paid agents bearing the time and energy you have spent on this single topic with no positive result.

GIVE IT UP, the destiny if any state is not tied to another unless they decide to come and agree.

More immaturity from a child. You need to learn to RESPECT other people's difference of opinion. You need to learn how to ARGUE based on objective opinion not PERSONAL ATTACKS. You need to GROW UP.

Your objectivity should be for yourself alone and not a must. Your public opinion is needed in Nigeria factor not a state factor you doesn't belong.

Did Anambra state made you their consultant?

The answer as well is No.

They say charity begins at home and not in another man's land. Your house is on fire and you busy looking for another man's house to quench his fire.

Who does that?

Before a warrior goes onto battle, he must make sure his house is in order before heading out.

Your objective Opinion should start from your base before advising others on what to do. That's how reasonable men behave.

Thank you brother, it is only one bastard that is here crying for what does not concern him, the airport project is already ongoing,

Armon:

This is one reason why your life is miserable today, your thoughts mirrows your condition in life. How does the failure of another state concerns Anambra biko? Does it mean that if other airports in SE fail, that ours in Anambra will join them too.

Stop being a nuisance on this thread. Go and mark it somewhere, Anambra international airport will be NIgeria's busiest airport after Lagos, Abuja and PH.

Stop disturbing us here with your failed life, you cannot dictate anything for us. Take the advise and go fix your miserable life, The airport project is already ongoing, get use to it.

Lets us an example - AsabaAsaba International AirporCost: 32 billion.Passenger Traffic: 200,000 / year.Average Revenue per year (est.): 600m
Operating Profit (est.) per year: < 130The State government has concessioned Asaba airport to private investors in exchange for 100m per year. They lose revenue by allowing hawkers to operate tax free carrying goods around or selling barrows rather than selling in shops. In organized countries, trailer parks not only yield parking revenue but conveniences, in other countries street vending is licensed and fixed to a particular spot and limited not to constitute nuisance - New York City for example has a few street stands where t-shirts or popcorn or bags are sold but you will see one on a street that pays a tax to the city not 50 roaming around with buckets on their head or dumping trash of fruit or plastic in the gutter.

Everything is wrong with, why are you crying over a project that does not concern you. The project is ongoing, why not go to the site and say this rubbish and see if you will come out alive. Bastard

Something is seriously wrong with you. Every criticism of the state government means being "anti-Anambra". You always are looking for who to abuse. You need to learn maturity and how to communicate with people since you clearly behave like a child who grew up without manners. GROW UP.
