I don't have intention to discredit your opinion. The Passport number of International passport changes. Attached is a copy of my passport showing the old number and the new one. Also most bank's started validating international passports in 2017. Some bank's may accept it and get a deferral from their compliance unit to open the account. I can assure you at some point, you will be required to provide a valid means of ID before such accounts can become fully operational.

In UBA Plc, you don't need to come to our office before you can open account. What is needed is just your BVN.

Bank accounts are to be opened with a VALID means of identification which can include drivers license, voters card, national ID and Int Passport. An expired means of identification is not a valid means of identification. The bank can however cut corners by opening an account with an expired document but risk regulatory sanctions if they are caught.

I did same when mine expired and UBA still accepted it.
Alternatively, go and open an account with Zenith bank they will do the national identity registration for you there on the spot, no need for your international passport.

Government that put expiry date on an I.D knows that before it expires there would have been changes in your biodata such as address or change of location, telephone number etc so biodata cannot be the same for 5 years except you no make progress as a person thats why banks call for update of account info regularly cos they know some data about You changes....

I don’t think there’s a point trying to correct the guy...he’s not only adamant over what is wrong.. he’s also defensive by insulting people’s mother and father.

Are you sure? I opened recently using the short code 919, got an account number and even sent money into it. However to check balance is an issue cos I'm being asked to sign up with my card number which I don't have. Any help?

Debit card is a sensitive device, hence you need to come to the business office to get it. Afterwards DSEs and Digital champions of UBA can set you up.

Just come along with a passport, valid ID and utility bill for a massive transaction account.

If not, only passport can do.

The data page has the expiry date.

Opening accounts was my job for about three years. So I can tell you that an expiry id cannot be used. Not even as an identity to withdraw from the bank with a cheque.
