I am also nursing this feeling of leaving for Dubai to huzzle, save up there and relocate to Europe much later. I'm 29, graduated since 2014 and all my efforts to get a job failed. Have been managing doing little business and have been able to save up something for the trip. But with the advise you gave earlier am scared bro. I don't want to loose my money and suffer from untold hardship in another man's land. Please I need reasonable advise from ppl already there and everyone reading this. Help a brother. Thanks
Continue with your business, create accounts with job sites, upload ur CV Der ( naukrigulf, gulf talent etc.) and apply to recommended jobs as much as you can or visit career sections of companies for vacancies. It is better to move when you have a work secured.

The fact that it doesn't favour doesn't mean everyone is/would be in your situation. Yes people are suffering and doing hard/odd jobs but are people also enjoying and getting paid well? That's a fat yes..

Alot of you people just jump on the bandwagon , save/borrow money and paid agent for visa without having a plan of your own believing your agent will set you up well when you landed.

Alot of information on this thread and online if you devote your time to read and research. You don't even need anybody to tell you if you should go to UAE or not if you do your research and plan your movement because the information at hand would guide you better.

UAE is flooded already, more with People with no particular profile so the job hunt is crazy if you have no needed skill. Even people with skills are finding it hard talkless of people with none and with the bonus of you being a Nigerian.

My advice don't come to UAE until you got answers for all the questions your mind is asking, have plan ABCDE or F will be your best friend, don't take on the journey on your life savings or loan, keep it a secret and keep the Dubai pictures to phone at least til you get a job and they do your visa so that if it doesn't work well for you, you'll jejely return home like you went on vacation.

Peace

Thanks for your response. I understand your position perfectly, however I have "few" people currently doing white collar jobs there. I am not looking to go as a "coolie" but as an "expatriate". I am sending out applications, if I get lucky, fine. If not, no problem. The bottom line is that, I will try. I will however not take risky trial so that I don't regret it. This is why I have been following this thread silently and asked that question you quoted.

Once again, thanks.

Since you agree that some people are getting it right, let us quit this scaremongering. Can you share your experience?

Somebody like me need your experience. I have been there on visit last year and saw things myself too. I saw guys in the Deira market and all. I know most of these things you are saying. However, I have closet friends doing good jobs there too. So, I am actually trailing their own path and using their advice. What we need from someone like you is to tell us how to get it right in our effort. Securing opportunity there can be a life-changing opportunity. Don't discourage people from trying.

If u still want someone to tell you if to to go to UAE or not, then you are not ready for UAE. Life itself will s a risk. Leave your comfort zone and go try your luck somewhere else. With determination you will succeed. I have read this thread from the end of part 3 to the beginning. I have my plans and I believe I’m going to make it over there. There is no going back.

Here comes the back and forth again. Nobody dashes out jobs in any part of the world, Nigeria, India, Canada, UK or UAE. Even people with skills are jobless all over the world. There has to be a good plan.
The good/bad thing about UAE is that they give every Harry a visa. That's what other countries will never do. If the whole world flocks Germany looking for work without usually any skills except luck, they'd have same problem anywhere.

UAE and it's too much problems, someone can easily get hypertension here it's so fucking tough with getting the job then landing to fraudulent HR with there well masterminded plan of extortion, if God willing and you overcome save up and run. It's not easy here even few with jobs know how tough it was before they got one and what most in it are passing through. Please follow your heart, stay woke and stay prayerful. Happy new year

Just remembered Nairaland and this thread after a long while.

My previous handle was https://www.nairaland.com/giftdavid711 . I forgot the password so I had to create a new account today.

I posted about moving to Dubai in 2018, how I secured a job with 23,000 AED base salary and a good relocation allowance.

Everyone here said I was getting SCAMMED or I was lying.

Well, update: I moved to Dubai, I love it here. My current base salary is 29,000 AED and I have received tens of thousands in bonuses over the last few performance review cycles at my company. Even more awesome is the flexible working schedule.

I read some of the last few comments on this thread. I will give the same 2cents I gave almost 2 years ago on this thread.

Pick a field that is in demand and spend several years trying to be one of the best (absolute or relative). It is not easy, but it is an investment in your self.

What is a lot harder is coming here to work in a sweatshop.

The internet is free, go to bed every day more knowledgable than when you woke up.

Don't be quick to move ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

PS: The above is trite, but holds regardless and applies to knowledge workers mostly.

Let me know if you have any questions. I DON'T provide any jobs. The best I can do if you are a highly skilled engineer is provide a recommendation.

Also; if you're paying to secure the job, be careful of whom you're giving money, no friend or brother in UAE

It actually concerns working in a university in UAE and some little details as it concerns having a convincing CV to get interview invite.

Nice thread... I started following few days ago.

I have some guys who relocated to dubai few years back and they're currently doing fine though started with some meagre jobs almost immediately on touch done. However, right now when you ask about relocation and job prospects in the UAE they're always painting some risky scenarios like some folks here.

The issue now is I have a bro who has HND in building tech and have finished service since 2018. He worked briefly with a building contractor in the island in Lagos but the pay wasn't taking him home and poor working conditions before relocating to the village to be assisting a friend with building works they do contracts for mostly individuals and sometimes government. This is not very steady and he's been applying for series of jobs, wasting his savings to travels, etc. I recently advised him to go for an online design course that he's currently on.

Main point: I have been able to save about 1m from my small job and although I have relocation plans myself (but my motivation is advanced studies), I think I can aid him in relocation to the UAE if we can make trustworthy links. So he can get a job and also start assisting the family (that I'm doing mainly since my dad passed 4 years ago) when he settles down.

But with what I'm being told, the expenses involved and prospects, I don't want to waste the little funds I've been able to gather.

So any experienced advice will be appreciated.
