I need some clarification on why my batteries i have used for two years now are expanding and releasing Hydrogen gas.. i have two Solar charge controller to the batteries. Reason for the two charge controller was limitation to the rating on the charge controller. 40A and i had no fund to buy higher rating then.
Battery = 4 batteries
Charge controller= 40A each.
8 panels (4 {250w} and 4 {300w} )

Lol... why do you call it stupid? Log storage most likely wasn't added as a feature.

Is there a setting to cut off the output to that load at a certain battery level/voltage?, you said you were gona check the manual.

This is what you asked for

1000 watts and 1200 watts respectively. I guess the panels are wired separately. Are the batteries combined or also separated to individual CCs?
What type of batteries are they?

Gurus, over to you.

48v or 24v system?...
What type of batt, and did you follow the batt voltage charge setpoints as specified by manufacturer?.
What bulk/absorb/float voltage settings did u set on the cc?.
Whats the max avg instantenous harvest, you see.

OP should oblige us with the name of the CC in use. A lot of the cheaper MPPT in the market are 1 stage chargers. They charge batteries to the set voltage and stop there, no form of Bulk, absorb and float. I am currently a victim of this CC but i noticed mine early and am gonna swap to Fangpuson any moment. .I presently use my CC as backup to maintain float voltage of 26.6 after Must Power have used grid to do the 3 stage charging of my battery. These CC's are so bad that if u set 29.6v for flooded batteries, it will charge to that 29.6v and remain there forever...overcharging...

Holy molly! shocked shocked thank goodness no life was lost. Na money waka so oh! Chaaaai!

I have a li-ion pack that isn't doing what it was designed to do so i repurposed it. I later got to learn that the builder didn't put a bms in a 70cell battery pack.... Well I'm currently using it very below its stated rating of charge and discharge but i still always have my heart in my mouth when it is connected. Maybe i go just go disconnect the darn thing sef. undecided

Why not get a bms for it? It's really dangerous

batr over voltage then inverter shutdown as protection. check preset over voltage of inverter and marry ur batr charging setpoints on solar. enjoy ur money

2. over heat can also cause it

- Charge voltage? Likely overvoltage charging
- I suspect the CC has no float trigger
- Without temperature compensation, a little over-voltage or even sustained bulk could lead to thermal runaway. Buckling of the plates leads to further buckling ... until bridges appear and an explosion becomes near inevitable.

You might want to consider discarding those batteries if their integrity can't be guaranteed.

Let's have pictures of your setup with the following highlights
- CC

- panel arrays and connections

I am not at home now so i can't provide picture to respond. I think the CC don't have a temperature compensation. The voltage has not rise to a point above rated charge. what recently i did was to remove two bad batteries and in put only two batteries in service. The two batteries in service have started expanding and releasing this fouls smell.
The two CC are connected in parallel to the battery.
The first set of panels each rated {250} are in series connection.
The second set of panels each rated for {300w} are in series connection.

The panels are wired in two banks and has independent CC. But the CC are connected in parallel to the battery.

U removed 2 Batteries to leave 2. What if the CC is on Manual settings to 48V? Haven removed 2 batteries, U will be pumping 48v on 24v batteries, this will be a disaster waiting to happen. Kindly get a professional to assess yr setup pls

It's likely your floated charge voltage is very high above the normal boost charge voltage for those types of batteries. Hence the frying of your batteries. Your cc are they pwm.

Please i am trying to install a solar panel system for my parents, can you recommend a good solar installer in Ilorin? ------ AM SURE ANY OF THE INSTALLERS WOULD CONTACT U, IF ITS A BIG PROJECT. ZEESTONE/NIYI/KIEKIE ETC, DISTANCE ISNT AN ISSUE. IF NONE..THEN CONTACT ANY SOLAR INSTALLER IN ILLORIN LET HIM GIVE YOU HIS DESIGN, AND YOU COME HER POST IT AND WE QAQC IT

Secondly, I want to ask if anyone can help with the schematic drawing for hybrid inverter connection. I am not an expert but I try to read up, and from my readings, it seems that the connection of solar hybrid inverter is different from the normal solar-inverter connection. -------ALMOST SAME..JUST THAT IT HAS ANOTHER NEG & POS TERMINAL FOR THE SOLAR PANELS INPUT, THEN THE STANDARD NEG& POSITIVE TERMINAL FOR BATTERY

Thirdly, I assume I don't need a charge controller if I am using a hybrid inverter...please help clarify. ....YES

Lastly, what is the recommended cable size and type for connection from the panels to the inverter....this is so that if I don't get a recommended installer, I can at least monitor the one I can manage to get to ensure a good connection.---THIS IS A FACTOR OF DISTANCE, THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN THRASHED A MILLION TIMES HERE, AND LINKS POSTED TO CROSSCHECK YOUR CABLE REQUIREMENT

Hello sorry am jst seeing this .. I just supplied solar materials to same Ilorin axis but you can pchat me for recommendation regarding an installer if you haven't gotten yet! Cheers
