Well technology is getting deeper by the day and the more we go in the more cyber threats we get. For instance, our computers, our mobile phones, our TVs, the devices we use are all connected to the internet, so much of our lives is dependent on the internet which has the power to break us more than ever. This is where Cybersecurity comes in as we need something there to keep us protected from the outside forces that comes in through the internet.

I also intend applying for msc in cybersecurity but I think a career In cybersecurity requires more of certification than a msc degree? . I'm a fresh chemical engineering graduate awaiting nysc.

Hello beautiful people,

Happy New Year...

Back to the UK finally and with family..

NI application done & waiting.. and Monzo account opened..

However, i need some answers to:

- Which of the brands i can use to send money to Nigeria? Transferwise? World Remit? Azimo? NOTE: I ain't signed up yet to anyone..

- Please how do i apply for provisional driving license? and what do i need?

Also, if i apply for my provisional license now with my BRP, nd during this wait time for the license, i get a job.. and then i'm asked to show my BRP.. Will it suffice if i show my employer a photocopy pending when i get my BRP back ?

- How far the job market? i just dey apply like say dem swear for me.. been having phone call interviews but nothing serious yet..

Hows 2020 treating y'all?

Azimo or Worldremit

https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence

Your not submitting physical copies....

Keep applying like then swear for you, you never know which would click....... Just ensure uniformity in applications.........

Having a certification does not verify your ability to apply the knowledge. What's most important is your skills. Do you have programming skills?

Me too, are you a developer?
No sir. Am a network engineer. I plan doing some certifications there before I finish my program. Stuffs like CISSP, ITL CISA and others. We die there.

Programming skills is for if he wants to become a dev. Programming is a passion, not everyone can do it so you can’t force it on him.

Also, a certification is all you need in the UK, not even a masters. They will test your ability later, but your certification is what you need to get in.

Do ITIL first to get a job then CISP or CISSA afterwards. After two years of practice, do TOGAF and aim for Business or Enterprise Architecture. On the way, make sure you get basic data skills (sql or python)

I want to even start studying for CISA cry

if you dont have relevant experience , having certification adds credibility to your profile

In my opinion, there is a massive demand for software developers/ engineers and security is one of the core skills.

jesmond3945:
lol so which do you think is in high demand, if I may ask.

security is a specialized skill on its own. Not every software developer can do it. I am one so I am in a better stead to tell you.

You don’t get, the certificate is not enough without skills. I got the info from a Cybersecurity expert in the UK and he said most graduates have security certificates without skills, it is very possible to read to pass an exam and not have the knowledge to apply it in the real world.
That’s why he said there are less skilled personnel in the field.
And on the programming aspect, to be a successful Cybersecurity expert the knowledge of programming is essential.

I’m not saying certificate doesn’t add, but certificate without the knowledge to apply problem solving skills in IT won’t get you a job. I have spoken with two Security experts and this is what they told me. It is very easy for me to read for CISA, Cisco and pass it excellently but still not be able to apply the knowledge security requires. That’s all I’m saying

If certificate was enough to be a Cybersecurity expert, why do we still have shortage of skilled personnel in the field of security. These days graduates are after the certificates they can get but don’t bother working on the skills.

I would say depending on what level you want to enter in ..... while industry knowledge is different from education knowledge and the higher seller is industry more than certificate , a certification in IT helps. For senior roles it's less of certification and more about relevant work experience .

However at the bottom of the chain if you are wanting to enter and then climb up then certification helps to enhance the lack of experience. What most important after that certification is how you sell yourself on the CV , the interview and how it deliver and grow from there
