you need sense. maybe black mamba isn't found in the potor potor landlocked land of bia'fraud.
I'm a zoologist who is also more into wildlife and Eco tourism so I won't bother myself to argue with u.

That your zoology degree is fraudulent but I'm not surprised, though.

In this God forsaken hell hole you all call a country, it's not news that guys bribe lecturers and ladies sleep with them for you all, to get a pass mark.

The only annoying thing is that, with your staggering ignorance, you have more chance to be a governor or president than one who has earn the best grades honestly, by studying diligently and being open-minded to learn from others. It's sad. No offence intended.

What Kind Of Snake Is This?

I have a mini poultry and for months I noticed eggs are being tampered with. I suspected a snake but I couldn't find traces until yesterday while trying to relocate some, I found this snake close to one of my chickens laying eggs. It was the culprit. It has killed several of my chickens and I'm happy it met its waterloo.

What kind of snake is this and how do I prevent its reoccurrence?

What baffles me is my poultry is surrounded by houses people live in 247. I wonder where this one came From.
How are snakes killed please? Gun, stick, cutlass or stones?

that's a black mamba, very potent venom which kill within 20mins, a drrop is enough to kill 20 fully grown adult men, it is expected since you have a poultry, you can't really prevent dem from coming but you can atleast get snake traps or plant a particulr leaf called taba leaf it wards dem off
that's not a black mamba. We don't have black mambas in West Africa. It's most likely to be an African forest cobra.

You're right , the under belly of this one seems to be too red which is making people think it's a red bellied black snake. I would have said same too but red bellied black snakes are only found in Australia. The next specie that has that kind of red coloring is the black necked spitting cobra. They usually have a black body and some patches of red under belly.
Yes the red bellied black snake is ONLY native to Austrailia.
Thinking about it, they're probably even all dead now since Australia has lost almost a billion animals in these past week fires.

Some have patches of yellow.

If it's white and under of its neck region is white, then, it's a west african forest cobra. Non-spitting though.

I heard the venom doesn't kill.
How true is this?
False
It has venom tho not as potent as other venomous snakes.
Highly venomous snake bites can kill a human in 20 minutes.
A black necked spitting cobra's venom however will kill a man in about 26 hours if not treated, so mortality rate is much lower and about 90% of the victims will survive from the treatment.

Except if they spit directly into your eyes.

The venom is usually accurately directed at the victim's eyes at distances of more than two metres and may cause temporary, or even permanent, blindness unless promptly washed away.
And studies even show that spitting cobras hit their target at least eight out of ten times — that's deadly accuracy!
So one still has to be extremely careful around them.

You are also an illiterate and an olodo. This is a black necked spitting cobra not a red bellied snake.

Woman that is not a black necked spitting cobra. Do you know how long I had studied snakes before?

Do you know how many I have killed when I at work at a construction site?

I know a spitting cobra when I see one and non spitting ones.

Spitting cobra would like curving its neck backward when cornered, just like if you wanna throw a cough in your throat, you raise the cough up, move your head backwards with the help of the neck, and then you spit it out. So does spitting cobra does.

The non-spitting ones would keep their head to the ground. They pretend to be dead or wrap themselves up.

There are many ways to identify a snake

1. Colour
2. Shape of head
3. Fangs
4. Tail
5. Type of body; thick, shinning, smooth
6. Eyes
7. Neck
8. Belly
9. Belly lining wall
10. Mouth( e.g black mamba has a black mouth inside)
11. Environment
12. Shape of egg
13. Speed, movement
14. Climbers
15. Skin (like pythons and Anacondas have spots)
16. Scales
17. Position of venom gland
18. Heat sensor
Many more

How can you differentiate between a green mamba and a black mamba

A boomslang and green snake

Spitting cobra and a non-spitting cobra

A puff adder and a viper

Yellow bellied snake and a red bellied snake

A cotton mouth and a water maccuson

A Zoologist brought back home a green snake not knowing it's a venomous boomsland thinking it was a new specie, he even gave his children to play with but they were scared. The snake bit him, immediately after that, he started feeling uncomfortable, he rushed to the hospital, but it was too late.

He died.

You can Google about a zoologist that brought back home a boomslang thinking it was a garden green snake

Cobra, I have used fish hooks glued to eggs (with a fish line attached and tied to a twig) to kill that crazy snake in the past, sold them for some good cash to those who eat them.

As along as u have forest anywhere in Subsaharan Africa u have Mambas there
If u haven't seen it others have seen it

All animals in a Subsaharan Africa exist in every part
Some just have more than others

NatGeo is restricted to research in eastern and Southern Africa mostly
West and Central Africa is not their strong base
