Yet Onitsha people allowed Isoma-Igbo to be used as testing ground in the villages. Had the Onitsha people convinced Bishop Crowther to use their dialect for central Igbo, it would have saved us a lot of stress. And my children and I and millions of other Igbos would be better of today. At least we woukd be speaking the general Onitsha dialect same way the Yoruba's now speak the Oyo dialect. But here we are today stressing ourselves learning a conglomerate of dialect called Igbo-Izugbe.

So if the Onitsha people accepted the Isoma-Igbo and helped Crowther and others improve on it to what is known as Igbo-Izugbe, are we to say no to it? I'm asking you cry babies.

Igbo-Izugbe same as Igbo bu Igbo has come to stay in Nigeria and future Biafra . Everything in life happens for a reason and in the case of Ndigbo it's for a positive reason.

If anything , the Igbo Izugbe did more harm than good because it brought about a forced social events that may have harmed the growth and development of the state. I will like to hear an Aro man speak his primary dialects. Lets print 1000 dictionaries if so be it but lets preserve all Igbo cultures uncluding languages.

I suggested this for a while now. I believe it is in the linguistic interest of everyone that the various lects capture their speech in writing as accurately/best as possible. Such freedom will promote the fluidity that once existed and allow us to get back to the point where we were coining terminology. This is how the language can escape stagnation and finally grow again.

Well on point. And like you rightly suggested, perhaps , we should adopt the North Central Igbo and South Central Igbo. Igbo Izugbe is only used for news casting in Igbo. Which is a mockery.

Onitsha dialect is the choicest even among the colonial masters who spoke it then.

Igbo-Izugbe is not stagnated. Only the perennial fault finders think so.

The internet revolution is even helping to spread it fast than you can imagine. Google translate has made it easier to learn Igbo that even other tribes use it to interact with us. Nairaland is a good example, that even imposters can claim Igbo with it's usage.

The world is moving towards globalization and the likes of BBC Igbo, Youtube etc will always put us in the map. Igbo-Izugbe is growing in leaps and bound in ever nook and cranny, in radio stations, in advertisements and in government sensitization programmes.

However, an indegenious Igbo country would help propagate the Igbo-Izugbe to greater heights.
