IDENNAA: Agreed. Izugbe has not achieved what it was created for, and to make matters worse, it has contributed towards the stagnation of the language. Izugbe essentially is doing the opposite of what the creators intended. Ogbalu is turning in his grave. At the very least, Izugbe should be supplanted by the urban speech standards (NCI and SCI). As it is now, Izugbe is technically a defunct standard/speech form. |

ChinenyeN: Thank you for that excellent observation. Because when I listen to different Igbo speakers they all tend to converse in their own primary dialect. If anything , the Igbo Izugbe did more harm than good because it brought about a forced social events that may have harmed the growth and development of the state. I will like to hear an Aro man speak his primary dialects. Lets print 1000 dictionaries if so be it but lets preserve all Igbo cultures uncluding languages. 2 Likes |

Chef2000 aka okpalanambra. Take another lesson: Obi of Onitsha as the king that represents all igbos was the only king visited by Queen of England in 1956. 2 Likes

IDENNAA: I suggested this for a while now. I believe it is in the linguistic interest of everyone that the various lects capture their speech in writing as accurately/best as possible. Such freedom will promote the fluidity that once existed and allow us to get back to the point where we were coining terminology. This is how the language can escape stagnation and finally grow again. |

ChinenyeN:It will continue to fail..the Igbo dialects are actually the bastion of Igbo language, if it does die then there is no Igbo Language |
Re: . by Nobody: 4:04pm On Feb 02, 2020 |
ChinenyeN:Maybe you should go and tell the federal government, WAEC the higher institutions, the intenational bodies such as Google, BBC and Jehovah witness that keep using it. Abeg you guys are fighting a lost battle. The ship has already sailed and the Igbo-Izugbe would keep marching to greater heights. Even our grand children will use it. 1 Like |

ChinenyeN: Well on point. And like you rightly suggested, perhaps , we should adopt the North Central Igbo and South Central Igbo. Igbo Izugbe is only used for news casting in Igbo. Which is a mockery. 2 Likes |

Onitsha dialect is the choicest even among the colonial masters who spoke it then. https://www.academia.edu/32369727/DIALECTAL_HEGEMONY_DYNAMICS_THAT_INFLUENCED_THE_DOMINANCE_OF_ONITSHA_DIALECT_AMONG_IGBO_DIALECTS 1 Like

Re: . by Nobody: 4:15pm On Feb 02, 2020 |
ChinenyeN:Igbo-Izugbe is not stagnated. Only the perennial fault finders think so. The internet revolution is even helping to spread it fast than you can imagine. Google translate has made it easier to learn Igbo that even other tribes use it to interact with us. Nairaland is a good example, that even imposters can claim Igbo with it's usage. The world is moving towards globalization and the likes of BBC Igbo, Youtube etc will always put us in the map. Igbo-Izugbe is growing in leaps and bound in ever nook and cranny, in radio stations, in advertisements and in government sensitization programmes. However, an indegenious Igbo country would help propagate the Igbo-Izugbe to greater heights. 3 Likes 1 Share |
