Kenya is not Ghana - the IMF colony. I am going to keep repeating this. The last time we had power rationing was I think during the drought of 99 - then we were reliant on hydro - and you know what - we stopped. That is about 20yrs ago. We invested heavily in geothermal (we are now world-leading experts of geothermal energy). Geothermal is not only renewable but it's also good baseload. We also have largest wind farm in Africa (300MW), lots of solar plants and etc.

Our total power is 3000mw - with consumption around 2,200mw - that is small overcapacity - if you take care of systemic losses and standby power.

When I talk about meters...it got nothing to do with distance (transmission length). I just questioning your 90% electricity access figures. If you're a country of 30M with an average household size of 4 - then Ghana has 7-8M households. We know from your distros that total metered customers are 4m. If we assume 1 meter = 1 household. It shows you have A PROBLEM. Kenya has about 10-11M households in pop of 47.5M. Our metered customers are nearing 8M as we speak.

Let me end there - this probably too much for you.

very stupid as usual , so you are yet to change from this nonsensical approach of reasoning, Are you talking about the same economy moody agency rated from B3 stable to B3 positive just last week? the whole Ghana economy positive structure and progress must be clearly an enigma to kenya and you idiot ...

You suffer a lot of rain shortage and drought, how will you rely on hydro power ? which is still consider a very good advantag becuse hydropower plants can generate power to the grid immediately, they is usually essential back-up power whenever electricity outages or disruptions occur unlike wind power your goverment is aggressively promoting and likewise in addition to a sustainable fuel source, hydropower efforts produce a number of benefits, such as flood control, irrigation, and water supply. so dont be carried away with your flawed number 5 position. your country is not naturally gifted, the idea of hydro power will have been maintain. it can do alot in curbing or reducing Nairobi constant flooding .....

Your total energy capacity is to less than 1400 megawatt , that is less than what greater Accra alone consume..You stupidly don't know meters are connected based on the expense of the land. why should Ghana have more meters connected than kenya ? when kenya is like two times of Ghana by land size . it is very interesting to note that your power seftor had been listed on your national stock exchange.

Your power has been reeling under high debt for the past three years, a move that saw (KenGen) slap kenya power with Sh1 billion penalty for defaulting part of Sh 112 billion payments last year. Apart from Kengen, syndicated loans from ""Standard Chartered Bank (Sh50.4 billion), Rand Merchant Bank (Sh7 billion), Stanbic Bank (Sh1.1 billion) and Agence Francaise de Development (Sh1.1 billion) are haunting the power agency’s financial muscle. and this in essence has been forcing the kenya power to put some part of Nairobi in darkness. particularly the large populated slums area .... you can't run from it. the continuations of this darkness will sarbortage your economy and made you run back to China for more loans....

And it might interest you, Ghana mining sector is not power consuming like that of south africa

An idiot like you would have seen flaws in your faulty reason and stupidly come into conclusion you are having a challenge. if your power generated company can be this debt ridden like your own goverment , then something should naturally tell you , your energy is in crisis just like your economy. This is a fact that Nairobi slums are practically in darkness as I speak now. I mean the largest part that make your forsaken country capital.

Your rapid idea to welcome wind power is the absence of natural gift. ""water"" that is not so much available in your backward hell, even America knows fully well, hydro power still remain a safer method of generating electricity , your ability to have wind power is the inability of your country to generate enough rain fall naturally ... The maximum energy that could be tapped from Ghana's available wind resource for electricity is estimated to be about 500 – 600 GWh/year... You can see our energy sector is well diversified. our nuclear reactor too is working .... and be commercialised soon.

is that the same country you stupildily compare with your debt ridden electricity? our energy capacity is more than 5000 megawatt . and stop lying , you generated less bellow 1600 megawatt . your dream of generation 3000 megawatt was achieved in Ghana 10 years ago ....

The best result Asia has achieved at the world cup was a 4th place finish by Korea at the 2002 world cup through fraudulent means.. that's a well known fact. Aside that, no other Asia country has finished beyond the round of 16.
North America had a 3rd place finish courtesy of the United States in the very first edition of the tournament several decades ago..
And Africa has reached the world cup quarter final 3 times not 2.. Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana.. Ghana could have made it to the semis if not for Suarez...

I say again, "because your country is shit at football doesn't mean you should drag the whole continent down"..
Ghana is ranked 47th.....so they are sh1t.

You're still singing about Akosombo dam that was built in 1950s and has literally bankrupted your country since. I told you officially filled for bankruptcy in 1960s and send away Kwame Nkrumah to Guinea - invited IMF to rule you - a job they'v been doing ever since - with a few "summer" breaks.

We are talking about now - 2020. You quote very old data.

In 2020 - Ghana just emerged from IMF bailout that was partially blamed on energy/electricity crisis. What was the fix. You basically invited BIG GENERATORS of the world - signed a take or pay - and you of course got 5000MW. You consume about half of that. Leaving a whopping 2000MW idle. The Generators Companies - are making a lot of money - 1B dollars - without ever turning on their generators.

It's the reason Ghana is a butt of joke - Nigeria knows this better. We have found out why.

Now tell you what - Kenya has main grid electricity of 3000MW - our standby generators (owned by institutions) is more than double that - but we have so rare blackout. We could count those generators and say kenya has 10,000MW installed capacity.

in As much as you might want to polish Ghana negatively or compare your China indebted ridden colony to her, the fact on ground will still not make it sound ....

it doesn't matter when the plant was build, having such idea way back 50 years shows Ghana was thinking ahead. America hydro power dam is 80 years old now and still remain the largest source of power to the Americans .

GHANA has been a prosperous country from independence , you might easily be mislead not to know, that is when gold was the principal backup of world reserve not dollar. but on the other hand, kenya have been a poverty ridden nation right from begining of a republic kenya . from being a food and water starving nation to the recent age of locusts consuming your most productive farms . your treasure minister that was sacked last year for the award of two invincible dam that never took shape admitted your country is dead broke ..

just last week , moody rating agency that lower your rating to B2 stable just upgraded that of Ghana to be B3 positive. that is efficiency and sound management . even with China continuous loan, you failed to progressed. what a shame.

that data still portray what is still on ground in your forsaken hell. and hell no, you have less than 1700 MW at peak and that is just what greater Accra consume . stop mouth piecing , world bank already placed your peak at 1700 mw form an installed capacity of 2600 MW.

Apart from billions of shilling your power company is owning kenyaGEN. the same company still owned several syndicate loans that is the problem. it is either your goverment increase the tariff or forced to borrowed more just like she is doing from her new colony "" China"" your power sector is already in the pipeline of increasing your tariff. the proposal is with your energy and petroleum commission.

Elephant and rhino populations in Tanzania have begun to rebound after a government crackdown dismantled organised criminal networks involved in industrial-scale poaching, the country's presidency said.

A prominent Chinese businesswoman, dubbed the "Ivory Queen", was sentenced to 15 years in prison by a Tanzanian court in February for smuggling tusks of more than 350 elephants to Asia, marking a major victory for the government.

"As a result of the work of a special task force launched in 2016 to fight wildlife poaching, elephant populations have increased from 43,330 in 2014 to over 60,000 presently," the presidency said in a statement late on Tuesday.

The number of rhinos, an endangered species, had increased from just 15 to 167 over the past four years, it said.

The elephant population in Tanzania, famed for its wildlife reserves, shrank from 110,000 in 2009 to little more than 43,000 in 2014, according to a 2015 census, with conservation groups blaming rampant poaching.

Demand for ivory from Asian countries such as China and Vietnam, where it is turned into jewels and ornaments, has led to a surge in poaching across Africa.

In the last decade alone, Africa lost about 110,000 elephants, with an estimated 415,000 elephants still living on the continent, according to the World Wide Fund for Nature.

Tourism is the main source of hard currency in Tanzania, which is renowned for its wildlife safaris, Indian Ocean beaches and Mount Kilimanjaro.

The presidency said revenues from tourism were $2.5bn last year, up from $1.9bn in 2015.

It said Tanzania had set aside 32 percent of its total land area for conservation activities and dismissed criticism from environmentalists about a three-billion-dollar hydropower dam project in the Selous Game Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Tanzania Anti-Poaching Task Force Helps Elephant And Rhino Populations Increase
by Luana SteffenOctober 24, 2019

Worldwide, elephants and rhinos are classified as vulnerable and endangered. However, in Tanzania, both animals’ populations are increasing significantly. All thanks to a task force Tanzania formed to combat wildlife poaching.

Populations Rising
The government of Tanzania has declared the official numbers of the rising population of the elephants and rhinos. Since 2014 elephants have increased in population from 43,330 to over 60,000. Since 2015 rhinos have increased from only 15 to 167.

Elephants in Tanzania
Credit: Gary Bembridge
Sky News reported a statement from the country’s government about the figures prior to 2014. In 2009, the official number of elephants in Tanzania was 110,000 but by 2014, poachers killed off more than half of the population.

The President’s office claims that in 2015 the rhino population was just 15 rhinos. That’s a very low number. However, the Independent reported that the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) had a different number. CITES documented the rhino population was at 133 rhinos at that time. Either way, the rhino population is slowly increasing nonetheless. This is good.

What Is Poaching?
In 2016 Tanzania formed a task force to combat wildlife poaching. This task force is the reason why the populations of these animals are rising.

Wildlife poaching is the illegal killing of wild animals. Elephants are typically poached for their ivory tusks but sometimes their bodies are used for meat. Ivory tusks are used for jewelry or decor. While rhinos are poached for their horns. Rhino horns are used for Chinese medicine and as a status symbol. Additionally, sometimes there are the “trophy hunters,” which is when the hunter takes a proud photo next to the corpse then cuts the head off the poor animal and hangs it on their wall for display.

Rhino poaching in Africa
Image from Africa Trophy Hunting
Al Jazeera explained that well-organized poaching networks in Tanzania even managed to push these animals to an industrial scale in the last few decades. This forced the government to double down on regulating this practice which was already illegal. One way the government did so was by arresting major kingpins of the trade.

The Ivory Queen
According to NPR, one of the big arrests was the infamous Chinese ivory trafficker that goes by the name of the “Ivory Queen.” The Ivory Queen was a major link between poachers in East African countries (including Tanzania) and ivory purchasers in China for more than a decade. Between 2000 and 2004 alone, she was responsible for smuggling over 800 pieces of Ivory to China. The Tanzanian government gave her a 15-year jail sentence.

Protection Awareness
Even with the elephants and rhino populations rising, Mark Jones, leader of Born Free Foundation, is far-sighted. He is happy with the government’s figures but takes them with a pinch of salt. Jones believes there is still much work to be done to properly protect the rhinos and elephants in Tanzania.

Jones explains:

This sounds like very good news but we should view these figures with caution until there’s independent verification – there’s no way that has occurred through breeding and protection alone. [Rhinos] mature late, have long gestation periods and don’t produce many young. Both species take a long time biologically to reproduce. Elephants are intelligent — they move across national borders to where they are safer, so if there’s been a clampdown on poaching in Tanzania, it may be that some have moved in.

However, the government’s efforts should be acknowledged. Every newborn of majestic creatures is now getting extra protection due to these efforts. Hopefully, elephant and rhino populations in Tanzania will continue to rise.

Whaooo never expect it this big....

one region one industrial park to be unfold in Ghana

Government has announced the allocation of 79 million dollars towards the implementation of the one region one park initiative.

The parks will provide dedicated land space with energy, water and telecommunications facilities for the establishment of manufacturing industries.

Speaking at the 2019 CIMAF Customer Dinner Awards, a Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Carlos Ahenkorah, said this will enhance private sector growth.

“The president has given us about US$79 million for the Trade Ministry to embark on the one region, one park project under our industrialization drive. We are going to have enclaves in all the regional capitals where investors can come in and put up their factories or plants and commence production straight away,” Ahenkorah stated.

The guiding principle of this project, he stated, is to promote and strengthen a growth model that is conducive to economic transformation to achieve higher rates of investment and productivity growth across the economy, especially in non-resource-based sectors.

The amount allocated is part of a new World Bank project known as Ghana Economic Transformation Project (GETP) for the development of Ghana’s industrial landscape.

Note there are currently 10 regions in Ghana with addition of new 6 region . making it sixteen region. ...

This mudder fugger is talking like a damn fvcking ediot! You want me to tell you about Kenya? cool

Mkenya2019:

Kenya beat Ghana in Kenya? So what happened in the Accra game? Did Kenya qualify? Very stvpid people, kenyans grin by the way, has Kenya ever qualified for any FIFA world cup?

TayserMahri:

Im not talking down anyone. If its not easy for African countries to make it to the round of 16 then the word perfection should not be anywhere in your dictionary. Vaxx claimed some countries like Ghana have perfected football, lol. The same Ghana Kenya beat without training.

Ghanaians will soon call on their FA to appoint a foreign coach. Are you a Ghanaian?

Danielnino00:

In 2013, Nigeria had Stephen Keshi as the super eagles coach, John Obuh as u-20 coach, Manu Garba as u-17 coach and Edwin Okon as women national team coach.. But it's really nothing special.. a lot of African teams have had local coaches managing all their national teams.

In fact, the senior national team is the only one that most countries both within and outside Africa often bother to appoint foreign coaches for.. the cadet team and women team are left for local coaches..
Ghana isn't the first country to do that...

Anyway, its really nothing special.. Ghanaians will soon call on their FA to appoint a foreign coach....

I disagree - in most of other sector - south africa is indeed far ahead - but in tech sector - it's not far off from Kenya.
Go look at any innovation index..... You'll see SA far ahead of any African country
