hammerU:. The existing seaports in the South South are they been utilized at all? That should be the question and not building new ones that will not be used at the end of the day, it will be a waste of scarce resources that should have been used to take care of other sectors of the economy that need dire attention. 1 Like 1 Share |

hammerU:Your land? Lol Do you or I own any land? Your south south ie your "land", of what benefit has it been to you. Oh tell me that every evening you take a tanker to an oil well and fill it with crude oil to go and sell abi? Or the sea port you can ship your car in without paying duty or shipping charges as it is in "your land". Seaport that aboki will be placed in charge of. SMH |

Fake news......approves two new seaport when there are already existing ports....another way to delay the development of the region. Before they will pass budget and start all project formalities and get bogged down in one funny community issue that would now be said to have made the new port not to take off. Logical thing to do is to. 1. Dredge the channels to Warri Port, Onne and Port Harcourt Ports etc and get them active by reparing/improving facilities. Remove the monopolistic concessionair agreements which charge super exorbitant prices. 2. Unblock all the fake FG bottlenecks making it impossible for full operation of Tinapa - the free trade zone at Calabar. E.g the lack of approval to process imports and stamp entry visas etc. 3. Pass a law that would allocate a percentage of imports to al the ports...or a category of imports. For example we should have a law that makes it mandatory for 20% of imports to pass through Onne Ports for instance or for all textile products to pass through a specific ports. 4. Take back Sapele port from the Navy who are doing nothing with it and let it be a Port. Item 1 - 4 above are easy to achieve...infact some can be achieved overnight and with little cost or effort. |

Yankee101:do you think Lagos state and Yoruba land is benefiting from that port Some of you are ignorant on the Federal government revenue system. The NPA generates revenue thru Lagos seaport and take the money down to Abuja without reinventing it back into the Lagos economy, Fulanis now takes the lion share. Go and see the road of Apapa Wharf that's generating stupendous money to the Federal government account very bad road. We Yorubas wants to control our port. We need the Fulanis and NPA to hands off. 1 Like |

Tomide007: Illiterates dont know. Moreover, building ports in other places is always celebrated negatively by some folks who think Yorubas are responsible for their underdevelopment. There are several airports in Nigeria, how has it impacted negatively on the airport in Ikeja? Clannish thinking! Before the unscrupulous elements truncated democracy in 1966, Western region was far ahead of the other regions despite being in opposition. All the industrial estates in Lagos today were established by the Western region (Ikeja, Ilupeju among others). Nigeria dragged Western region, the land of the Yorubas backward, before now despite not being part of the government at the centre, we were competing in Africa! If you doubt me go and check some of those first this, first that, it must be the great Yoruba people. Man pass man no be by size 4 Likes 1 Share |

They have upgraded the deception and delusion of the "south south" in their usual tactics of divide and rule game. Now, the gullible ones there will be shouting "one Nigeria". The project is mere smokescreen. Never to be completed nor functional. Na today? |

They won't do nothing. Just trying to give people of.ss hope. It's a very tribal oriented goverment. The socio economic imbalance leads to a socio political superiority on the side it favours. He who controls the economy controls the politics. And he who controls the politics controls the economy. It simple. Itso a deliberate act. Lagos is congested,.but there is no figuring out how to spread the cargos to the other ports. It's so nasa scientific. Thermal, astro, nuclear physics. If they want to do the right thing they would dredge. But I guess telling the people there is a new one in the works makes them "look busy" |

hammerU: It is so easy to predict that someone would soon tell you that GEJ did not do this or that which makes me wonder whether stories like these are mainly designed for propaganda purposes. GEJ attempted to do a lot of STRATEGIC projects for the south south region amidst one of the one opposed and vilified Presidency in Nigeria...but the same factors that have held the region down prevailed. I give a few instances below; GEJ approved Onne as the official seaport for all oil related equipment and materials which PMB changed back to Lagos...... few items still come in through Onne Also GEJ approved the multi billion Naira logistic handling Port at Agge and some preliminary works were commenced .....but PMB again changed it back to Lagos which is the LADOL you hear about. It is raking in Billions in revenue and income presently. Some major vessels are doing their drydocking there. Again GEJ set off the maritime university at Okerenkoko Delta State.....the school as part of its facilities was to host the biggest dockyard in the African sub region which would have attracted large vessels for dry dock, many new skills and improved the economy of the area. PMB has now vetoed or cancelled the Maritime University in Delta. Again the Lagos - Calabar Coastal Railway project was proposed as a PPP project with the Chinese, and all the paperwork had been completed for the take-off.....once again PMB cancelled despite the fact that the FG was not to pay much of the cost for the project. Today that project is on voice mail. The East West Road witnessed the most accelerated construction during the GEJ era which brought it about 70% completion in spite of the terrible challenges of terrain, budget and detractors. Under PMB the East-West Road has been abandoned completely. No work for 4 years now!!!!! The list goes on and on...the problem of the Niger Delta is not internal...it is externally induced....otherwise tell me why Tinapa cannot work as a free trade zone |
Re: FG Approves Two New Seaports In South-South by jamesversion: 5:08pm On Feb 11, 2020 |
jneutron4000: Yes, Lagos and by extension Yorubaland are benefiting immensely from the port in Lagos. Forget about revenue coming directly from the port and consider all other economic benefits acruable to Lagos as a result of it being the location of a port. The importer who travels from say PH to Lagos to clear his goods will stay in a hotel, will eat food, will pay transport to and fro within his stay in Lagos before going back to PH. A company who usually import raw materials through Lagos port will consider setting up shop in Lagos to save cost/risk of long haulage to say PH. Clearing agents, forwarders et al will reside in Lagos, and do business within the locality, improving the economy of Lagos. NPA staff and other FG agencies affiliated to Ports/Shipping will reside in Lagos, send their kids to schools, open business for themselves or other family members and ultimately improve the Lagos economy. So please, tell your bullshit to an idiot. 2 Likes |

hammerU:I know people like u will not have any business with this sea port even if is in ur backyard, the eastern region will make more use of it not minding where is located, so long is the old eastern region. No hating man is a waste of resources to build new port when we can maintain the old one at a cheaper rate. |
