Awol1: None of my business about new or old. Its democracy, so people are either for new or for old. Since GEJ was brought to the mention then I am interested to know why he didn't solve any of those problems as being defended. Doesn't make sense! |

Awol1: And GEJ and 16 years of PDP couldn't do all that even though the folks in the SE and SS are their main supporters? Only fools sits in office for 16 years and let all his ports rot away without maintaining them or even building news ones. I know very much how your kind hate people who are actually doing something while supporting the useless people that did not do anything for you.. You did not make any sense apart from letting us know how you supported 16 years wickedness and incompetence. |

jneutron4000: You seem not to understand what an economy is and how it comes about. Economy simply is the total economic activities that takes places within a specified area. And the location of Nigeria's most important ports in Lagos is a plus on the overall economic activities of Lagos. Wether you accept or not, the influx of hundreds of thousands of people (if not millions) yearly to the ports in Lagos and the value they add to the Lagos economy cannot be overstated. If say Rivers for example had half the influx of people from everywhere in Nigeria to spend at least 3days going about economic activities, it will surely reflect on our indices. Building a port is not something that is exclusive. Any state in Nigeria with access to sea can conveniently locate a port. Lagos is just fortunate to benefit from the lopsidedness if the Nigerian state. You and your likeminds in the SWest should disabuse your minds of any plan to bomb NPA cos the Ships will only be redirected to either Rivers, Delta or Calabar. Nothing special in Lagos. Please leave bragging of bombings for those that actually have the bragging rights, ie the Nigerian Deltans that own crude oil. |
Re: FG Approves Two New Seaports In South-South by NGpatriot: 10:17pm On Feb 11, 2020 |
jamesversion: Yes, there's congestion in Lagos on top of the bad roads leading into and out of the ports which previous administrations failed to correct, including 16 years of PDP, but the current administration is addressing these challenges with a major concrete road and rail access from the port to the rest of Nigeria. Sorry to tell you, the solution regarding the port situation in Nigeria is right there in Lagos state for obvious reasons, Lekki deep seaport which is the best, the deepest and modern port in West Africa is only 2-3 years away from completion to decongest the port in Apapa so you are sadly mistaken if you think ports outside Lagos are capable of diverting commerce and economic activities away from Lagos just because of new ports in the SS. The next massive economic zone in Nigeria is Lekki in Lagos so can the ports in the SS receive or evacuate the good. No. The ports in the SS are doing better today with more ships heading there, this is not happening by accident, it's because the current administration is doing what the previous ones refused to do for decades. PDP/Jona sat in office for 16 years and we did not hear anything about new ports in the SS, no approval even though the governors were PDP governors, they even let the old ones rot away. |

NGpatriot: The details on the proposed Bonny seaport is still sketchy but surely Bonny island is literally in the Atlantic ocean, so natural depth and whatever shouldn't be a concern. Rivers isn't any backwater state in Nigeria. Rivers is a bonafide oil&gas state and with the proper tweaking should hold her place as the No. 1 state in Nigeria. So whatever oil&gas infrastructures being built in Lagos isn't a concern especially given that Lagos isn't a true oil bearing state. They only have online oil deposits. Let the right and proper things be done in Nigeria and everyone will know where they truly stand. |
Re: FG Approves Two New Seaports In South-South by NGpatriot: 11:07pm On Feb 11, 2020 |
jamesversion: Lagos is definitely not trying to claim any oil and gas supremacy over any oil producing state and Dangote regardless of where they source their oil from is still going to be bought @ world oil market rate. Lagos's advantage remains non oil related commerce, population, market strength and buying power of the consumers in Lagos and the SW in general which other states lack. We need to stop playing tribalism because we are not responsible for what transpired even before Nigeria was created. The ports in Lagos state were not built by Yoruba people or Hausa people, other people made that decision, we inherited the ports from our colonial master so where is the sense in dissing the SW or blaming the FG for what they did not do? It is what it is so lets deal with our current realities, fact is, for decades since independence, the FG did not pay attention to our ports and they did not approve or build new ports, they did not even try inland ports. A lot of people in this thread sat quietly and look the other way for 16 years, they didn't care about any seaport, they did not say a word, but now all of a sudden they remember seaports, they want to play politics and tribalism by jumping all over the place to assign blame. |
Re: FG Approves Two New Seaports In South-South by jamesversion: 11:19pm On Feb 11, 2020 |
NGpatriot: I'm not a tribalist, so I don't know why your admonishing on tribalism. Let the FG build ports in Bonny, Build in Warri, Lekki, Ibaka and everywhere necessary. No need spending value hours in Lagos waiting for goods to be cleared when Nigeria has extensive coastline. |

I made a general statement, but you introduced SW into the conversation so admonish yourself for the tribal and ignorant comment unless you have info or lintel that SW people are trying to bomb anything. That was a needless tribal comment and a jab. |

The FG can not finance any seaport for any state, it is not their job and they can not do much beyond approval, it is up to the states involved to look for funds from private investors. Approval is just approval, nothing more. |

Awol1:
You obviously don't know anything, some of you just vent based on what you know nothing about instead of asking and get educated with facts and proper understanding. 1. The Eastern seaports the previous administrations neglected and let rot away are coming back to life because of needed FG attention from dredging to good policies so where did you get your stories about not maintaining the ports from? Where 2. You said Onne port is besieged with obsolete equipment which was a lie and your own fabrication, Onne port is the fastest growing port outside of Lagos, the port even reached a significant milestone in 2019 when it successfully berthed the first gearless and largest container vessel (LOA of 265.07metres) to call any Eastern Ports of Nigeria.” 3. Rivers port is also seeing increased activity after years or ZERO activity. 4. The Apapa traffic gridlock was there for 16 years while you, Jona and his gang looked the other way, but today, the road is under construction and it's the longest concrete road and the the best road in Nigeria. Everything you typed = Ignorant rubbish and sad to see that over 300 ignorant people liked your lies and rubbish. |

NGpatriot: Have all there are to be done in these ports been done? Tell yourself the truth and forget about arguing academically, does Rivers need a whole new port instead of pumping that money into making existing ones a world class? It's just like the Port Harcourt international Airport, despite the commissioning of the new airport terminal that was built by Jonathan, would you consider it a wise decision if the govt suggests building new airport in Rivers while the existing one is yearning for infrastructure? Come on na. Must we defend clear mistake? |
