Am sorry for always posting on this group, I am just desperately in need for my family to be together because I have no help, I pray I don't fall into depression regarding this paper process, Anxiety has already kicked in, I just want to be strong for my kids. I am super worried that travel ban will catch up to my husband in Nigeria, his Visa Status is still saying AP and the Consulate Officer didn't take his passport from him. NVC accepted all the documentation that I submitted online for immigrant visa. But he said that Consulate officer took some documents from him and told him that he will hear back from them within 90 days. I can't survive any longer with 3 kids by myself all alone (8 years old and 10 months old twins). It is too much for me to handle. May God help me and give me strength, to take care of my children alone. My only option now is to take the kids to Nigeria that is where all my family is because I can't anymore because I thought this journey was going to come to an end soon. But 90 days and with this travel ban God help me.

Although this thread is for non-immigrant visas. Nevertheless, I sympathize with you ma'am. 90 days is just three months. Be a little bit patient. If you can't then bring your family down with you to Nigeria because i suspect the travel ban is mainly for immigrant visas so your husband might be affected. Make sure you vote for whoever is the democratic flag bearer (Michael Bloomberg preferably) in the upcoming election so that your pains will be alleviated. (This should also apply to every other Nigerian-American on this thread). Ma'am endeavour to also send Valentine messages to your hubby.

It shouldn't be MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN(MAGA) but MAKE AMERICA THE GREATEST

You don't need to expose your foolishness. Sometimes minding ur business can make you look intelligent.

That's why you were denied student visa twice with a salary of 180k. What course do u wanna study with 180k monthly salary? Because you wanna intrude when knowledgable people discuss instead of being attentive.

There were 3 VO's in windows 1, 4 and 6.

VO: Good morning ma'am
ME: Good morning ma'am
VO: Where are you going in the US
ME: New Jersey
VO: How long
ME: 10 days
VO: Purpose of traveling
ME: To shop for my business in Nigeria. I sell Fashion items which I get from the UK, Turkey and Dubai and I travel every 6-8 weeks
VO: I see you didn't use your previous US Visa. Why is that?
ME: I got pregnant shortly after and I stayed back to birth and nurture my baby. (This was the real reason. I didn't do any traveling at all within the 2 years I had my visa)
VO:Are you married
ME: No but I'm engaged and have a son
VO: Do you have any other income?
ME: No
VO: sorry you do not qualify at this time.

I actually make about 2-3m monthly but I pay myself 350,000 as salary which is what I put in the application. Maybe I shouldn't have put 350k in the form

I just came back from the UK last night. Didn't even have enough sleep before rushing out for the interview. I planned to travel to the UK next and travel to the US from there to shop for my business.

Can I reapply from the UK?

Before you consider applying from the UK, you should sit down and try and figure out why you were denied at the embassy today to begin with. It might not be about your income. I think your profile shows you are OK financially.

Why were you denied? We'll take it from here

Yes I can reapply from there. The real question is if I'm allowed to apply from a country I don't live in. I'm not sure if I'll be allowed. Any ideas?

Do you have a residence permit to live in the U.K.? In which country do your fiancé and son reside? In the last 6 months, what percent of your time did you stay in Nigerian vs the U.K. and other countries? Answers to these questions should give you insight into whether you have adequate ties to Nigeria vs UK and if you can apply from the U.K. Could also provide an idea as to why you were denied.

You cannot apply from the UK as a visitor. VOs in the UK are trained to assess applications from people with UK ties. There is no way they will call to confirm your Nigerian bank statement from the UK for example.

If you have ties to the UK, then YES

Yes for women there is no place for detailed work history and income.

But why did you say no to income question. You should have gone into details how big your business is?
Also tell him that you do other business by the side which gives a leser income.
Also add your educational qualification and job experience.
Its a convincing 3 minutes.

you may reapply within six months.
If you dont have leave to remain in the UK.You cannot apply for a visa there.

Sincere apologies. It's definitely deflating.
I think you can apply from the UK based on your status there. Not sure about this. But give it a bit of time, say 3 months, because I think this application will reflect there also.

Somewhere between income and marital status as tie, it seems to be there. Whichever, it's crazy!

Not using the visa especially for birthing in the US should have counted for something for you.

Meanwhile, don't even think of applying from the UK if it's just their visitors visa you are carrying, please, it won't fly nada!

Pretty sorry about the refusal, things keep getting tighter therein at that embassy. Whew!

approved b1/b2. Lagos embassy. and i have to say, I couldn't have done it without this thread.

vo: where are you going to?
me: university name, town, state
vo; what are you going for?
me: i was invited to present a paper at 'university name' at 'conference name'
vo: whats that?
me; i explained the conference in more detail
vo; how long are you going for?
me: 6 days
vo: have you left nigeria before?
me: yes, been to a few countries in europe. spain, netherlands, italy. ive been across africa, morocco, mauritius, etc. I love to travel
vo: what do you do?
me; i work as a consultant on XYZ project
vo: how much do you earn
me; 850k a month
vo: are you married?
me: no
vo: any kids?
me: no
vo: tell me about your paper
me: i ramble for about 30 seconds. (he is nodding his head as if its enough abeg)
vo: i'm going to approve your visa.... (hands over pink slip)

observations/advice:
1. i wasn't asked for any documents. in my application as I was going for a conference, i selected only B1 ( i got that tip from here)
2. i prepared my questions and answers and rehearsed (nairaland tip). even yesterday i read the thread and saw a lady answered her question immediately with the name of the course, venue, state. so i updated my answers so my response will be concise (another tip from here)
3. i didnt hesitate with my answers (the benefit of rehearsing) . too many people were saying 'ehn?', meanwhile me far away could hear the questions
3. don't ramble. be confident. don't lie on your application. i've been refused over 10yrs ago and even though i didnt do biometrics, I mentioned it. (nairaland tip) LIES WILL MAKE YOU NERVOUS.
4. don't engage in chatchat with people. all that 'naija is bad/they arent giving visa's etc etc. it ruins your energy. be silent and focus on why you are there (my personal advice)
5. they were approving and refusing people. the vo i met refused a lady for student visa because the course date was in the past. he advised her to get a new i20 from the uni. he refused a mama who couldn't explain what she did there her last visit for 2mths. they aren't demons. they have their reasons for either refusals or approvals.

Good luck to all. I hope this helps.

Did you pay for the conference before the interview?
