Only a foolish man will believe anything from a PDP stooge like the OP. The only thing needed to reconcile all the name from the document the OP listed is a sworn affidavit from any law court in Nigeria so how is that a problem worth nullifying a gubernatorial election over ?

Let's leave out politics in all these...do you honestly believe these names refer to one and the same person? Put in another way...you're an employer and a candidate comes with those variations in his credentials, would you trust and employ him even if he came with affidavits to match?

Whatever political party we support, it was a foolish, daft, and unforgivable mistake or deliberate fraud on the part of Degi (or whatever variant of his 5 names anyone may choose) to have changed his name several times without going through the legal means.

The moral of this sad fate of an innocent David Lyon is that fraud and impunity has expiry dates! It serves Degu right, but, I truly feel pity for David Lyon. It's like being killed by a mate. Tragic!

Degi is currently a Bayelsa Senator, so, how did INEC allow him stand for elections?

It's also a lesson to political parties to ALWAYS screen their candidates thoroughly. How did the Legal Department of APC (with Barrister Ogala as Legal Adviser) allow Deri's serial name changes go without legal ratification?

Changing names is not a crime, but the person who seeks to do so must do it legally.

I cannot blame the Supreme Court for this ruling.

Unfortunately for Lyon, Degi will return to his Senate seat, considering that a by-election to replace him has not been held. And the fool who caused this will continue his looting and David Lyon who actually won the election is left with nothing!

Cruel fate!

anybody can change his name anytime legally.

My friend, the law talks about deliberately giving false information or forgery,to be disqualified.

This is very much different from the scenario you had painted, which implies conflicting information.

Conflicting information is not the same as false information.

An affidavit would suffice to correct conflicting information.

Then why didnt he do the Affidavit.

You Nigerians are just a true reflection of the government you have.

Go apply for admission and present Neco, WAEC, Jamb with the 3 bearing different names and see who gives you admission with such conflicting names on your credentials. Even a job, nobody gives you job with your Bsc, MSC and PhD certs bearing different names.

You can't do well in Law if you aren't logical.

The Bedrock of LAW is Logic bro.

This is not the case of certificate forgery.
The names may all be his but the reckless change of name cost him this.

This Supreme court decision is laughable and a mockery of the judiciary. The man at the top of the ticket is not the issue but his running mate, so you have to punish him for someone else's offense, how about INEC, don't they verify all the shitty documents they submit to them to prove qualification?. Why not just disqualify the the running mate and have the winner pick someone else. This is usurping the mandate of the people, they voted for the Governor for crying out loud. I was not surprised when Justice Odili was mentioned, it is the same way he gave the judgment to Wike. You guys may be divide along party line, but the real issue here is that your judiciary is a joke. Whomever has the money to bribe judges win election cases now.

Yet they failed to disqualify Buhari on his WAEC results?

How can they disqualify a sitting president who appointed the Chief Justice of Nigeria

In as much as I am also against what happened, the supreme court didn't outrightly nullify their victory but more or less upheld the rulings of both the federal high court and the appeal court. So it's not a fresh judgement.
He has been failing all the way from federal High Court

Read your comment again, you said legally i.e by swearing affidavit or newspaper publication.
The question is did he do any of these?

This APC and forgery are like 5&6. They should always do due diligent during their screening exercises before the forward names to INEC.

I blame APC as a party solely for this, they should've vetted their candidates properly before presenting them for any election. How can one man bear different names. Samething happened to late former Senate President Evan Enwereme ...in contention was the name 'Evan' while in his certificate it was Evans.

chrisxxx:
These are the different names traceable to the APC Deputy Governor in Bayelsa that led to Supreme Court disqualification of the governor.
He bore these names at different stages of his life.

Mr Degi-Eremienyo’s name was written as Degi Biobara in his primary school certificate.
The documents from his secondary education bore Adegi Biobarakumo, as his name.
While that of his university education had Degi Biobarakuma as his name.

Also his MBA certificate had Degi Biobarakuma Wangaha as the name of the same person.
As the Deputy Governor-Elect he bore
Mr Degi-Eremienyo.

He might have been a victim of this "No bride price, no father's surname" syndrome.
Some people find it embarrassing doing change of names publicly, cos it's like you have paternity scandal or your acclaimed father is disowning you.
