Hello Nairalander,

Pls help me out on this, since Wednesday we have been denied US visa, my only daughter of eight years has been crying and refuse to eat. I promised her that she will go and visit my sister children this coming break which they use to speaks on phone every week.

But it was so unfortunate that we were denied visa to the US even as a family and immediately I told her that we were not granted the visa, she started crying and weeping seriously. All what she is saying is I want to go and see (so so boy). Even in the middle of the night she wake me up and mentioned that name.

I noticed she has told some of her friends in school that she will soon go and visit my Sister in American, because some of them use to travel to US and UK too.

I have promise her that I will take her to US, and I think I have failed her with my promise. Pls what can I do to please her so that she will not crying again.

Kindly assist because I don't want her to sick and kill her moral in the school so that she will not look inferior from her friend in school.

Thank you.

You will have to improvise

She is your daughter and you know what she wants and the place she really love to go

Take her for a trip out your state

Well I don't know her age

But I understand that she needs a thrill worth telling to her friends

I can't make any suggestions specifically because I don't know you that well

She was three years old when my sister travel. So she know she was travel because we took her to airport together.

Like I said you have to improvise

Face the fact that you aren't getting the visa immediately

I'll suggest you and your husband as a family take Saturday - Sunday visit a friend who has children of her age mate and then take her to the beach, as a big family

I would have suggested amusement parks or eatery but its so boring,

From the beach you can go to a game shop and have some fun,

I hope that should cheer her a little bit up

But make her be around her peers more often not just watching TV

Sorry dear! Simply let her know it's not your fault and that you may reapply later

If your sister has the fund, you can all travel to a neutral zone. E.g. Dubai. Your family and your sister's family from the states can meet there for holidays.

Sometimes we over pamper our children not knowing that we are poorly preparing them for the harsh reality of adulthood.

Teach your daughter to be strong. Teach her that life is full of disappointments (because this will not be the only disappointments that she will have to face growing up) but that you will try again and you will succeed. It is your responsibility to nurture her into a strong woman and build up a strong mentality in her to help her overcome future challenges.

Don't underestimate the impact of a consistent 5 minutes session of parental pep talk in the life of a young mind. Take her out for fun, make her happy and let her understand that these things happen.

Good luck.

That's quite unreasonable. The sister should abandon her life and duties abroad and bundle bundle her children home simply because "his daughter is crying " grin

Also it came to my mind now

If this is too expensive or time consuming for you

Set up a meet for your daughter with a family friend or your friend that she doesn't see often

Tell her Someone want to speak with her and let the person be very jovial and promise to come over the house tomorrow with a gift for her, and the gift could be a pet(puppy) or something of your choice and then you all can go out together to any place of fun close by but let it not be a fast food

Like i said fast food are boring for kids meant for a date

Lol. Well our upbringing is different sha.. this is some “ajebo-ish” questions.. I suggest you calmly explain to her how life is generally. Life is tough and there are somethings you don’t have a control of. Take her for some quick trips where her peers can be found to have fun... distract her attention cheerfully and tell your sister not to call for a week or two.. I bet she’ll forget about this..

He doesn't need to physically go to the embassy. He can type the cry on a document and scan it to the embassy for faster response grin

Thanks for your correction Mr Wolesoyinka, n
but nobody above mistake,
I had a deep sense of remorse because you called me by the name of my Role model — Prof. WS— and I will cross mountains to meet him.

Now, let's talk about your daughter. Apart from the fact that she doesn't want to feel inferior amongst her peers, she's also having a nostalgia.
It's nothing to worry about. Just talk to her, make her happy and promise to take her later after she comes out with good grades.......
With age, she will get over it

Yes, this is a very good suggestion.

OP, you should try and follow this suggestion for your daughter's sake.

The mistake u made is raising her hopes high.
Maybe, when she talk with your people on phone, she is always promised that she will come over, when processing visa, u wouldn't have let her knew so she won't take it so bad.

She will forget it as time goes on. Also, u, your sister and family should stop raising her hope high and allow her to be a kid.

Next time, don't be so forward.

U handle children with care cos they are very sensitive

Thought Nigeria was a Visa ban to USA? Which kinda Nigerian will still apply for US visa in the last 2years?. Never give up, you can still apply for Canadian visa after you recover from the heartbreak.

Talk to her like a father
You can go with her to Dubai and spend 1week, visa , flight ticket and accommodation will not cost more than 500k for both of you

Or you can go to East Africa ( Kenya, Rewanda, Uganda ) with East African visa
Very easy to get, spend 1week
Accommodation, visa and flight ticket will cost 500k

Use the opportunity to disvirgin her passport and build your traveling profile.
To try Canada , and once you get Canada
USA will be easy

The truth is , if you try USA again now
Na still rejection. All they need now is your visa application fees.
This Ban will continue to affect Nigeria
