At 150,000 NGN the place is affordable enough for me to bear if noise is the only challenge one has to face. If the noise stops me from enjoying TV, however, I’m off without a second thought.

You didn't do your proper research before renting the place.

Years ago I wanted to get one. The building was okay and met my taste but I ran for my life when I noticed there was a welder shop just next to the compound. I hate noise . I love a quiet, peaceful and boring environment.

I don't know why u pple like to disturb person with small small shildren matter, getting a refund no hard naa, tell your landlord... If na landlord wey chop remain, fine... You get it immediately, if na d one wey buhari regime affect, e mean say you go wait make new tenant come be that... But note that you have to move out first before any refund process go start... But if you no get spare momey for new apartment, i will advise you to go and buy earphone abi na earpiece una dey call am... Sorry ooo, pele

First, don't sublet your apartment as some posters above are suggesting.

Talk to your agent/landlord about it, but don't mention your genuine reason, maybe you tell them urgent transfer from work or traveling for a course.

Mind you, agreement, commission and damages won't be refunded.

What are they grinding at 4am? Are they mad? Just make sure you talk to them not to open their business till at least 7am. Sorry for your experience. This is why I advice to visit a house you want to rent in the early morning, midday and at night before settling. To assess the area

Please file a report with LASEMA and they will take the necessary action. Grinding machines should be in the markets and not residential areas.

My brother......I got posted to Lagos on my job. The apartment was peaceful at first, then new neighbours moved in. Very noisome lot!

Well, to cut a long story short, I'm currently on drugs for high blood pressure due to stress and lack of rest. I couldn't sleep both in the day and night.

I understand Lagos stress could have added to it, though.

I'm one of those very susceptible to noise. I once developed ulcer because a roommate on campus wouldn't turn down the volume on his sound system.

I'm in a similar situation. I'm barely two months in my apartment. One of my neighbors who is a pastor or whatever wakes everyone up at 1am every morning with his weird kind of prayer. He screams at the top of his voice for like 2 or 3 hours every night. Getting a refund in this hard times is not going to be easy.
But I will speak with the landlord about it.

Tell the agents/owner. They may really help faster than you could imagine. Just tell the reason and tell them that you're willing to forgo agreement, commission, (damages). That will propel them to look for another potential tenants ASAP knowing that they have opportunity to collect another commission and other stuffs
