He tried though, but most of us know that 2020 would be tough ... I even preach it. However, NSE would have survived first quarter if not this corona virus, which no one knew was coming.

Corona virus will likely push Nigeria stocks further to southern pole this new week irrespective of good dividends on the ground, as Brent crude oil remains below $50, and Dow seriously losing, foreign investors will be bailing out around the world to get ready for investment opportunity in USA, and other strong economy like China and Japan that are really affected by this dangerous virus. When ever the world economic will improve, those country with strong economic will pick first, because of that investors preferred them first.

But local investors has nothing to lose, only momentarily paper lose , because after the current falling in price, stock will pick again and will still rise above the current price. If one still have cash to invest, it will be good for him to wait a little, because there will likely be further stock falling in price within the first week of March. But if one lack patience to wait, he can buy more.

This is the time to buy more. grin

Reading from the side line, I can not help but laugh at some input from certain analysts and investors alike. grin grin grin
Its almost natural that in times like these, u tend to see 3 categories of investors;

1) Those who would look to exaggerate RISK by spreading the FEAR gospel, so they can get assets at a cheap in their quest to time the market.
2) Those who would be infested by the 1st group and become so engrossed with too many extrapolations that they end up missing out on some clear opportunities.
AND
3) Those who can manage to alienate FEAR from RISK, avoid timing the market and shrewdly seek REWARD by tapping from any great opportunity in between.......

You said it all. I read, and laughed at the panic in the atmosphere grin

By portfolio is down too, since I failed to sell at the top of the last rally. But I know this happens every now and then. Since the money is not needed, I let it roll. If it goes down further to irresistible level, I will load more.

Everybody calm down biko.

Oil could break below 53. The next support will be 49.93. Possibly, OPEC+ will come with reassuring words.

Watch that space.

As seen above, Brent even traded at 48.95. grin grin

I expect Brent to push high towards 60 soon.

Fed needs to cut rates. Other central banks will want to support their economies.

I see a short term reversal. But don't get carried away. All na still trap. grin

Yesterday's news of Nigeria's first case of Coronavirus is what has triggered the negative response in the market today.
It's a shame we in this forum did not explore how such a senerio - Nigeria's first case - would affect the market.
We are too reactive in this forum.
In any case considering other exigent situations leading to reduced prices we should contemplate hedging.

In succession, here are 5 very pivotal NUGGETS that most folks have failed to effectively utilize to their advantage;

"A period of BULL in the stock market is like an 'unnecessary party', and a BEAR phase like a 'trade-fair'.
The latter is usually when the manufacturer's of great assets auction a few at sumptuous discounts. ...while the former is that time when some 'expired goods' are sold.
A shrewd investor visits both markets, but knows WHEN and WHAT to buy."
~Sinclair

"There are basically 2 great days in a person's life;
The day u were born, and the day u discover why u were born.
In the Stock market, that 'discovery' is tantamount to knowing why u are where u are, and having a sound reason for been there.
...for if u do not know why u are in the market, then u probably won't know why u should succeed in it."
~Sinclair

"To find out if u can SUCCEED more in the stock market, 1st find out if u have the RIGHT TOOLS that can navigate through the worst of times and which can stand the test of time.
...otherwise, go and 'buy' it."
~Sinclair

"If u desire to WIN more 'open battles' with the stock market, then NEVER work to PLAY AHEAD of it or seek to TIME It.
...work to PLAY ALONG with it and seek to better ur playing STRATEGY.
Unless of course u wish for a far less win than normal."
~Sinclair

"If u plan well ur VISION, u will often times execute ur MISSION. But in between that planning and execution MUST come KNOWLEDGE, STRATEGY and DISERNMENT.
...otherwise u might well be 'a prisoner of war' to the stock market and the intelligent few in it."
~Sinclair

It will come and go. But It is only those with cash that will benefit.

You always laugh at me and asking if I am not a dividend lover anymore. I am still a dividend lover. I get greedy once I get a good DY. Imagine stocks falling and you key in to get a DY of >25%.

What can be more wonderful to see like 25% DY and more.

You don't know the worth of CASH until periods like this.

No matter what happened people must talk.
Honestly speaking no one knows that corona virus will take the whole part of 2020 q1. It's only God that knows it all. Brent crude parking at below $50 was handiwork of corona virus, NSE ASI dropping to 27,000 was handiwork of falling in price of Brent crude and massive drop in the world stocks market. All pointing at corona virus.

Seriously this event has presented bonanza offer, it's only God that know when this bonanza offer will end.
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by Nobody: 1:52pm On Feb 29, 2020
Chibuking81:

You are truly on point. We need God to intervene, imagine the effect of corona virus bringing down the price of crude oil to below $40, which will likely happen soon if more countries shut down their border against affected countries, and if the disease continue spreading to other countries, our country economy will be seriously affected, most state can't be able to pay their workers, meaning that another recession is seriously coming and this will lead to currency devaluation.

Truly we need God intervention. The speed with which investors are dropping their holdings in Nestle and GTB without looking back or thinking about dividend, show sign of great danger in the market.

grin grin
