Welcome to Canada. Give yourself sometime and everywhere go soft, lol
One of the best things I learnt from this thread before leaving Nigeria was bringing my powerbank along with me.
God bless the lady who made that comment here cos I was almost dashing it out. If your phone battery is not too strong and you will be using public transport for a while plus coming in winter, Please bring it along. Put inside bag when going out, e dey help oh. Cold dey hook phone for here wen nor too strong. grin

Also not sure how sound Google map is in Nigeria. Try learning how to use it. God knows I still walk around in circles but I'm alot better than when I first landed. God bless you all

Kids... a girl.and boy, aged 5 and 2... destination Ontario maybe Ottawa or Hamilton... Career in Audit//banking/financial operations

What would be your advise to this scenario
Family of five... PPR in ✋
Who have 70% of their POF at hand (cash) aside flight cost planning to land immediately..
Or delay landing for another five months to get 100% POF

I thought you said family of five? Okay I'll assume number 5 dey belle atm.

Mixed sex so legally need 3 bedroom. That's additional expense. Might also be more difficult to secure initial accommodation.

Young kids so CCB. Additional income.

Elder child has started school. Reduced daycare expense. You can both start work immediately except if number five actually dey belle.

Your careers are only partially regulated, with good opportunities in destination province.

POF is supposed to last 6 months, so let's assume your 70% will last 4 months. We're supposed to have POF so we don't need to do survival (transitional) jobs. If you're willing to do transitional jobs if skilled jobs don't show on time, pleaser pack your bags with your 70%.

By the way some people come with 300% POF and after one year they're still looking for work. Funds will sha still run out. Some come with 10% POF and get job within 2 weeks. Money is important, but there are many more important things e.g knowledge and ability to research, favor, ability to adapt, having a game plan

As per this, some schools, if not all close at 3pm. That is still like 1 to 3 hours of childcare needed for the 5 year old kid. Except one can flex at work.
I guess that's part of the reduced care.

Beautiful Vancouver. Now I understand why people insist on paying through their noses to live there.

Though I was too carried by shock to take pictures of the homeless multitude in East Hastings. It was just like an evening gathering of Almajiri. Na so me and hubby open mouth dey look.

He must have gotten a good job. I'm yet to see gas go higher than 106 in Calgary.

He is still in school. I guess he has faith. I don't blame him Sha. Canada can be somehow. When I moved to Regina too from Calgary, I thought I moved from London to Kiev grin
My first year in Regina was all about plotting on how to move back to Calgary, but madam said she's not going back with me, so I just stay put for here.

Driving a truck with those gas prices though.

Yes boss. It's included. Afterschool care is cheaper, and at 5 one should be comfortable leaving a child at a dayhome. Also in Ontario children start school at 4. 5 year olds in AB are just starting 2½ hour per day KG lol.

I thought you said family of five? Okay I'll assume number 5 dey belle atm. .......Lol... Kinda

Mixed sex so legally need 3 bedroom....... Is this compulsory? Is there a way round it or not?

Young kids so CCB. Additional income. .......Usually around 600 per child monthly yeah?

Elder child has started school. Reduced daycare expense. ......What would be the average cost of the reduced day care? I had always thought the younger child would be around 1k monthly, is this correct too?

If you're willing to do transitional jobs if skilled jobs don't show on time.. .....over willing sef.. person nor dey do shakara for another man country

knowledge and ability to research, favor, ability to adapt, having a game plan....... research dey go on steady.. we pray for God's favour in all

I am really grateful... Kindly assist to comment on the new questions raised.... thanks

Good day house, pls quick question. I have a CRA account that I opened when I applied for the "call agent job last year. Now I am trying to file my tax for the first time. I tried to use the same CRA account created for the job to access my tax documents such as T4's. I tried to login with the detail but as soon as I input my ID, password and also answer my security question, it requests for my SIN. After I inputted the SIN, it immediately bring out an error message. My question is that, Is CRA job account different from that of tax account? How true is it that one must have first filed tax before one can have a CRA account?

I think both accounts are different. One is CRA careers and the other is CRA my account is something like that.

Also you can only open a CRA my account after you've filed your first tax, not before. They won't have your SIN on their system before.

Lastly, CRA my account is currently overloaded and having issues even for those who have account. Solution at the moment is you login with your phone mobile network (i.e. on your phone itself, or hotspotting your computer with your phone).

Please I need your input on some enquiries. My son is 2, my husband and I will likely work as soon as we arrive. Do you have an idea how much daycare or preschool will cost per month?

Daycare costs bary by location. You have to do your own research on this. I only know how much daycare is within 5km from me.

Maximum is 550 for federal. Provinces vary. The more you earn the lower it is. The older the child the lower it is.

Ask Google 'calculate my Canada childcare benefits' it will bring up a govt website where you can do this

Elder child has started school. Reduced daycare expense. ......What would be the average cost of the reduced day care? I had always thought the younger child would be around 1k monthly, is this correct too?

I don't have costs/subsidy details for Ontario

Good evening house.... I'm a civil servant and on verge of completing my Ican exams. And I'm also running a linkage program(bsc top-up) with my hnd certificate. My question is I plan to settle down in Canada soon but i read somewhere on the thread that wes doesn't recognize ican... (Thinking of converting that to Acca though) but its not likely I convert to acca here in Nigeria. My plan is to go there for my masters program not acca conversion.... Now will 3.5 million naira be adequate if I intend staying over for long?? Prompt response will be highly appreciated. Thanks

Well, I can tell you that if you're landing in Ontario, and living in places like the Peel, which comprises of Mississauga and Brampton, or the Halton Region, which comprises of Oakville, Milton and Burlington, you can apply for child care subsidy on condition that both of you are working and your income is below the threshold, or either is schooling while one is working.

I specifically mentioned these two regions because I'm an advocate that people shouldn't talk about Canada, they should only talk about their experiences in where they live or have lived. Stop generalizing. Canada is so big and we are not living in the same Province

Due to influx of Nigerians, Nigerian local food has become cheaper and more available. Some of the new guys are very enterprising and in the business of shipping food from naija/Ontario to one's doorstep.

Picture below is my recent delivery of dried Ijebu ponmo and eja kika (dried fish) neatly packed and delivered by Canada post from Brampton, Toronto cheesy

Last time I ate the eja kika and Ijebu ponmo was on my visit to London, UK last summer.
I posted the comment above on a different thread. For people looking to buy Ijebu ponmo/eja kika or other food items, you can follow 2404foods on instagram. If you live in the GTA area. I think she does drop off as well.

So I made this post December 19 2017, at the time I haven't even gotten a headway convincing my spouse to let us try the process. Nonetheless I kept reading and praying. And just enjoying the comments and learning. I learnt so much from Salford, blackbuddy, vcole, Nogen, maternal, Einsteino, and so many more. Each time I read I showed my spouse your posts and he just shrugged it off. So a week later, like a joke he said he wanted us to pay for WES. I remember it was on Christmas day. I didn't believe it till he brought out his card to pay for us both. And he paid, and that's how everything began. IELTS became a stumbling block at some point, so we took a break. Then I had a baby in April of 2018 and then got a job 2weeks later. I was the happiest person at that point. And then I didn't even bother about the process anymore. I thought I had arrived, my spouse however noticed I had taken a back seat on the whole process. And then he told me, 'trust me 1 year from now you will ask yourself if this is it, and then I really would want to leave naija'. Of course I didn't believe him wink He jokingly kept saying it that I can stay in naija while he goes to Canada with the kids. Since I am 'doing well' I can pay visits to Canada.

To cut the long story short, November of 2018 we wrote IELTS, I for the second time and him for the 4th. And I prayed to God at that point that if Canada was meant for us, this should be the last time we would write. We prepared so well and as God will have it we got the perfect score we needed. We updated our profile December 15th 2018 and got an invitation to Apply December 19th, submitted January 24th 2019 and got PPR May 8 2019

Left Nigeria for Calgary October 29th 2019

It has been a journey I must say, I have been meaning to write this but time has always been the issue. But here I am today, writing this in my bus, on my way to work.

Hmm work, that is another story on its own I hope to take my time to write on. It's been wonderful and I must say dreams do come true if you believe and stay true to the course smiley smiley smiley

Thank you so much to everyone who share their stories. This is me making good on my promise. grin

Salford, Einsteino you may not know me but you've inspired me in many ways. I can literally still remember your posts. Lol it kind of feels like you said them to me directly because I still remember them vividly. Thank you. smiley

The Congo too lol, I like your honesty, not so much for the brutal part of it though lol. But it's great for the most part. Thank you for you smiley

Einsteino too, I love love your write ups. I don't know if you are still on nairaland. You have been an inspiration too. Thank you smiley

Let me stop here. I will try to make my next post soon enough.

I'm sorry if there are any typographical errors.

Thank you all

P.S do not mind the time on the the screenshots, I made it over 2months ago, I just got around to writing this morning grin grin grin
