Economic wise yes West Africa has had a higher average growth and the reason for that is 2 fold, firstly WA is less developed hence typically you'll find higher growth in less developed economies and 2 Souh Africa has a much higher economic impact in SADC(and Africa) hence when the South African economy struggles so does the rest of the SADC countries, When the Nigerian economy struggles it has a less of an impact on its region.
