A trader, Anthony Okolie , has told a Federal High Court in Asaba that upon his arrest , he was informed by the Assistant Director of Operational Services at the Department of State Services , Herbert Ogboli, that the President ’s daughter , Hanan Buhari, ordered his detention .

Okolie , who was arrested for using a telephone line that once belonged to Hanan, further stated that he was released from the custody of the DSS immediately after she asked the DSS to release him .

He , therefore , stated that it was not the Presidency that ordered his arrest but Hanan.
The trader said this in reaction to a counter- affidavit to his originating motion .

The applicant , who was detained by the DSS for 10 weeks , is suing the President ’s daughter , the DSS and MTN for N 500 m over his ordeal .

Okolie denied claims by the DSS that he confessed to using Hanan’s old line , 09035666662, to impersonate her and solicit funds from unsuspecting members of the public.

He said, “ I was detained by officers of the first respondent ( DSS ) at Asaba , Delta State , and later transferred for further detention at the first respondent’ s headquarters in Abuja for 10 weeks between July 22 and September 23 , 2019.

“ That on my day of release on September 23 , 2019 , Herbert Ogboli , officer of the first respondent, also known as Adof and who is the Assistant Director of Operational Services of the first respondent told me in his office early in the morning before my release that the second respondent ( Hanan) ordered my arrest .

“ Herbert Ogboli told me in his office around 8 am on September 23 , 2019 before I was released that the first respondent ( DSS ) contacted the second respondent ( Hanan) three times to substantiate her allegations against me but she told him the first time that she was busy with her studies . When she was contacted the second time , she said she would send her lawyers . After the third call , she instructed my release .”

The applicant also asked the court to hold MTN liable for giving the DSS information about his location and call logs which assisted the DSS in locating him and subsequently detaining him for over two months.

Our telcos don't want to spend a dime reason they adapted the sim recycling option. I see no reason why a mobile number should be recycled when FULL KYC was done on that number, captured biodata, biometrics, photo etc. Recycled Numbers are mainly VOIP numbers that has no user biodata properly captured.

Meanwhile, if you're outside naija or you plan to leave naija anytime soon AND you want a service that'd enable you call your friends in naija for as low as 10k/s. Download the SmileVoive app from playstore or IOS and hit me up on steps on how to activate the app.

Check sig for contact.

Initially Okolie did not know the value of the SIM line he was holding until he started having call traffic from his phone.

Our source further noted that on noticing who owns the SIM line, Okorie had confided in his friends and neighbours, especially some of them from the Hausa community, stressing that they were the ones that convinced him on the favours he could curry with the SIM line.

“Initially, he had no intention of misusing the SIM line and the DSS did not arrest him for being in possession of the SIM line or blame the telecommunication for putting it in use. There is nothing wrong in the telecommunication recycling the SIM because they use such to measure progress. It was when Okolie started having traffic on the line that negative ideas and thoughts started coming into his head.

“He engaged the services of Hausas and each time calls came into the phone with the callers speaking Hausa, he would take the phone to some of his friends within the Hausa community where he was selling something to talk to the person.

“It was these same set of people and circle of friends that started putting negative thoughts and ideas into his head, which pushed him to put the line into fraudulent use.

“But, luck ran out of him when they used the SIM line to call and demand ridiculous amount of money from Hanan’s relative who curiously reported to the DSS to investigate the user of the line, wondering how a president’s daughter could request such ridiculous amount of money from him.

“It was the letter from the complainant requesting the DSS to carry out comprehensive investigation that led to Okolie’s arrest.

“Even inside the DSS detention facility, Okolie was very remorseful and pleaded with the Secret Police to forgive him, blaming his action on the influence of his Hausa friends and promising never to do such again. Good enough, he even confessed that he was not maltreated while in detention,” the top security source told newsmen.

Our source equally dismissed the decision of Olawale Bakari to institute legal action against the DSS, accusing him of being guilty of double speak.

“The same Bakari who told the media when he was released that he was treated well in detention is now turning around to claim that he was maltreated and even have the afrontery to institute legal action against the DSS. I am sure that DSS will laugh over his action and will even been ready to meet him in court,” the security source quipped.
