CHAP. XVII. The Chapter of the Serpent. THEN Adam and Eve came out at the mouth of the cave, and went towards the garden. p. 14 2 But as they drew near to it, before the western gate, from which Satan came when he deceived Adam and Eve, they found the. serpent that became Satan coming at the gate, and sorrowfully licking the dust, and wriggling on its breast on the ground, by reason of the curse that fell upon it from God. 3 And whereas aforetime the serpent was the most exalted of all beasts, now it was changed and become slippery, and the meanest of them all, and it crept on its breast and went on its belly. 4 And whereas it was the fairest of all beasts, it had been changed, and was become the ugliest of them all. Instead of feeding on the best food, now it turned to eat the dust. Instead of dwelling, as before, in the best places, now it lived in the dust. 5 And, whereas it had been the most beautiful of all beasts, all of which stood dumb at its beauty, it was now abhorred of them. 6 And, again, whereas it dwelt in one beautiful abode, to which all other animals came from elsewhere; and where it drank, they drank also of the same; now, after it had become venomous, by reason of God's curse, all beasts fled from its abode, and would not drink of the water it drank; but fled from it. from the forgotten books of Eden: The first book Adam and Eve |

CHAP. XVIII. The mortal combat with the serpent. WHEN the accursed serpent saw Adam and Eve, it swelled its head, stood on its tail, and with eyes blood-red, did as if it would kill them. 2 It made straight for Eve, and ran after her; while Adam standing by, wept because he had no stick in his hand wherewith to smite the serpent, and knew not how to put it to death. 3 But with a heart burning for Eve, Adam approached the serpent, and held it by the tail; when it turned towards him and said unto him:-- 4 "O Adam, because of thee and of Eve, I am slippery, and go upon my belly." Then by reason of its great strength, it threw down Adam and Eve and pressed upon them, as if it would kill them. 5 But God sent an angel who threw the serpent away from them, and raised them up. 6 Then the Word of God came to the serpent, and said unto it, "In the first instance I made thee glib, and made thee to go upon thy belly; but I did not deprive thee of speech. 7 "Now, however, be thou dumb; and speak no more, thou and thy race; because in the first place, has the ruin of my creatures happened through thee, and now thou wishest to kill them." 8 Then the serpent was struck dumb, and spake no more. 9 And a wind came to blow from heaven by command of God that carried away the serpent from Adam and Eve, threw it on the sea shore, and it landed in India. from the forgotten books of Eden: the first book of Adam and Eve |

godofuck231: Your history lesson is wack. Constantine was never a Pope, only an emperor, not to talk of being the FIRST Pope. |

FrLukas: the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great or Constantine I (born c. 280 - died 337 A.D.) remained a pagan, was never a Christian, and was the first Pope. Here is a typical false history believed by fundamentalists. In 312 AD, Constantine's army faced his enemy, Maxentius, who stood between him and the Roman Empire. It was during this battle when he 'apparently' saw a sign of the cross in the heavens saying, 'In this sign Conquer.' Having backed up by 'The Force,' he won the Battle and owned Rome. A few years after, he 'Christianized' Rome. As a result of this battle, Constantine claimed that his conversion to Christianity had taken place. He publicly issued his edict of toleration in 313 AD, and supposedly stopped the persecutions against the Christians and brought peace. His job was to merge paganism in the perverted form of Christianity, which he did, and turned it into ROMAN CATHOLICISM. Constantine was indeed a Roman emperor (reigned from 306 to 337 AD, born in Naissus [Nish] in modern Yugoslavia, about 280) but was not a lifelong pagan; he became a Christian sometime in 312 AD. His deathbed baptism was not against his will, and its delay was not unusual. Since in orthodox Catholic teaching this Sacrament cleansed one from all sin, where one became "saved" and "born again" by the Holy Spirit (John 3:3-7; Acts 2:38; 22:16; 1 Cor 6:11; 1 Peter 3:21; Titus 3:5), some in the early Church postponed this powerful Sacrament's effects (e.g. see Tertullian On Baptism 18; and St. Augustine Confessions 1:17-18). Infants were also frequently baptized (Origen Commentary on Romans 5:9; St. Cyprian of Carthage Letters 64:2-5; St. Gregory of Nazianz Orations on Holy Baptism 40:17; St. Augustine Forgiveness...and Baptism of Infants 1:9:10; 1:24:34; 2:27:43; Letters 98:2). this is courtesy of the Catholic encyclopedia, next time be a good boy and read your texts in school you moronnn |

godofuck231: So, he converting to Roman Catholicism made him a Pope? Clearly, you have comprehension issues. How did you pass your exams in school anyway? Point to that paragraph that says he became Pope. He legalised Christianity. That's a fact. He was never even ordained a priest, not to talk of being the Pope / Bishop of Rome. Go to any public library and the list of the 366 or so popes till date will be there waiting for you to read. The first was Peter the Apostle. The second Pope was Linus. The third Pope was Cletus or Anacletus etc Read up son. In fact, don't go to a public library, just Google it OK, and stop arguing rubbish. |
