Spy360: I may have to disagree with the bolded. In some terms , yes we have more passion playing against spurs being a local derby but why should we drop the same enthusiasm against Burnley? A team that wants to win does not disrespect any opponent. The same desire we need to beat Spurs should be the same desire we need to beat Burnley albeit being a smaller team with no disrespect to them. The fear factor has to return such that teams must already feel they have lost even before playing the game. I don't think a top player needs to find inner strength to play a lesser team. It must be an ethic to always play to win and annihilate the opponent each and every time you step unto that field. It shows the character of the present team we have if they always need the manager to spark words at half time before they realize they are playing a game which they need to win. Hopefully our scouting team can start looking at not just skills but character before bringing players to the club. Martinelli and Alexis are great examples of players who always have the drive in every single match regardless of the opponent to thrive and you can hardly lose games or not win trophies when you have 5 or 6 characters in your starting line-up like that going full throttle every game until the end of the season. |

Thanks to the guys for posting pictures of the Good old days when we had characters that were always in it for each and every game and were relentless at it. Not to say one wont lose games but you can be rest assured that with such efforts, come end of the season, there must be a reward. City may be out of the EPL race but the way they tear small teams to pieces has given them rewards and like it or hate it, they already have a trophy in the cabinet this season for all their wobbly form and that is exactly where we need to retrace back and start from. We must be ruthless against any lower opposition and yes it requires desire and passion to do that week in week out. Ha menh, we have really gone down oh. The days when even during the press conference , you can see the opponent already scared of losing before playing the game. These days small teams will even be bragging that they know how to handle us. Chai we have really suffered. But hopefully this torturous cycle will end soon enough and we can start a new one as it was back in those days |

Now una dey talk about passion ...... when I was talking about Alexis’ impact at Arsenal and even being one of the major reasons we won those FA cups that came in Wenger’s latter years, una say Ozil get influence pass him. Alexis that was clearly the indefatigable player who always ginger everybody with his hustle spirit. Just like someone pointed up there, the only person in the present team with a semblance of that hustle spirit is the youngster; Martinelli. Smh |

Jencejyde: Former Arsenal defender Andre Santos says Gunners players didn’t show ambition during his time at the club, and used to “laugh on the bus” after they suffered defeats. “I couldn’t win the title but I was very happy at Arsenal. Living well, training, but at Arsenal I saw no ambition to win,” Bacary Sagna Arsenal’s players got too comfortable. That is the reason why I left the club. At a given point in your career you need to get out of that comfort zone if you want to go forward. “If you revel in that type of routine you risk losing everything. “Arsenal have everything they need to be successful. They are based in London and have superb facilities and a great stadium. “But the players need to show more desire out on the pitch. 1 Like |

Jencejyde:This is true, but it's mere theory. In pragmatic terms, the opposite is the case and it is OK. Have you experienced Nigeria Vs Ghana in those days? That's not just football, it is life. That's why so much is said about derbies. The competitive spirit is higher. I don't need to buttress much on this issue. |

Spy360: I may have to disagree again that it's mere theory having played and experienced it. Nigeria and Ghana has always been war and still is till this present day on the pitch and yes egos and tensions are always high as it is when we play Cameroon as well. At the end of it though, it all boils down to the dna of the club from top to bottom especially the personell that play in week in week out. If they feel passion for one game because it's a derby and feel nothing for another game or apply less intensity because the team is smaller then that speaks volumes of where we are headed and if truly we can compete to win laurels. Never have I had that attitude and God bless my team mates of then cos we always played every single game with the same intensity bar injuries . It's really a debate that could go on and on but I also respect your opinion and truly hope for all it's worth that this team can get back to where it used to be with the right attitude from top to bottom |
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by Jencejyde(m): 11:47am On Mar 11, 2020 |
Pep was once asked how he manages to get his players in the right frame for every match and I recall his reply saying he expects the team to play with the same intensity from start to finish regardless of the opposition as any player who flouts and starts show boating because they are winning a game will risk being dropped for the next game even if he is the so called star player. The right attitude starts from the top down and a lot of credit has to go to Aterta for trying to bring the attitude back cos it is said that he always has harsh words in the dressing room at half time if the team is not performing repeatedly shouting at them to get their acts together. This has nothing to do with the opposition but rather the mentality of being a serial winner. Honestly I sincerely hope the board can back him in the summer and give him time and then we can assess . |
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by Spy360(m): 12:46pm On Mar 11, 2020 |
Jencejyde:I get your point, you need to see mine as we are almost on point. That's why I said they have to draw from inner strength or call it drive if you like, cos that's what great teams do. They find a way to maintain the same intensity regardless of who they play. But the fact remains that the intensity is naturally high during local derbies, and I attribute United's win over City to that mainly. |
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by Spy360(m): 12:53pm On Mar 11, 2020 |
Jencejyde:Lacazette once confessed Arteta shouted at them after they had a poor half. I really want to commend that because it is the problem with recent Arsenal teams where they get too pampered that they forget they are being paid. |
Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: Finally Reborn! The Red & White Army: FA CUP Champions 2020 by Jencejyde(m): 1:17pm On Mar 11, 2020 |
Spy360: For sure. I remember a certain half time where we had a poor performance and the coach did not even talk to us at half time but the look on his face said a thousand words. It was not a case of we must win but rather that our performance must improve . It's key to note that sometimes you play well and lose but 95 percent of the time, you are expected to play at optimal levels such that even if it's a bad result.you can lift your heads up in confidence that you gave it all. Over the last 13 years how many of such performances have we seen from this team until just recently. One of which comes to mind was fa cup vs leeds where it was a completely animalistic Arsenal that came out to play against a leeds side that I dare say we're far better than us in every department. But that pure drive and cold blooded mentality gave us the 1 0 result which was all that was needed to scale through. I wonder why these players cant show that side of them often enough and not need a coach to have to shout his lungs out for them to realize that they need to put in a shift to get a result. I watch the Barca games of old during the Messi Pedro iniesta and xavi era. Those guys were hard-working and there press was of the highest intensity ever . No brainier they dominated for long before movement and age started creeping in. Same with our squad of old and even the mancs when vidic and fedinand had scholes and butt playing in front of them. These teams were hard-working and always stepped into the pitch with only one goal in mind be that is to win no matter the opposition. Indeed the caliber of players these days are more of money and media . Only a few still have the right playing attitude. Our scouting system really needs to do more going forward |

CLUB STATEMENT: CITY V ARSENAL POSTPONED Arsenal fixture postponed Manchester City’s Premier League fixture at home to Arsenal has been postponed. The decision to postpone tonight's game has been taken as a precautionary measure on medical advice, after it emerged that personnel from Arsenal FC have come into contact with the Olympiacos owner, Evangelos Marinakis, who has been named as a positive case of COVID-19. Manchester City FC wishes Mr Marinakis a speedy recovery, and further information will follow in the coming days about rescheduled dates, but supporters are advised not to travel to Etihad Stadium for this fixture. https://www.mancity.com/news/mens/man-city-arsenal-postponed-63719481 |

Coronavirus: No Arsenal players or staff to be tested despite Man City postponement No Arsenal players or staff will be tested for coronavirus after the postponement of Wednesday's Premier League game against Manchester City. The match was cancelled after Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis said he had contracted the virus. Marinakis attended Olympiakos' Europa League tie at Arsenal on 27 February. The BBC understands fewer than five Arsenal players are in self-isolation, having been in contact with Marinakis in the tunnel after that match. How coronavirus has affected sporting events around the world Some Gunners staff members are also self-isolating because they sat close to Marinakis, who also owns Championship club Nottingham Forest, for a prolonged period. The players' 14-day isolation period expires on Thursday, and their Premier League trip to Brighton on Saturday is due to go ahead as planned. The unaffected players trained as normal on Tuesday. Forest and Olympiakos have confirmed that all of their players and staff have tested negative for the virus. Six people with the virus have died in the UK, where there has been a total of 382 cases. According to government advice, people who have come into contact with somebody who might be infected are not considered cases and will only be tested if they also become unwell. They will be asked to self-isolate at home for 14 days from the last time they had contact with the confirmed case. Evangelos Marinakis was at Emirates Stadium on 27 February watching Olympiakos beat Arsenal There were 12 days between Olympiakos' match against Arsenal and Marinakis' announcement. Arsenal played twice in that time, while Marinakis was present at the City Ground for Forest's Championship game against Millwall on Friday. Here is a timeline of events so far: Marinakis was at Emirates Stadium for Arsenal's Europa League last-32 second leg against Olympiakos on 27 February. The Gunners played League One Portsmouth in the FA Cup on 2 March. Marinakis attended Forest's Championship match against Millwall at the City Ground on 6 March. Arsenal played West Ham in the Premier League on 7 March. Portsmouth played Peterborough in League One on 7 March and Fleetwood on 10 March. Marinakis confirmed he had tested positive for coronavirus on 10 March. Wolves play Olympiakos in the Europa League behind closed doors on Thursday after their request to have the tie postponed was rejected by Uefa. Arsenal are due to play Brighton on Saturday while Nottingham Forest travel to Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall host Derby and Portsmouth face Accrington. West Ham are scheduled to play Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday. How clubs and sporting bodies have responded The Premier League says there are no plans to postpone any other matches and that "all necessary measures are being taken", while the English Football League is working with Forest to "fully ascertain the set of circumstances that existed when Mr Marinakis visited the club" before deciding what measures to take - if any. The Professional Footballers' Association said it was speaking to the relevant authorities concerned, including Uefa, and had urged players to follow medical advice from their clubs and the UK government. A number of the clubs involved have also responded: Nottingham Forest said they were "seeking advice from medical professionals and the relevant governing bodies to ensure the correct measures are taken". Millwall have said "senior club representatives who came into contact with Mr Marinakis have begun a period of self isolation". Portsmouth and Peterborough are planning for their weekend matches as normal while continuing to follow "government guidelines". Brighton said their game against Arsenal this Saturday "remains scheduled to go ahead as planned, in line with government advice, and following consultation with the Premier League and medical advisors". West Ham say their game against Wolves is also scheduled to go ahead as planned https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51834736 |

Roland17:Arsenal insist that no-one has shown any symptoms and will get the 14 day all clear on Thursday but are not making them take the coronavirus test. The club also believe that as the virus often takes between five and seven days to show symptoms the likelihood is that Marinakis did not have the virus when he attended the game at the Emirates. Arsenal quickly became aware on Tuesday of the implications and potential knock-on effects so took a club decision to request the game to be postponed with special permission from the Premier League and support from Manchester City . https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-confident-staff-players-coronavirus-21675408 |
