It is also the most useless derby in the world. The quality of football in this derby is easily rivalled by a high school match in kenya.
Do you have an idea of how many foreigners are playing in that derby? Don't compare your shithole derby with ours

Southern african customs union, do you know it? Which is the oldest customs union in the world long before Tanzania existed

SA is largest trading partner, largest investor in Lesotho, Namibia, swaziland, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Angola Malawi etc

Can you at least give a reason any country will choose Tanzania over SA?

Theres no siding here nigga, its strictly trade. How would siding with Tanzania benefit a country that needs high tech stuff that tanzanian doesnt make but SA does. Will siding with Tanzania give you the goods Tanzania doesnt make?

High tech What high tech?? Name one "high tech" stuff that Zambia, Malawi and DRC can only get from South Africa and not from China through the port of Dar es salaam... Name one. Name one export item that Zambia, Malawi and DRC can only export to the world through South Africa and not through ports of Tanga, Dar es salaam, Mtwara, Maputo, Nacala or Beira. Name one.

SACU is a small thing.Even TZ can still say,Do you know East African community which is headquartered in TZ?

Don't just say a largest trading partner without giving details on the issue.Even TZ is the largest trading partner. And you aren't the biggest investor in Angola or DRC where real money is.

Countries will align with TZ for different reasons.E.g,

1.Mauritius will choose TZ because of her investments in TZ
2.Syschelles will go TZ way for historical reasons of military cooperations
3.Comoro will go TZ way because of sharing language, culture and strong ties. Its TZ which went to do military stuff there!
4.Zambia will go TZ way because of geographic location
5.DRC will choose TZ.You know the reasons
6.Angola will choose TZ. I think you know how we fought with them against SA in apartheid time.Angola,TZ was joined by cubans, while SA was supported by USA.
7.Malawi,Mozambique, & Zimbabwe can go either way.SA can only manage to have those tiny nations like Swazi and Lesotho.

Most nations will go TZ side mainly due to historical ties.SA investments can be replaced and sourced somewhere else, but that strong historical ties which TZ has can't be sourced anywhere else.A trust which TZ is getting from those nation is too strong for any xenophobic guy to try break it.

Kenyan firm sets the pace in assembly of ships for region

A Kenyan company is increasingly making a name as a top ship assembler in the region.
The Mombasa-based Southern Engineering Co. Ltd (SECO) just completed the assembly of two cargo vessels for the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) putting Kenya on the map of emerging shipbuilding countries in the region.
The firm has completed two cargo ships for Tanzanian government with a capacity to handle 2,000 tonnes of dry cargo or 72 twenty-foot containers (TEUs). The barges were tested and certified to operate last week.
Due to the use of modern technology in the assembly, SECO has also secured contract from TPA to construct and deliver three pilot boats this year after it successfully built and tested the two cargo barges named Hapa Kazi Tu 01 and Hapa Kazi Tu 02.
The completion of the two vessels brings the number of such vessels built for two East African countries at SECO shipyard to five in less than a decade after Uganda government contracted the company to build four vessels in 2012.

• Maritime players urge Kenya to start building own ships
• The four vessels which were procured by Uganda authority include MV Albert Nile 1 which is a roll on roll off (RoRo) modular ferry specially designed to safely transport passengers and vehicles across Lake Albert in Uganda.
Other vessels built by SECO and delivered to Uganda include three passenger ferry MV Bisina, MV Obongi and MV Laropi which are modular passenger ferries that plies the Okokorio and Agule route, the Sinyanya channel and Umi route respectively.
SECO Shipyard General Manager Sanjiv Nair said the first vessel of the same series, Hapa Kazi Tu 01 was completed in July 31, 2019 and both vessels are scheduled for delivery to the client in Tanzania by mid this month.
"The vessels will operate in and around the Port of Tanga and the surrounding coastal waters and they were constructed in a record 20 months," said Mr Nair.
"With local assembly, it is easier to provide after-sales management at the facility's dry dock. Local assembly also creates the growth of the needed technology, a human resource for technical support and more jobs with huge economic spillover."
SECO was established in 1957 and has a long history of marine engineering, having developed shipbuilding and dry-docking facilities in a waterfront yard at Kilindi Wharf.
The firm also majors in shipyard repairs and marine engineering services. Other areas SECO focuses on are pipework installation, offshore civil works such as the Lake Turkana Wind Power project where the company was constructing the service camp.
Following SECO’s success, a section of maritime players now wants Kenya to invest in shipbuilding and stop depending on foreign vessels, as a way of shoring up the blue economy.
The players say the sector can employ more youths as the country is well located to offer marine services to different countries in the world.
“With the opening of Lamu port in the next few weeks, Kenya can build ships for different countries since the port will attract more international ships for transshipment,” said Kenya International Freight and Warehousing Association chairman Roy Mwanthi.
"Kenya being a member of several international maritime bodies, has a chance to be the best market for ship building in Africa and must begin by investing in the African Marine and General Engineering Company and SECO in Mombasa that used to repair ships docking at the port of Mombasa," said Andrew Mwangura, a maritime expert.
partner yards
The Kenyan government is eyeing the lucrative shipbuilding and repair industry following commissioning of a modern shipyard facility at the Kenya Navy Mtongwe base in Mombasa.
The government in April last year contracted Dutch firm, Damen Group, as the main project contractor and the project is expected to be completed July next year.
Damen Shipyards Group is a globally operating company with more than 50 shipyards, repair yards, and related companies, as well as numerous partner yards that can build Damen vessels locally.
Since 1969 it has designed and built more than 5,000 vessels and delivers up to 150 vessels .

Unique designs draw investors to Nairobi’s skies
Modern Nairobi Cityscape Nairobi’s skyline is fast evolving as new, classy skyscrapers rise to pierce the city’s skies.
The beauty of East Africa’s business hub is being boosted by investors pumping fortunes into real estate and grand edifices adorning the city. And it is not just tall buildings, but aesthetically appealing ones.
The tallest two buildings in East and Central Africa sit in Nairobi’s Upper Hill area.
The 163-metre tall UAP Old Mutual Towers, whose construction was completed in 2016, took the mantle of the region’s tallest building, but the glory was short-lived.
A year later, a 200-metre competitor Britam Towers showed up a few hundred metres next and took UAP Old Mutual’s thunder. The most recent skyscrapers of the green city in the sun include Prism Tower, Le’Mac and FCB Mihrab Tower.
Others coming up include The Pinnacle Tower (70-storey) pinned to become Africa’s tallest, the stalled 63-storey Hazina Towers, the 47-storey Global Trade Centre (office), the 40-storey Montave Southern Tower and the 44-storey Nairobi Condominium Tower.
However, winning the race for the skies was not enough for Britam Towers. In 2017, Emporis, a firm that awards 10 skyscrapers for “excellence in both aesthetic and functional design” globally, ranked Britam Towers 10th on their list for the year.
Britam Towers became the first skyscraper from Africa to get the nod in the 20 years the award has been running.
The 31-floor beauty’s breakthrough showed Kenya is taking the continental lead in architectural creativity and proficiency.
But Africa still has a lot of catching up to do if it has to compete with architectural powers such as the US, China, United Kingdom, France and Italy, which have dominated the rankings since 2000.
Designed by GAPP Architects and Urbanists and drawn by Triad Architects, Britam Towers has three floors below the ground. It boasts 1,002 parking places with eight elevators.
Its construction began in 2013 and four years later, it was opening doors to the public.
In recognising the building, Emporis noted that Britam Towers ‘features a unique prismatic shape’. The firm also pointed out that the scintillating Upper Hill building boasts turbines on the top that generate power — contributing to the tower’s sustainability features.
In the latest rankings (of 2018), normalcy returned. No building from Africa appeared in the top 10. China’s MGM Cotai took the lead, with Emporis praising the building’s conception - a composition of nine jewel-like boxes with cutouts to break down the overall volume.
The building has an atrium, a swimming pool and an exercise facility. It is a 35-floor building whose construction took five years, beginning in 2013.
France’s 31-floor La Marsellaise and 39-storey UK’s 52 Lime Street buildings complete the podium for 2018.
The whole list consists of three edifices from the US. As innovations come up in Nairobi city, it is becoming necessary to produce appealing constructions. Yet the efforts made in creating the appeal might be ignored by those unable to appreciate the beauty at the expense of other factors including location, pricing of rental units and the buildings’ size.
Architectural Association of Kenya President Mugure Njendu noted that high rise buildings give the best return on investment owing to the high price of land in Nairobi.
But their beauty is a plus, and architects have to go an extra mile to achieve this. “High rise buildings offer more visibility, which puts more challenge on the designers to ensure they design buildings that stand out,” she says.
Who are the most potent investors in the country, the people behind the beautiful skyline Nairobi boasts?
“Primarily, corporates who want an architectural landmark in various areas - whether Upperhill or Westlands or any other area. Kenya has also become a regional ideal location for many global companies,” said Mugure.
“Many investors are looking outside their countries to invest in property and Africa, specifically East Africa, is a quickly emerging market in this regard. Considering that East Africa’s urbanisation rate is highest in the world, and Kenya is its economic hub, many investors are injecting capital into buildings in the region,” she says.
AAK last month rewarded buildings that showcase excellence in architecture in the country.
They considered the buildings’ design (innovation, technologies, originality and creativity), sustainability (design, process, lifetime use), durability and the sourcing of materials locally.
“The quality of works presented was sadly underwhelming, especially as the jury knows of projects that would have qualified and where not submitted,” read the jury’s report.
“Besides, the presentation of the projects, especially the quality of drawings, in many cases was poor. In many instances, the quality of the presentations did not reflect the actual projects.” In the best low-income house category, no building qualified for the top award. However, Karibu Homes were awarded in the runners up category, having hit a 60 per cent score. It was credited for creating a neighbourhood design that is innovative, simple and livable, and also creative use of local materials and texture in the facades. The best residential building was Lake View 29 (studio sketch), credited for its creative design. The runners up were The Hacienda.
Tiara Business Park took the honours for the Best Commercial Building due to its design. It connects with its six surroundings using forms and materials that speak of the building use and where it sits.”
In second place was, curiously, Britam Towers, lauded for creative use of building materials, especially the innovative sun shading elements for climate control.
Others that won awards were Crawford International and Indian Ocean Beach Resort. “The buildings show a very interesting approach to the process of making, using local craftsmanship and combining traditional techniques with a reinterpretation of the same,” read the report.
In downtown Nairobi, another landmark — the CBK Pension House adorns the city skyline. It is the newest beauty, standing shoulder to shoulder with Times Towers.
It was built by Chinese contractor China Wu Yi. Moses Okemwa, the architect behind the masterpiece, says the freedom to experiment with form and material is responsible for innovative high-rises the city is seeing.
Mr Okemwa, who was working with Arprim Consultants says more is yet to come in the metropolis’ skyline. “The design of CBK Pension House is made up of two curved structures, the leaning (in opposite directions) a semblance of two old pensioners whose backs are bent with age. In between is a support system that holds them together, an indication that pooling of resources can save these people in their old age,” he says.
The CBK Pension House’s taller tower has 27 usable floors with three viewing decks above the service floor, while the shorter tower is made up of 24 usable floors above the ground.
He is upbeat that the over 90 per cent of the city’s built-up areas that are made up of low-rises will give way to high-rise buildings. Modern offices, if well designed and when aesthetically appealing, are bound to attract a lot of renters. Availability of support spaces lures in more tenants.
According to Okemwa, buildings are essential elements for way-finding and place-making, noting that Africa’s architecture is headed the right direction. “KICC has for a long time been the face of Nairobi. Africa needs to have a lot of iconic buildings that when seen can be immediately linked to their host cities,” noted Okemwa.
The attractiveness of these buildings means that office spaces are more likely to attract occupiers. “The aesthetic appeal lures more people as they are more alive to good design now,” noted Mugure.

Tender for Sh10bn Konza tech varsity
Thursday, March 12, 2020 0:01
By JAMES KARIUKI
Last month, KoTDA staff moved to its Sh1.9 billion office complex at Konza.

South Korea has provided a Sh9.6 billion loan for construction of a postgraduate studies university at Konza Technopolis.
The Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kaist Kenya) to sit on 22 acres is modelled on the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology whose emphasis is specialised training that addresses skills gap in emerging technologies.
Upon completion in 24 months, Kaist Kenya will admit its first batch of master’s and PhD students in three faculties — Mechanical, Electrical and ICT Engineering, Chemical Civil and Agriculture Engineering/Biotechnology, and Basic Science Education.
In a tender notice, Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) invited South Korean building contractors and suppliers for building facilities and equipping laboratories and engineering workshops.
Export-Import Bank of Korea has provided the loan from the resources of the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) where bidders will prove ability to post a Sh103 million security bond by May 8 when the tender closes.

I can believe I have to explain this, you get better deals when you have influence in a nation. Things like tax breaks and incentives from the host nation goes a far way. That is why before a major investment in a country, the embassy helps to set the tone for how the investment should go before the company steps in to negotiate the terms.
And you are the one who lost touch with reality thinking DRC or Zambia would side with SA in trade.
