My Bank Account Restricted Unjustly by Harbeeorlar(m): 7:43am On Mar 15, 2020
Good day All, please how do I go about this issue I am into?

On Weds 11th, March, 2020 I logged on to my GTworld to make transaction but I got a response that my account has a debit/credit restriction.

I reached out to my bank via twitter DM to know what is going on, the response I got was that my account was reported for fraud hence I should make full return of alleged fraudulent transfer i made on 3/4/2020. Without wasting time, I logged on to my GTworld to check and i saw the said transaction which was the only credit i received that day.

It happened that i went to the ATM to make deposit but when i got there the machine was down (hardware error), seeing how depressed i was, one of the customers that wanted to withdraw offered to transfer to me while i gave him cash. That was it, it was not a fraudulent transaction but now he went to report me for fraud.

I further asked how i can clear myself but i was told only if i liase with the account holder or i make the full payment that's the only way they can lift the restriction. Someone i did not know or have his contact. And i believe he owns the account not someone else's account because he used USSD to make the transfer. But why he reported me and the bank easily believe is what i don't understand.

Please dear Nairalander, how can i get out of this. I cant make use of my account all this while, people who send money into the account unknowingly are on my neck to carryout there services for them, and this is becoming too much for me.

The person that transfered money to your account is a fraud.

The account he transfered money from does not belong to him.

This is a huge amount of money in front of you, don't miss it. Get a good lawyer and sue their ass.
Let them show the cam recording of the day and you might be lucky if the camera got his lying ass. Let him show the proof that his phone was sent to you, yes, but yond reasonable doubts. Let mtn or the network provider provide logs for IMEI change, call logs of the said number (to know if phones were changed) on the day the transaction occurred for the jury's perusal.

Email me after getting the money tho grin

But i think he owns the account because he used the ATM too. He actually wanted to withdraw 7k but he withdrew 4k so that he can transfer the 3k to me to balance the amount he planned to withdraw

if the camera evidence is not available, the network provider may be able to provide proof that there was no change of phone (IMEI number) on the said day. In addition, call logs could be gotten but you really need to get a lawyer first. A sound one.

Just for 3k?

What could he have told the bank judging by your narrative.

That the ATM captured us that very day is that enough to clear myself?

If what you said here is the truth, it means this is a new format by frausters to prey on victims. People should be careful because not everybody you see in bank premises comes for genuine transactions. Some are there just to defraud customers.

I believe you visit your bank, the branch were the transaction took place and explain to them what transpired between both of you.

Then ask them to call the customer that reported you of fraud to come for a meeting to clear your name. If there is any cctv, you may be Lucky.

But my fear is that he might deny the obvious because there is no evidence to support the cash you gave him.

It happened at ATM point (GTconnect) but i want to go to the nearest branch tomorrow but before i go i am trying to seek knowledge on how to go about it. I should have solid claims because he used the ATM to withdraw moment before he transfer to me. And i used the ATM too.

@ OP, you deserves a good slap for what you're saying. You need to thank your star the amount s not more than that, otherwise by now you will be cooling yourself at a underground cell in SFU.

So in this era you still help a total stranger to transfer into your account why you offer cash? So since the ATM is down you cannot return back home or its a must you deposit that day? My brother, be mindful of what you do with strangers.

Go to the bank, report yourself and pay the money. Shikena

But seriously is there proof for all the monies that enters your account? A random person that send money to me legitimately can just choose to report me?

Please and please, NEVER allow your account be used for such inflows. Especially at ATMs.

Someone close to me was a victim of something similar, I wanted to create a thread on it- but I have been lazy.

You've most likely been used as a PICKER. The person doesn’t own that account. I call them STRANDED COMMUTERS. They will always approach you with a sob story of how they are traveling, they need cash, but not with their DEBIT CARDS for withdrawals.

Then they’ll propose to transfer to your own and have you withdraw for them. Whatever they propose must always involve crediting your account.

People have helped withdraw ransoms without knowing. It is when you enter bank to withdraw and EFCC pounces on you, clear you from the ground with better sliding tackle- that is when you’ll know what you have gotten into.

What you’ll do depends on the severity of the restriction. One needs to see it to advise properly.

However, generally speaking, if there is an apprehend on sight placed on your account- you’ll be picked up the second you step into any branch. I doubt it’ll come in here, this is too small an amount.

If it is just the customer reporting, crediting your account with said sum and giving a written instruction for it to be sent back, would fix it. This doesn’t always mean the restriction will be lifted immediately. You might not be able to do online transactions for a while.

For the first scenario, you will spend more. A police report and court order would come in.

The good thing is, you will learn, albeit the hard way.

Not just ATMs my sister sad

Some will transfer money to your account (how they get your details and phone number is what I don't know)

Then they call you on the phone, saying that they mistakingly sent to you and blah blah blah, and they want you to send it to another account or whatever (different from the one that sent it to you)

But i will go there regardless, i did not commit any crime to the best of my knowledge. And before anything they should schedule a meeting with the person that reported me. They can't just act and accused me base on a written report without giving me room to clear myself. I have known better now and i will take this as a great lesson, thank God the sum is not more than this.

The only reason u are typing this now is that the money is not up-to 150k. Post no debit orders usually come with an arrest on sight order for large sums.
U would have been behind bars
Ur bank figures u can return the money and that's why they are being gentle with u.
The person stole someone's account details and transferred money via the account to u. It's a common scam most guys play on university students.
Forget how he did it... Go to ur bank with the money... Meet ur banker/account manager... He already sees the transfer thread. Explain urself and offer to pay it back.

Sometimes... Even after u paid back, it's a long road to recover ur account.

Very true. I mentioned ATMs because most cases I have seen happened at ATM points.

I have heard of this too, in such situation, send it back to them. I will get off my lazy butt and finish that thread.

You can go there. Lol @ schedule a meeting. Pray never to be linked with any e-fraud. You’ll just jejely walk into a bank and they’ll be delaying you. All that is them waiting for security officers to show. Next thing they clamp down on you, right in the full view of people.

That meeting you seek will be done @ Panti or Alagbon.

I'll be blunt on this from past experiences.

It might take a month or more for yr account to be restored.

But please does that mean out of wickedness anybody can just choose to report any account all because of in-flow? Because from what many are saying the bank will only act on the report and alert without verifying whether the account holder was actually the one who carried d out the transaction?

They cant arrest you...

I have had such case before from a trade here on nl where a sister filed a fraud case on a joint acct operated by her and her brother...

It was her bother who transacted with me and paid me but the sister who wasnt in the country wasnt in terms with how the brother was moving money and thus filed fraud transfers...

My acct was restricted and i had to visit the bank and they showed me the transaction and i explained...

Told them to hold the value involved from my acct and free my acct ... they did so.

Once they resolved the issue, they shld release back the value to my acct...

And that was it... when the brother and sister came to terms a week later, the value held was released back to my acct
