The state houses the only indigenous automobile manufacturing plant in Nigeria – Innoson Motors – as well as major auto part manufacturing factories. In recognition of the sector’s potential in the state, the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) announced plans to construct and develop an automotive industrial park in Nnewi. Towards this, the Anambra State government provided the FGN with 80 hectares of land in December 23 2016.
The automobile park will serve as a one-stop shop for spare part manufacturers in Anambra and other neighbouring states. The state is also an attractive destination to other manufacturing companies including Toyota and Honda; and regional car companies including General Appliances West Africa and Perfection Motors Company, who were granted auto assembly plant licenses in 2015 but are yet to begin operations in the country.
