Very true. I mentioned ATMs because most cases I have seen happened at ATM points.

I have heard of this too, in such situation, send it back to them. I will get off my lazy butt and finish that thread.

Do you mean its a good move to send back suspicious fraudulent transactions immediately without contacting the bank first?

I think OP has got himself in trouble... There is possibility that the person that send the money to u is a fraudster and not the owner of the said account. And the owner of the account probably reported to police, and the police request the bank to restrict ur account as bank can't do that on their own. Then waiting for u to come to the bank to complain and then arrest u...I just pray u get out of this easily.

How is it different when someone who send money to your account can still went ahead and report you that the transfer is fraudulent?
You seem to have not learned your lesson.
Did he show you his ID card and DOB certificate before he sent the money to you?
Or you assumed he must be the owner because he used USSD?

Maybe next time you will receive money from kidnappers who killed their victim.

send it back to them you said? Never try such without reporting to the bank first.

If any morafuker try such on me it will end in tears for them.

Unless am under gun point no such tricks can work on me. If you mistakenly transfer money to my account na u go call the bank and report to them then they'll contact me and I'll tell them I don't know you so nothing concern me shekina.

They cant arrest you...

I have had such case before from a trade here on nl where a sister filed a fraud case on a joint acct operated by her and her brother...

It was her bother who transacted with me and paid me but the sister who wasnt in the country wasnt in terms with how the brother was moving money and thus filed fraud transfers...

My acct was restricted and i had to visit the bank and they showed me the transaction and i explained...

Told them to hold the value involved from my acct and free my acct ... they did so.

Once they resolved the issue, they shld release back the value to my acct...

And that was it... when the brother and sister came to terms a week later, the value held was released back to my acct

But you received the money in a Business Account and not a Personal Account like the OP. Isn't it?

Good day All, please how do I go about this issue I am into?

On Weds 11th, March, 2020 I logged on to my GTworld to make transaction but I got a response that my account has a debit/credit restriction.

I reached out to my bank via twitter DM to know what is going on, the response I got was that my account was reported for fraud hence I should make full return of alleged fraudulent transfer i made on 3/4/2020. Without wasting time, I logged on to my GTworld to check and i saw the said transaction which was the only credit i received that day.

It happened that i went to the ATM to make deposit but when i got there the machine was down (hardware error), seeing how depressed i was, one of the customers that wanted to withdraw offered to transfer to me while i gave him cash. That was it, it was not a fraudulent transaction but now he went to report me for fraud.

I further asked how i can clear myself but i was told only if i liase with the account holder or i make the full payment that's the only way they can lift the restriction. Someone i did not know or have his contact. And i believe he owns the account not someone else's account because he used USSD to make the transfer. But why he reported me and the bank easily believe is what i don't understand.

Please dear Nairalander, how can i get out of this. I cant make use of my account all this while, people who send money into the account unknowingly are on my neck to carryout there services for them, and this is becoming too much for me.
how much??
Re: My Bank Account Restricted Unjustly by jahlove4jah: 1:19am On Mar 16, 2020
Option A

Write an official mail to your bank requesting that you want an explanation for the restriction on your account and pur the senders bank email in the copy.

Ask them to provide the account details of the reporter and what his/her claims are.

Let them know that the restriction is affecting your business.

Option B

Consider the possibility that the sender could have stolen the phone and atm card of the account owner and forcefully made him/her to release the card pin for them to empty the account.

In this case you might be considered an accomplice in a crime you know nothing about

You could just liase and refund the 3k after letting them know that you just assisted a stranded customer in desperate need of cash at atm.

Lesson: Don't transact with a stranger when there is no buying and selling or rendering of services. Most of them are fraudsters looking for how to divert attention.

You want to give sniper to person with headache?

@op. You'd better listen to those who are telling you to cooperate with the bank fully. You were the victim of a fraudulent case. The man you met was not the rightful owner of the account. Forget about the alleged ATM card you saw or anything else. You are not an investigator; he could have shown you just any ATM or he could have stolen it along with the phone from a bag or purse. You just don't have the information to identify the person's credibility and you had no business behaving as if you were his bank; conducting transactions on its behalf. Also, nobody who can serve as a witness clearly saw you give him the cash. As it stands now, the only verifiable info available anywhere is that a sum of money was transferred into your account via USSD from a possibly stolen phone. Go clear yourself and if they want you to repay the money, pay up.

If you involve lawyers or the police, they will just escalate the issue to the point where you cannot handle it again, and a N3k issue will become a N500k issue. I have warned you. My task is done here.

You did well for him jare. Had to like your post. OP thinks because he is not a "Yahoo Boy", he couldn't have been involved in "Yahoo Yahoo" smiley

The real "Yahoo Boy" must have made lots of online transactions on that account but decided to use OP as the face behind his dastardly acts. That's why he chose that insignificant amount (N3K) that wouldn't make OP suspicious and also intentionally made an ATM withdrawal in the presence of OP so as to give legitimacy to his request.

Ignorance is more than a disease as it can be deadly atimes.

Even in business these days, someone's eyes should not just be glued (greedy) to the money to be made without sniffing around for any form of fraud that would make one an innocent (foolish) accomplice, which could lead to one losing more than the gain and also locked behind bars.

While reporting to the bank is ideal, there are situations where it wouldn’t work out that way. The descriptions in transfers are for a reason. But then, you are right. You should report to your bank first, not everyone has my grace.

You offered value and got paid yet they acted based lack of agreement between partners who fulfilled the signatory terms of disbursing money from the account

You are lucky they are asking you to refund the money to get cleared.
What if the account owner was kidnapped , robed or even killed ? You wont have gotten a refund as solution to lifting the restriction but an arrest that would lead to massive beating by security Agencies.

Don't even mind all these people. I don't think a bank can be so sloppy as to just freeze someone's account who didn't receive proceeds of fraud and they are not sure the person gave value for the money received without having done due diligence to trace the funds. They're playing with lawsuit if truly they do that

Now that the cash has been withdrawn from his account, he has to pay back the said funds no question asked.

Then ask them to call the customer that reported you of fraud to come for a meeting to clear your name. If there is any cctv, you may be Lucky.

The young man received a payment in his account which no one has a proof that he initiated.
It could be a payment for an online transaction, it could even be a give away received from anyone from here on Nl abi any other SM, anybody with itching fingers could just pick an account number randomly from anywhere or even guess it and transfer money to it.
The bank has no right or whatsoever to block his account, that's so expedient of the bank, you should sue them if you can afford it.

How daft can you be to receive money from a total stranger in the year 2020.

Your inflow came from a 3rd party account so you received proceeds of a fraudulent transaction.

Start counting your losses & pray you don’t get arrested for that transaction.

I'm flabbergasted as to how you people are thinking upside down. It is the bank's job to go and fish out whoever is the fraudulent sender. The fact that the bank even froze his account without proof of fraud is lawsuit worthy. Freezing the receiver account is a mistake except they've noticed that he is fraudulent

Even if the sender's account was stolen or the funds transferred is a proceed of fraud, the receiver got paid for offering value. It is if it is proven that he never gave value that he is culpable and that's only in situation where the funds is proceed of fraud not when the account is stolen. And that will be a case for law enforcement to unravel
I've paid money into someone's account who pretended to be selling something online but after transferring the money to him, he blocked my line. I don't expect the bank to just freeze his account based on my allegation without due diligence from the bank to first establish that he is fraud.

So in this era you still help a total stranger to transfer into your account why you offer cash? So since the ATM is down you cannot return back home or its a must you deposit that day? My brother, be mindful of what you do with strangers.

Go to the bank, report yourself and pay the money. Shikena

The bank cannot have a case against this guy. Any customer can report a case of fraud after legitimate business! Think about it. The burden of proof is on the complainant not the receiver of funds. An account holder is suppose to protect his account information from intrusion. The bank restriction is a breach of contract and the embarrassment caused to the customer deserve a fine when the case is litigated.

The person who did the transfer to your account is fraudulent. He is not the owner of the account. This is the reason why it is advised not to assist people at the ATM when you do not know them. They would tell you they cannot withdraw or give u a flimsy excuse so u can help them withdraw monies they transfer to u from another person's account. This is a bitter lesson.
