GTB always makes sense jare. No knee jerk reflex when it comes to hiking exchange rate or even reducing same when it drops. The latter is what peeps bank on when refunds from AE and Alibaba are made. GTB usually pays back in the prevailing exchange rate.

Rate as at yesterday on AE is 365 naira.

You made a purchase and checked how much was deducted?
They debited me at a rate of 377.

I was actually surprised with testimonies about GT. I have known them to charge high rates so I just try to work with USD card as much as possible. You can get their USD debit card

Oops. I only reckoned with the check out price that was written in Naira.

Perhaps I'll have to compare to what was deducted from my akanti.

How to go about that?

Get a USD account, sign up for a debit USD card, that's it. There are some annual charges though

2k per meter should be fair, more or less.

This is still good. I am ok with anything less than 390-420.

I chatted GTB customer care and they told me today's exchange rate is 368. Access told me today's rate is 380 but it was 415 yesterday grin

The thing is unless something has changed recently, I found GTB rates to be more than what you get from Aboki

Perhaps there is a thickness aspect that impact the pricing, do we have any picture of this thing

Of course the thickness determines the pricing.

Check copper bars in either building material or electrical shops. Make a choice from what you see. It looks like this picture from a jiji seller https://jiji. ng/ojo/building-materials/copper-bar-11643575.html

As usual you gotta join the space in the url.

Just reporting what a seller said. Not in any way associated with said seller. In open market, any seller can sell at whatever price he likes. The onus now falls on the buyer to buy or not. Also most of these sellers ain't that educated, so I won't be surprised if he is giving me wrong info.

Quick question on inverters

Charging my inverter batteries from the grid / mains (PHCN) while using a prepaid meter will be consuming my meter token/units very fast.

And charging with a generator will be burning fuel and still end up reducing / weakening battery life.

So what’s actually the purpose of inverters? As either way, it’s costly and you end up losing

Inverters (with inbuilt chargers) provide you power from your battery and charges your battery. You may consider including solar set-up to reduce the cost on metered utility supply.

You are only looking at the money aspect.
Have you forgotten that you will be having 24/7 electricity with the setup plus PHCN?

If Nigeria were to have 24/7 electricity, we will not be paying all these 1k, 3k or even 5k+ we pay as electricity bill, it will be way higher cheesy

Anyway like someone said, add solar panels. That's the only way you can truly say you are off grid.
