GeorgeTheCoder:You are the one without sense. The massive N15/litre would free up funds for people to buy other things, patronize other businesses and even visit that long wished site of theirs, boosting other sectors of the economy. If transport costs also come down,it would also boost travel, leading to more taxes to government, more income to transport companies leading to even some added boost to jobs. It's commonsense, use it. 4 Likes |

Okay. But in a regulated economy, there should be a multiplier effect on this reduction all levels of price for goods and services. Particularly transport fares, prices of goods etc. 2 Likes |

LagosEconomist: Exactly But the problem is, doing so meets heavy duty protests from the Nigerian people. This is one point where the greedy elite and the average Nigerian agree....subsidy 'benefits' both sides.....at the expense of our economic development |

GeorgeTheCoder: Between you and the govt, who's more useless? All the monies from Abacha loot and world bank and dem dem they've channelled into other critical areas over the years; in what ways have they affected you? Worldwide, countries have reduced their pump prices naturally and FG has followed suit to ease the purchasing crunch on the masses and you're faulting it. Some of you can never be pleased. 2 Likes 2 Shares |

It’s still too expensive it should be 87 or 70 naira by now . The worst now is when they eventually reduce it most fuel stations in Nigeria especially the east and Benin city will still sell at 145 with the excuse of ‘na old stock’ but if the reverse was the case now in less than a second they all sell at the new price . 2 Likes 1 Share |

Oblang: Remove the subsidy regime, Remove the dual exchange rate system and you plugs a hole that leaks at least $10 billion that disappears each year. A fair and incorrupt system will regulate itself and local prices will balance out & more importantly, there will be investment in the sector for local refining (beyond Dangote) This was mostly Sanusi basis for declaring $25 billion (or whatever) missing under Jonathan. Unremitted revenue to the Federation account due to sudsidy and other deductions by NNPC. It continues today, but no one says anything. Any government that has even the tiniest interest in reducing corruption will introduce these policies. Link access to forex to verifiable payment of taxes by Corporations and individuals in the previous year, & not allow connected people make billions of dollars a year from arbitrage from multiple exchange rates in the name of subsidizing religious pilgrimages & school fees for the children of millionaires. These things are not difficult but the leadership & Governance structure in Nigeria is showing an incurable addiction to corruption even as the ship is sinking. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Another pointless political move loading... A sensible government would take advantage of the current low oil prices to quietly eliminate the fuel subsidy policy for good. |

The reduction will Not affect transportation & prices of foodstuffs...why not use it for a profitable investment?? Instead, go after all those kerosene & diesel sellers, bcoz kerosene is still above N200, which isn't fair since it has been deregulated |
