You are not alone..you have to work on your mind set too, if you are not careful it will take over your life. Have postive mind that it will not kill you. Ulcer is something I don't wish for my friends and enemies. For the pass 2months now I have not been sleeping well. One thing I know for sure to win the war is to change your mind set and kill the anxiety in your body. Anxiety(fear) triggers ucler pains too..I have been on antibiotics for the pass one month and now I have oral Candida due to medication. Try treat GERD..you might have GERD which has close symptoms with P.ulcer. talk to your Doctor about possible ways to test for GERD. Hmm. Believe me when I say those antibiotics ok the long run will cause more harm than good. Most Nigerian docs don't get it. Take your time to extensively research. It's supposed to be a one off treatment and dats it. In other countries docs will prescribed probiotics and other stuff to help your tommy restore its good bacteria after a long term use. In d end, the overuse of antibiotics will kill of all the good bacteria in your tommy that should aid good digestion and you may end up again with food intolerances and even ibs. Give yourself time to heal at least a month after meds. Keep being positive. GERD is different though. Its pain is in d chest area and not in the tommy |

geekybabe: Hi everyone, I discovered a lot of people have been asking for solutions, remedies and cure for ulcer. I have some tips and advise to give as regards that. I have had ulcer for almost 6years now, and I can tell u its not been funny. Vomiting, stooling with blood, intense pains overnight, chronic heartburn, etc.
Recently I started a few natural remedies, and I have felt relief that I've never known in my life. And now I know that the end of ulcer is here!
There are a few things u should know. I have seen a lot of doctors, and I can tell u, they all prescribe the same things. Antacids, antibiotics(flagyl, amoxicillin, cimetidine, etc) or a combination of d two with omeprazole tablets (meprasil, rabeprazole, ulcertret, omez, etc). Some prescribe Ulcer kits. Its the same combination( pyrox combi, ulsa-kit, etc). They usually prescribe dis for 2wks or less, depending on the intensity of the pain.
I have taken all this medications a number of times, and though it may provide relief for a while, it doesn't cure the ulcer. The worst part is the adverse effects of taking this strong antibiotics(e.g flagyl) which leads to stomach pain, vomiting, dehydration, loss of appetite and all. Attimes it could get so bad that u just have to stop them. All this things av their own effects on the body, its more complex for us females as I discovered it affects my cycle attimes. After a while, maybe a month or 2, d pain comes back and u begin the treatment again. Its crazy I tell u. Anyways, here are a few remedies that every ulcer patient must know especially when pain becomes recurrent: 1. Stop taking fried foods( fried meat or fish, plantain etc) or too oily meals (fried rice). 2. Stay away from spicy foods( suya, pepper soup, etc) 3. Stay away from hard. And crunchy snacks ( plantain chips, potato chips etc) 4. Avoid carbonated drinks! ( Coke, malt, sprite la casera, etc). They cause a lot of pain for an ulcer patient. Take plenty of water instead, or drink youghurt. 5. Avoid mint sweets (lemon plus, peppermint, tom-tom and the likes). Also don't take garri, or rough meals like eba.
Here are some healthy things you should do. 1. Take plenty of water. Take at least a litre of water every morning when u wake up. Thus helps to dilute the acid your stomach may av secreted over nite. 2. Eat swallows more with draw soup, (ewedu, okro, etc less of egusi) 3. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. E.g bananas, apples, watermelon, avocado, cucumber, carrots and cabbage. ORANGES ARE NOT GOOD FOR ULCER PATIENTS. 4. If u can get apple cider vinegar(ACV), its good for heartburns and ulcer too. Just add like 2tablespoons of it into a glass of water. It gives relief. Research just showed dat antacids are not too good for heartburns. 5. Eat in bits. A little at a time, so ur stomach can digest it in bits. Always av snacks like biscuits, banana, with you if u know in case you are hungry. 6. Too much of some nuts, may cause pains. (E.g groudnut, walnut, cashew nuts.) NEVER eat ROASTED CORN. Its rough and can cause the ulcer to bleed, hence causing pain.
I did some research online, and I found a few natural remedies. 1. Grate like 8 unripe plantains in 4-5litres of water in a keg. Let it ferment for at least 48hrs. Take a cup at least 3 or 4 times a day, in the morning afternoon and night, and before u sleep. Its preferable if u take it an hour before meals. I have been using this particular therapy and its working wonders! Take it for like 3weeks or so. It has no side effects that I av seen so far, just adhere to d normal ulcer do's and donts. 2. Cabbage juice has been found to heal ulcers too. I tried it but couldn't tolerate it for long cos it was making me feel like vomiting. Heard its good if u blend with carrot and drink. Its should be taken instantly for best results. Don't store d juice in a fridge. It can make u stool a little, but it worked well when I used it. 3. While this natural remedies are good, it doesn't mean you should stay away from your doctor. Make sure you have a doctor that's monitoring you.
Most of all, its all this things I av written require discipline. There is nothing like a peaceful mind too. Worry less, and stay stress free. Then trust God for a good health cause he is the one who gives health and peace! I hope i have helped quite a number of people with this. Thanks. I would reply to any questions u have. after the 3 days of the plantain mixture should i throwaway the sliced plantains or i should leave it in the water? 1 Like |

Thanks for all the response. I love the way you have been active on the thread. I have read everything from page 1-13. I have been suffering from this thing since last year. I did endoscopy and they said its active gastritis. Please I wish to know, is it worst or lesser than ulcer?
Another thing is about tomatoes stew. is it OK to eat. I don't fry it that much
I have tried to identify some of my trigger like garri lemon orange etc it's really difficult not eating it as garri is one of our major food
I did the plantain stuff today n Will start drinking it in 48hours. Another question is pls can I be taking the cabbage juice n the unripe plantain water together because I bought both items and want to face this thing squarely by God's grace
Thanks for ur time Hello are you cured of gastritis?.. though I know I had it for years but my only trigger was garri and empty stomach could eat anything even drink alcohol if I wish to .. but since I was prescribed flagyl for another infection.. have been in pain everyday without mercy |

Antibiotics has a way of triggering ulcer pains. Take lots and lots of water and antacids. And eat non greasy or soft foods like plain rice or potatoes. The rice has to be very soft. Or eat boiled plantains. Once you complete your flag yo dosage, work hard to repair your gut. Lots of soft foods.. don’t take milk. Eat lots of fiber like oats. |

Hi there. Sorry about your ulcer. What exactly is the diagnosis? gastric ulcer or duodenal? The approach to each is different and I will tell you that what really works for ulcer healing is your diet. Medications like antibiotics when prescribed will only treat infections if your ulcer is infected. Ulcer meds, usually referred to as PPIS, e.g Omeprazole, lansoprazole, etc will only surpres stomach acid secretion. But your stomach still needs to heal while it is digesting foods you eat. What are you eating and when are you eating what you are eating? How much of food do you eat at a time and are you avoiding the foods that trigger the pain? Anyways, you can check the first post on this thread where I listed certain foods to avoid if you have an ulcer, and also foods to eat. It doesnt matter what medications and natural herbs you use, As long as you do not choose healthy habits and eat right, stomach ulcer can be really difficult to get over. Avoid oranges and citrus fruits. Avoid fried foods of any kind. Avoid nuts, chips or any crunchy snack like chinchin. Start your day every morning with a glass or two of warm water to dilute your overnight stomach acid and make your tommy ready for the day. be mindful of your breakfast. Start with something soft and easy to digest. Like pap, oats, or a cup of smoothie. Dont start your day with a big plate of rice and beans or yam and fried egg. Eat in bits. Dont eat any heavy meals at least 5 hours before bedtime. and take lots of water. Eat bananas a lot. Bananas, cucumbers, these are fruits that will help you heal. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Thanks for your respond, honestly I really do not know the type of ulcer I'm suffering from, over the years I have been prescribe different types of tablets ranging from ulcerskit to omefast plus which is the same combination with Ulcerkit, attached is the result of my upper endoscopy test done around feb last year, the doctor did prescribe Nexium after the test, I told him I have been using Nexium and he said I wasn't using properly,He told me to go use for two to three weeks but I used it for a month plus. I really don't eat eggs, beans or yam the only foods I have been eating for three years is semo, rice and pap although sometimes I eat my rice and semo heavy because have lost so much weights,i dropped from 67 to 48-49 and this give me concerns , so I had to start eating heavy at some point so I can gain back my lost weight but this comes with lot of pains after eating such, today I'm still weighing between 49-50,eating banana trigger my pains so i stop eating it and sometimes I get scared of even eating because the pains start immediately after I eat. |

blkmum700:
Blkmum700, I'm not a doctor, but from the results u shared and a little google research i did, seems its gastric ulcer. Meaning d pain is usually in front of your abdomen, maybe close to your upper navel area. Correct me if I'm wrong. Honestly, gastritis is about the easiest ulcer type that can be managed as long as you fully understand your body and your triggers. For the weight loss, you are not loosing weight due to your ulcer. You are loosing weight due to the many meds you are taking, loss of nutrients and stress. You are anxious and stress and that only makes ulcer pains worse. Lets start with the meds you are taken. PPIs, e.g nexium, omeprazole, rabeprazole or lansoprazole. I've taken either of these at some point in d past. Lansoprazole is about the only one I have used with minimal side effects. Nexium sent me to the ER. What docs will not tell you is the nasty side effects that these meds have on the long run. They are meds that you should only take for 14 days or maximum of 28 days at a stretch and then you wait for your stomach to heal. Taking them for 2 or 3 months at a stretch isnt effective cos your body creates a dependency on them and it becomes difficult to stop. Some of them have side effects ranging from dry mouth, to heart palpitations, to tinnitus, to lightheadedness and insomnia. Long term ppi use has also been associated with magnesium deficiency, which could affect your bones in later life. So even though u are so focused on the ulcer, the meds could be doing much bigger problems. Gradually reduce your doses when you want to stop. If you have to take any of these PPIs, take them in d morning before your breakfast. They are most effective then. Dont take them after a meal. PPIs work best on an empty stomach and can suppress the acid and make your tommy ready for the day. Antibiotics. These ones do more harm than good. I haven't taken any in my tommy for over 5 years. They mess up your gut. They kill good bacteria that is supposed to aid digestion in your stomach. They make you weak and can even cause weight-loss. If your doc recommends it as part of your treatment because of h.pylori infection, it shouldn't be for more than 2 weeks. Afterwards just discontinue pls. Stay with PPIs for the rest of your treatment and dont randomly buy antibiotics to self medicate. You can do without them. I relocated to a country where you need a doctors prescription for most meds and that was when i realised i needed to break my dependency on meds. And i can tell you, you can do without antibiotics for ulcer. For the food, trust me, your stomach cannot handle semo well because it is heavy and it is loaded with gluten and your stomach is sensitive due to the ulcers. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, and every food made from wheat, wheat flour has gluten. Semo is made from wheat so it has gluten. Same as bread, cake, and most baked goods. You may not get a doc to tell you all this, except maybe a gastroenterologist who has a versatile experience treating digestive problems. So you might want to reduce the quantity of semo, and rather focus on amala, rice, or choose pounded yam/poundo yam instead of semo. Yam doesnt have gluten. If you have to eat swallow, avoid egusi. Take ewedu, okro instead. Ewedu, also known as slippery elm, is used to treat ulcers and digestive issues in some parts of the world. If you have to eat pap, make sure it is not hot. Lukewarm maybe. Try and get more fibre into your meals. Number 1 source of fibre for me is oatsmeal. Go and buy quaker oats and let it be a regular staple in your meals. I have oatsmeal almost everyday for breakfast. Its simple to make and you will get used to it. If you can tolerate milk, use milk with the oatsmeal in minimal quantity. If you can't, try tigernut milk, or any plant based milk like coconut milk or almond milk. This maybe quite expensive in Nigeria so u can use normal milk in minimal quantity. Eat vegetables. Cabbage, carrots, efo riro with minimal oil. Oily foods will cause pain for you after eating. Increase your fibre and vegetables. I don't know why banana upsets your tommy, but it works for many people. If you can, instead of eating the fruits, make a smoothie by blending the fruits together with water or any other liquid. Drink d smoothie gradually. That way its easier for your tommy to digest the fruits. This is a lifestyle change but trust me, you need to focus on healing your gut and focus less on d ulcers. Dont eat heavy. Eating 7 times a day in bits is better than eating 2 heavy meals. And please while at it, try to sleep well and dont stress. I hope i have been able to share a little. Do your own research online. Watch YouTube videos and read books to understand your digestive system and how you can overcome ulcers. All d best. 7 Likes |

i geekybabe:
Blkmum700,
I'm not a doctor, but from the results u shared and a little google research i did, seems its gastric ulcer.
All d best.
You are very right. |
