Hi everyone, I discovered a lot of people have been asking for solutions, remedies and cure for ulcer. I have some tips and advise to give as regards that.

I have had ulcer for almost 6years now, and I can tell u its not been funny. Vomiting, stooling with blood, intense pains overnight, chronic heartburn, etc.

Recently I started a few natural remedies, and I have felt relief that I've never known in my life. And now I know that the end of ulcer is here!

There are a few things u should know. I have seen a lot of doctors, and I can tell u, they all prescribe the same things. Antacids, antibiotics(flagyl, amoxicillin, cimetidine, etc) or a combination of d two with omeprazole tablets (meprasil, rabeprazole, ulcertret, omez, etc). Some prescribe Ulcer kits. Its the same combination( pyrox combi, ulsa-kit, etc). They usually prescribe dis for 2wks or less, depending on the intensity of the pain.

I have taken all this medications a number of times, and though it may provide relief for a while, it doesn't cure the ulcer. The worst part is the adverse effects of taking this strong antibiotics(e.g flagyl) which leads to stomach pain, vomiting, dehydration, loss of appetite and all. Attimes it could get so bad that u just have to stop them. All this things av their own effects on the body, its more complex for us females as I discovered it affects my cycle attimes.

After a while, maybe a month or 2, d pain comes back and u begin the treatment again. Its crazy I tell u.

Anyways, here are a few remedies that every ulcer patient must know especially when pain becomes recurrent:
1. Stop taking fried foods( fried meat or fish, plantain etc) or too oily meals (fried rice).
2. Stay away from spicy foods( suya, pepper soup, etc)
3. Stay away from hard. And crunchy snacks ( plantain chips, potato chips etc)
4. Avoid carbonated drinks! ( Coke, malt, sprite la casera, etc). They cause a lot of pain for an ulcer patient. Take plenty of water instead, or drink youghurt.
5. Avoid mint sweets (lemon plus, peppermint, tom-tom and the likes). Also don't take garri, or rough meals like eba.

Here are some healthy things you should do.
1. Take plenty of water. Take at least a litre of water every morning when u wake up. Thus helps to dilute the acid your stomach may av secreted over nite.
2. Eat swallows more with draw soup, (ewedu, okro, etc less of egusi)
3. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. E.g bananas, apples, watermelon, avocado, cucumber, carrots and cabbage. ORANGES ARE NOT GOOD FOR ULCER PATIENTS.
4. If u can get apple cider vinegar(ACV), its good for heartburns and ulcer too. Just add like 2tablespoons of it into a glass of water. It gives relief. Research just showed dat antacids are not too good for heartburns.
5. Eat in bits. A little at a time, so ur stomach can digest it in bits. Always av snacks like biscuits, banana, with you if u know in case you are hungry.
6. Too much of some nuts, may cause pains. (E.g groudnut, walnut, cashew nuts.) NEVER eat ROASTED CORN. Its rough and can cause the ulcer to bleed, hence causing pain.

I did some research online, and I found a few natural remedies.
1. Grate like 8 unripe plantains in 4-5litres of water in a keg. Let it ferment for at least 48hrs. Take a cup at least 3 or 4 times a day, in the morning afternoon and night, and before u sleep. Its preferable if u take it an hour before meals. I have been using this particular therapy and its working wonders! Take it for like 3weeks or so. It has no side effects that I av seen so far, just adhere to d normal ulcer do's and donts.
2. Cabbage juice has been found to heal ulcers too. I tried it but couldn't tolerate it for long cos it was making me feel like vomiting. Heard its good if u blend with carrot and drink. Its should be taken instantly for best results. Don't store d juice in a fridge. It can make u stool a little, but it worked well when I used it.
3. While this natural remedies are good, it doesn't mean you should stay away from your doctor. Make sure you have a doctor that's monitoring you.

Most of all, its all this things I av written require discipline. There is nothing like a peaceful mind too. Worry less, and stay stress free. Then trust God for a good health cause he is the one who gives health and peace!
I hope i have helped quite a number of people with this. Thanks. I would reply to any questions u have.

Thanks for all the response. I love the way you have been active on the thread. I have read everything from page 1-13. I have been suffering from this thing since last year. I did endoscopy and they said its active gastritis. Please I wish to know, is it worst or lesser than ulcer?

Another thing is about tomatoes stew. is it OK to eat. I don't fry it that much

I have tried to identify some of my trigger like garri lemon orange etc it's really difficult not eating it as garri is one of our major food

I did the plantain stuff today n Will start drinking it in 48hours. Another question is pls can I be taking the cabbage juice n the unripe plantain water together because I bought both items and want to face this thing squarely by God's grace

Thanks for ur time

Gastritis is mild really. Just take omeprazole, and avoid the triggers. Some food to avoid are
1. Heavily spiced food. Spicy is different from pepperish. Avoid both as much as possible
2. Avoid chocolate or anything that has cocoa has much as possible! Avoid it like plague.
3. Avoid soft drinks, alcohol, and too hot teas. Avoid cofee or drinks with caffeine no matter how little.
4. Grill and boil rather than fry. Stay off crunch snacks, and fried foods.
5. Avoid orange and citrus fruits.

If you avoid this triggers, believe me you can be fine. Check online for other triggers.

Well cabbage juice can cause diarrhea so be careful with it.
Here is a list of food that I still eat and are good for you:
Rice, beans, yam, potatoes, oats, moimoi, bananas, apples, amala, and anything as far as it's not fried or spicy. I blend tomatoes in my stew and it doesn't cause any discomfort. Others might have. Just make a list of what causes pain for you and avoid it.

But please forgive my ignorance. When ur say heavily spiced food' what do ur mean? Is it too much Maggi...
I use star Maggi and naija pot in my cookings

After so many years of avoiding these foods, have you started taking them or do you still avoid them... Thanks

Things like pepper soup, grilled fish, suya etc. and stuff. They are heavily spicy and spiced.

Well living healthy means staying off trigger foods. That simple. The moment you start eating them again the pain always comes back. There are a lot of other healthier food alternatives so why stick to the ones that make you uncomfortable?

With pain, there is a lot of things. First maybe the ulcer has h pylori infection.
Give yourself time to really heal.these are times to really abstain strictly, eat fiber, stay off anything hot, warm or oily. InfAct at this point avoid gluten. Bread, wheat. Let yourself heal. With time the pains will go away. Be patient, and don't stress. Stress causes a relapse in the healing process. The pain always goes away.

After the normal 2 week ulcer treatment, you need to be very patient. Meds keep working even few more weeks after the treatment.

I can relate with the OP; once you have suffered the pains of gastritis, you obviously become a researcher. My cousin has tired f going to hospital. His is like 2 years now. he has done endoscopy, (after treating HYPylori severally, even tested negative at a point early this year,) which shows Antral gastritis. Even a Biospy was taken and we were afraid of cancer but no cancer buy shows scanty H.Pylori with diagnosis as H.Pylori chronic moderately active gastritis. It is been difficult with no one day of full relief. He just completed another tripple therapy, still complaining. May God heal us all.

Things is the solution to gastritis is not the triple therapy. It's simply identifying what causes flares and staying off it completely. It's funny after how many years I kept repeating this therapy but it just did not worked. The bad side is even that the antibiotics kill the good bacteria in your digestive system and make it difficult for you to easily tolerate some foods. Gastritis can be managed easily without triple therapy. I started this thread over 5 years ago and I keep learning about ulcers and gastritis everyday from experience. I have not even had an endoscopy. Not sure I will anytime soon. I know what my symptoms are and I try to stay off triggers. There are weeks and months I don't even have any flares.

Okay relax. It's not that bad.
You can eat white rice, boiled beans (without palm oil or pepper), amala with ewedu or okro, you can eat boiled yam , fish, chicken, and eggs has far as it's boiled.
Avoid greasy foods cause it looks like your tommy is very sensitive. Avoid any form of oily foods including palm oil. Garri is rough so avoid Garry.
Focus on soft tender foods. Lots of veggies, boiler plantain, bananas, and take lots of oats. Oats should be your major breakfast now. You can try yoghurt too instead of milk.
When trying things, you should try in bits and see if it works. Never over eat. Eat lukewarm meals. No hot meals.

Eat light in the evening at least 3 hours before you sleep. Eat bananas a lot. My best approach to fruits is to take smoothies. I simply blend yoghurt with bananas, apples, watermelon, cabbage, and any other non-citrus fruits.

When you start to heal you can reintroduce wheat /gluten.
I'll try to find links to share with you. Please try not to stress, it doesn't matter the number of meds you take, your ulcer/gastritis is worsened with stressing and anxiety.

I have bn having issue with ulcer for the pass 2months now.. I have taken 2packs of ulskit but I was only relieved for about 2weeks and now pains are back. which triggers my bp. Before I took the ulskit I was asked to go for ulcer test and H.pylori was positive(so sad).
Present symptoms now
1. Back and chest pain( up and down)
2.stomach pains
3. Funny feelings along my throat and accompying with lite cough( not always)
4. Bitter and sour taste after taking food or medication (ulcer drugs and malaria drugs).
5. Flat taste within some minutes after eating
6. Stomach makes funny noise lipsrsealed
7. Blood in stool undecided
8. Sometimes heart palpitation
9. Can't sleep flat on my back
etc..

I have used the unripe plantain cure before but with ulskit kit which I was fine for some weeks.
I read some article online about peptic ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a chronic acid reflux. Question: the treatment for peptic ulcer and gastroesophageal reflux disease are they the same?
Can unripe plantain cure both disease or only meant to treat peptic ulcer? All Nigerian doctors are not helping matters they will not allow someone to talk ... Please I need recommendations on test to undergo to point out my issue. Thanks in Advance

O.P. I think you should also enlighten people on how people get H.Pylori. pardon me if you have done that before. Most people eat out and the hygiene of people preparing the food, the people themselves. I went to a canteen one day and it has one toilet in a short distance from the canteen. I was waiting, nobody came. Then I saw the guy I met going to toilet when I was going in. He said what did i want and I was sure there's no soap and water in the toilet and he didn't watch his hands. I told him he wouldn't sell food for me. because I saw him, what If I didn't see him. This is how majority of us are getting this bacteria.

Hmm. Acid reflux/GERD is when excess acid flows up through oesophagus into your throats causing discomfort and heartburn. Clearly you have GERD from all your symptoms.

The weird part is some of the meds used for treating ulcer cause acid reflux symptoms to worsen.
1. Never eat at least 3 hours before sleep.
2. Sleep on the left side and elevate your upper body well to avoid acid from flowing up your oesophagus when you sleep overnight.
3. Don't bother taking cough syrup. If your sore throats and cough is caused by acid reflux, you have to treat the acid reflux.
4. Discontinue the plantain therapy. Reflux can be awful and discomforting. Talk to your doc. Do not eat hot meals. You have to treat the reflux. The last time i talked about a med here I was banned.
But if you can get ranitidine (150mg), take it morning and night for a week or two, you'll feel some relief. then go and get antacids. I'm not sure you can get sulcrafate in Nigeria it works too. Try and talk to a doctor who understands and can listen.
Once you can treat your GERD, the symptoms disappears outrightly.

I am really happy to hear dis, am also grateful for your recommendation and advice. Please can you recommend good antacids med pls? Thank you once again

I know there is gestid. Though it has a weird after taste. Gascol is better. And flavoured too.
I'm not in Nigeria but I have also used gaviscon at some point. I dunno if you can find it.

Try those after every meal especially. Try to use acid suppressing meds (omeprazole, ranitidine) preferably before meals on an emtpy stomach. Let banana be your friend. You need to also see a doc if bloody stool persists.

Please note that you should stay off this if you are on other medication. This plantain solution is a home remedy. Typhoid is caused by bacteria and you should carefully treat it using meds. Discontinue the plantain therapy and focus of recommended meds. I'm not a doc and this post about the plantain remedy is 4 years old. It worked for some and others used it for maintenance. Some pple still said it didn't work. The extent of Ulcer and gastritis damage is different for everyone.

Hi

Has anybody gotten permanent cure yet?

I started feeling this gnawing pain on the lower right hand side of my stomach 2yrs ago, visited the hospital and was told that i have peptic ulcer through a blood test which was conducted to test for h pylori. Since then, I've been suffering from this thing, I practically live in pain daily and I'm tired.
I've treated it twice with orthodox medicine to no avail, i avoid all most all the triggers mentioned here, still no difference, I dont experience heart burn or chest pain, just lower tummy pain and back pain.

I really don't now what to do now cos i can't continue living like this. Anybody who tried alternative medicine and it worked for them should please leave a comment for me.

Thanks

You are not alone..you have to work on your mind set too, if you are not careful it will take over your life. Have postive mind that it will not kill you. Ulcer is something I don't wish for my friends and enemies. For the pass 2months now I have not been sleeping well. One thing I know for sure to win the war is to change your mind set and kill the anxiety in your body. Anxiety(fear) triggers ucler pains too..I have been on antibiotics for the pass one month and now I have oral Candida due to medication. Try treat GERD..you might have GERD which has close symptoms with P.ulcer. talk to your Doctor about possible ways to test for GERD.
