I have a perfectly working 4-year old 24v outback inverter (VFX-3024E) that I will like to exchange for a 48V variety or another good inverter or sell for cash if I get a reasonable offer. I also have a mate 3 I can sell at a reasonable price.

Thanks for the response. Pls does it overcharge and how will i know if it has fully charged my battery. Thanks.

It's a smart rectifier, will stop charging when battery is full.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
This is not a charger but rather a power supply unit predominantly used in Telecomms

Nigerians have repurposed it as a lead acid battery charger especially because of the very cheap price and high current capability.

Unfortunately, this charger in its default state can only 'float charge' a battery - the max voltage it can do is approximately 13.38v per 12v - this is insufficient to charge a lead acid battery properly but can quickly get you through the bulk charge stage.

I dimly recall that KieKie and one other source told me once that the techs at Oshodi could mod the PSU to put out higher voltages up to the 14v range per 12v battery - if this could be done reliably, it would make an excellent battery charger indeed.

Are you saying it can't charge my battery full? What can the charger do? Oh! And i have paid 25k for it.

Hmm....is this the move to Lifepo4 48v process cool

Sounds like it will be a good charge for Lifepo4 batteries wink

Please what’s the meaning of the FTA on the title of the thread ?

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. The 24v version I've seen in operation can only do maximum of 26.8v or 13.4v, most lead acid needs something capable of pushing up to 14.4v, I guess that is the major drawback of it. But you can always check to see if yours can charge up to 14.4v, who knows whether they may just have tweaked it so.

Free To Air, I guess the thread started as a means to get power to enable DIY enthusiasts watch their FTA satellite TV. But these days it's more about DIYing renewable energy than the FTA.

my inverter is a 24V 2.3kva microtek inverter

Recently installed this week with 2 batteries 12V each

But I wanna add 2 more batteries for more backup time.

Can four batteries work on it, because each battery is 12V and times four is 48V

pls how can it be tweaked to get 14.4v. It is reading 13.4v as full charge.

Yes, connect in parallel

I don't think 4x12v 60A will be 240, it will be 120A 24v

You have a point. Except you go through Google search, the thread is difficult to locate if you were to use category in NL to get there.

Cool. Image was pulled off internet, interested in showing him how to connect in parallel. Didn't even bother to see if the math in image is correct as it is irrelevant to what I'm trying to show him.

Is Lagos shutdown not affecting you?

If people place order, does it mean you can deliver so long as destination is to states without lockdown?

Actually, I did. Not willing to willfully destroy a much beloved MN Classic 150. I'll post pictures later (typical makeshift stuff so don't laugh).

He's more at risk from his fellow man than foreign items that had stayed days in transit with coronavirus, if any, long dead.

I'm sorry for having omitted this altogether. I've dismantled that particular setup but would kind of "redo" it for illustrative purposes tomorrow morning.

Hey guys, I’m new to this

How will I know when my inverter battery is full?

I charge with solar panels and Nepa too.

Battery is costly.
Your charger will tell you when it is full.
Let your charger be in charge but it should report what it is doing to you, the boss.
If it doesn't report to you, fire the charger asap.

A sure way to know is to either to buy a clamp meter and measure the current flowing into the battery, if the current is zero on the meter, when there is NEPA or solar, the battery is full.

Or if your inverter has an LCD or LED display that shows the state of charge when the battery is full.
