What are you even saying? Everybody knows it's just like a normal bid process, when the seller pegs the minimum for £40m it is only normal for you as a prospective buyer to better that minimum asking price with something reasonable.

£1 in Suarez's case is not reasonable by all standards. Adding £1,000,000.00 to that wouldn't have made Arsenal bankrupt. Whoever sanctioned that bid be it Wenger or the board is to blame for the deal going south.

A vehicle was put up for bidding at a friend's workplace recently. The asking price was 1.4m, my friend wanted to bid 1.450m but I told him to do 1.470m to show seriousness. He did and won the bid. That's how u show seriousness in the market, not giving insulting offers
Why won't you people understand this is not a bid process or bargain example. A fixed buy out clause in a contract is not negotiable. It doesn't have to be reasonable they just had to fulfill what the contract demanded. If it was stated clearly in Suarez contract that any bid above 40million Suarez could leave the club then arsenal triggered the clause with the 40million + 1 pound simple as that. The agent gave Arsenal wrong interpretation of the contract clause.

Bad financial advice.

There was auction too last year at my office for used 2hp AC. I told a junior colleague to bid N15,000, he was like will it work? I asked, what would you lose? He did and won. He wanted to bid N75,000

There is a lot of misinformation to this story, so that sentiment got the better of the fans.

Oga we are talking of a Toyota Corolla 2013 model here. A vehicle that was bought brand new and was disposed immediately the net book value became zero after 3 years.

Go and check the tokunbo value and come back to tell me if it's a bad financial advice. Do u think I major in sciences?

Even you are still wrong.

It was actually not a buy-out clause, it was just a sum stated in his contract that will trigger discussions. The way it was supposed to work is this; once an offer in the excess of £40m is received, they were supposed to inform Suarez and open discussions.

As far as loserpool is concerned, the £1 is insulting and decided not to even open discussion with arsenal cos they assume nothing good will come out of the discussion

You don't pin such things on agents. Arsenal have people who work in legal who understand the terms of contracts. Why do u rely on the agent's interpretation of a contract u want to buy a player out of?

Why didn't our legal look at the contract too before make ing such laughable offer?

See arsenal fumbled and loserpool ensured they mad us laughing stock by publicizing the offer.

Arsenal don't have the legal right to access Suarez contract papers. It's the information from the agent the club will follow. We took the matter to PFA who then looked at the clause and decided Liverpool interpretation was the correct one.

What I'm saying is this ; an agent will not just walk up to u and tell u my player has a buy out clause of 20m with word of mouth, he will show u an evidence of such contract in place. You then carefully study it and look at it and see if his claim is correct or not.

It's just like going for a job interview where u are asked Ur current annual earnings. You may tell them 5m with a status car at the various stages of the interview and use it to bargain let's say 7m + an SUV. Before giving u the offer the company will definitely ask for Ur previous employment latter/ recent pay slip to confirm Ur claim. They don't just believe Ur claim na.

So saying arsenal rely solely on what the agent interpreted is somehow unbelievable. Except the way football contract works is quite different from what we are made to underatsnd

In football only the agency representing the player and the club have access to the player contract. They are some terms made public as stated by the league rules e.g Spain has a mandatory buyout clause for all players which are made public while England doesn't. Basically we had an agreement with Suarez around summer for transfer and his agent gave us an inside tip of a clause in his contract that would work to our benefit after our initial bid was rejected and who better to trust than the agent representing the player, so we dived in thinking we were in control and being smart.

I believe most people know my stand on Auba matters.

Auba is arguably our best player for 2 consecutive years now, while he is not as skillful/technical as some of the strikers of other big clubs like Benzema, Suarez, Rashford, Firminho etc, he has proven to be a dependable goal machine that has been bailing us out even under "Good Ebening's" purposeless football Era. We all know selling him would have a really negative impact on our rebuilding process.

However, with the above said you and I know it is counter productive trying to keep player who is no longer committed to the club. At least we saw that in Alexis' last season at arsenal ; at a point it looked as if he was deliberately giving the ball to opponents after showboating for minutes with no resukt to show.

I will support the sale of a non-commiting Auba for anything around the region of 60m and above, while we get not just a replacement for him but also quality players in other positions like midfield. We need to stop relying solely on our striker to score, our midfielders too need to contribute more goals. We need players who would step up on a day the striker is having a bad day and firing blanks. Like somebody suggested up there, let's clear dead woods like Mkhitaryan, El Neny, Mustafi and Co. Let's have a balanced team first.

With a balanced team, the striker's position will not be as important as it is presently at arsenal. Loserpool has a balanced team which was what we saw in their run to winning the champions league last season. Players like Wijnaldum, Fabinho, Alexander- Arnold would just turn up while Sallah or Mane are not hitting the targets. Let's improve our team in other positions and get a replacement for Auba and see how it goes.

By default The front4 of a good team should be banging in goals, as seen with De bruyne,Sterling,Mahrez and Aguero.

Ozil is never ready to shoot but assist from a tap in position.
Pepe shoots like Iwobi.
Laca isn't clinical enough.

Liverpool's front 3 do 70%+ of the goals.

As in.....Auba is not getting younger and for his quality, at this age he should at least be playing in a team that guarantees him semi final place in the champions league. Now he's playing for arsenal in the Europa league. His refusal to commit to the club is understandable and shouldn't be held against him.

It is the club tgat should do the needful and make the scouts earn the money they are being paid; they should get a replacement and let's continue the rebuilding process. We will only be making a mistake trying to convince him to stay with heavy salary like we did for ozil

Fantabulous! smiley

Actually I do agree with him. Aubameyang is over 30, he shouldn't be here next season when we want to rebuild. Arteta needs to make as in MAKE or MOULD his own players in his own image. This therefore is the right time to get some millions off him. I wouldn't mind him moving to City or MagaUnited, clubs who can easily fall Mugu. grin
Fantastic! kiss

However, I don't support him joining utd o, They only need a CF who will bang it with little hard work, Auba surrounded with Bruno/Pogba from AM, Rashford,Martial and James from flanks will be so dangerous.

He'll give another V.persie like performance for 2 seasons before he gets wrecked.

I'll blame Wenger and everyone at Arsenal for missing on Suarez, he wanted to join us, already chatting Arterta on accommodation and children school In London.

We're just lax and not proactive. Chelsea got Torres,City got Sterling from, instead Wenger wasn't serious nor desperate about him.

With £50M, he could have forced transfer, we could also have won the league with Carzola,Rosciky,Oxlade,Ramsey behind him.

Indeed, We need to ask what they were smoking at the Emirates that year.

You need to understand that Liverpool NEVER wanted to sell Suarez, talk less of letting him join us.

Suarez actually wanted to leave being instigated by his agent. He even had precontract agreement to join Arsenal.

We bidded 25m then 30m, both were rebuffed arrogantly by Liverpool.

Then the agent told us that Suarez had a release clause which when triggered would activate his exit. He said anything above 40m.

Actually he didn't understand the clause, it meant discussions would be opened on the transfer not that the player would be released.

We bidded 40m, Liverpool rejected. Then came the extra £1.

Arsenal took the case to PPA, believing there was a genuine legal case based on information from the agent.

Note that it had become obvious that Liverpool were unwilling to do business, but his agent was naive.

Arsenal lost the case.

Assuming the agent was correct on the details of the clause, Suarez would have played for us that season. This paragraph is very critical to this discuss.

It has nothing to do with Liverpool not impressed with the £1. It's about the legalities surrounding the contract.

it have everything to do with the 1pound. In your initial post, you said wenger used the one pound to spite dem. Why would any logical person do that?
Also, why were Liverpool angry for the 1pound they received?
Why did Suarez resume training immediately he found out that we offered 1 pound?
This and many more questions points that the fault is from arsenal and not any agent misinformation

This is not the same thing. It's not a bargain. This a fixed contract clause. If an agent says my client has an escape clause in his contract that says pay anything above 100naira for example you will get him then a bid of 101naira the player is yours. This is nothing like the example you are giving. Have you seen clubs bargaining over a release clause.
if it's Spain, the 40m would have worked. The 40m was to open negotiations here in England, that's why they insisted arsenal adding something. It wasn't a buy out clause. That 1 pound was an insult.
If it was a million pounds, I'm sure Liverpool will sell Suarez to us. You can't keep an unhappy player, who was almost last year on his contract (I think that's what most of you guys are forgetting).
He signed a new contract after the arsenal saga, and went on a big money move to barca the next season.

obvious reasons

the man in question is 30+ at rumored £60m. that makes little sense, especially when United just balked at something less for Erling Haaland.
his style is not what Ole is after, just more of the same.
a CF with good hold up ability to bring others around him into play is what's required in the current United set up.

Aside from been at the wrong side of age...I don't see anything that's ole will refuse him for.
Let's start...
1... He's almost at the wrong end of his contract at arsenal. Arsenal have made it known that no player will hold dem ransom again, like Sanchez and Ramsey b4 them. So the 60m quote will be off the hook. 40-50+ will be agreed on if auba really wants to go to man u.

2.. He's more of a counter attack player than a hold up play player. Yes. But we all know that's what ole wants. Striker running behind the defence, fast, dragging defenders out, and easily inter changing with wingers is what ole wants(his decision for relegating lukaku and promoting Rashford to the role).

3... He's a consistent goalscorer. And can easily give you guys 2-3yrs. Obvious improvement in you guys title challenge. And no need to adapt or blend to a new team.
Ole already gotten ighalo as an alternative or different breed striker. Don't think he needs that again

1. can't really discuss financial matters but if United refused to pay £40m+ for Haaland, it's likely they wouldn't consider that for Aubameyang.
2. when you consider Sancho is Ole's prime target for the summer then it's not feasible. James, Sancho, Martial, Rashford, Greenwood will have very similar approach. I don't see why a manager should commit funds to acquire more of the same.
3. Ighalo is on loan but it's definitely more sensible he's signed up at £8m-£13m. United wasn't really lacking goalscorers but primarily creativity [with Pogba unserious] and secondarily a CF to stand up to bullish CBs of the EPL.

now I'm not saying Aubameyang wouldn't be an improvement in isolation but from the bird nest it's not very scalable.
