Truecaller reveals ones identity.

You better don't be naive, the one that called me last year mentioned my full names as registered with my bank account where I register my bvn and bvn correctly, can you get that with truecaller too? He said he said he is calling from my bank, I asked which of the banks that I have more than one bank account , he tried to deflect by telling me I need to update some stuff, then I blasted him and he just ended the call.

I think it is all banks. They have mules selling them data.

It is because Nigerians haven't started suing all this deposit banks.
its not the bank database tho, its actually bvn site (nibs platform) these guys get their informations from. but I think they target first bank most stly cos of their mobile app setup.

no insider information. Dose information can be gotten from NIBSS portal, bvn or true caller. The advice I will give to people is never indulge in telephone banking. If need be go to ur bank for clarity

One stupid one called me yesterday and mentioned my full name. Yes, you heard me right. My full name!

Told me he was calling from Polaris Bank Customer Service. Can you imagine that? And that their manager asked him to call me in respect of the ongoing Corona virus. That they're giving out money to people. I mean the same Polaris Bank that rumour broke out recently that First Bank is at verge of acquiring, given out money to people? He probably thought he was speaking with a fool. And I don't even have an account with the said bank!

He asked if I have my ATM Card with me?

Well, I told him that he must be very stupid to call a banker to yarn rust. And that no bank will ever make such calls to their customers.

Mumu didn't even allow me finish what I was telling before he dropped the call.

It seems they're targeting women more.

Unfortunately the problem is not with the bank. I work in a bank too and funnily enough we also get this calls. This situation is the downside of BVN enrollment. Once you are enrolled, the data captured is not secure, it seems anyone can access the info on it but they still cannot defraud you unless you give them the information they ask you once they call you.
u jst said it all. Don't mind dose calling bank names. It's jst d gullible ones dat fall for dese cheap scam

Not only First Bank. I've become their regular caller. They'll call my full name, account number, date of birth and BVN number. The only thing they want is my ATM CSV number and the serial number.

Banks have failed to upgrade their network security.

Most of their sacked staff have teamed up with fraudster in this deal. They will tell the Criminals how the bank software works and the Criminals will then use their skill to maximize their crime.

If you can use truecaller to search my number get my name, while it may give you one of my names, do you think it will bring out my full names as registered with my bank? Will that also tell you my BVN?

I think FirstBank has a mole in its systems. Na so one called me yesterday and mentioned my first name, that he was calling me from FirstBank, and I asked which FirstBank. He just dropped the call on me.

So because he called and said is is from first bank, that means first bank has a mole... Abeg my friend wake up. Your info can be gotten from many places; inec, nimc, sim reg, Facebook, driving lic and so on. In as much as I agree that we have some bad banker, I can tell u that more than 80% of card related fraud being committed has nothing to do with insider...

No. True caller doesn't reveal your BVN.

This is my point! The scammer that called me, mentioned my full names, BVN and date of birth correctly, truecaller could not have released such vital personal data. I think it is an insider's job. Then I remember this scenario while opening a new account sometime ago, the banker asked for my BVN and and also if I have my registered phone with me, he was trying to get my full details thru the BVN to open the new account as well as link the new account to the BVN, then , I received a one time code on my phone which I gave to him and he used that to complete the process. So, I think those scammers need such code from you to clear your account, only an insider could get such personal data correctly if it is not a case of data base compromise.

I doubt the banks would let customers details to scammers. They bigger than that.

Truth is, your personal details are not hard to get, I could get your details even without going to the bank.

We are technologically wise sir.

But if you do not collect atm card from your bank can they still scam you?

Yes they can. There are websites that use otp for transactions. Once they call the victim and the victims give the account number, they will use the account and phone number to initiate a transaction where an otp will be sent to the victim for reconfirmation. Once the fraudsters call back and the victims give them otp, that is all.

Sorry then, didn't know you work with a bank,I now believe
And I have been busy since going from one lawyers office to another in search of where I can do a cheap Letter of administration for my late dad's accounts, when I would have just used the account and buy something online and avoid all the stress the banks are making me go through.
Thanks all the same, will have to start looking for alternatives
