Flu doesn't flood the healthcare system, that's why. Corona virus has low mortality, but is highly contagious.

And about the number of mortalities; all flu aren't caused by one single organism, but this single novel Corona virus is single-handedly wrecking havoc. Also, still a lot of not know about this virus and 'people fear what they don't understand'.

Also, the number of deaths grow exponentially until a peak is reached, so whatever values we have as per mortality right now, is still premature.

Lastly, for the sake of humanity, it's unkind to refer to deaths as numbers on a score board, millions of lives are affected

The answer to your question lies within the very information you have provided in your post.

Without any control/lockdown measures put in place, the flu infected about 36 million people and caused about 22,000 casualties abi?

If no lockdown was introduced for COVID, it is estimated that it will infect over 120million Americans which is way higher than flu. Assuming that it even only infects the same 36million persons as the normal flu did, with the supposedly low COVID death rate of about 2 percent on average in the US, that will translate to about 720,000 deaths which you will agree that is significantly higher than 22,000 death caused by the normal flu. THAT IS THE BIG DEAL.

In reality, if left unchecked without any lockdown measures, the White house estimates about 1million - 2.5million deaths in America due to COVID which is definitely a big threat to the survival of the American society or any society for that matter.

My personal experience shows that Nigeria can better treat malaria than the western world.

Three of our expatriates once had malaria. Two had the malaria before departing on vacation and opted to treat it in the UK, but sadly both died. But the third patient who treated her own here in Nigeria recovered.

Yes, this Coronavirus pandemic is very real but mortality rate in Nigeria will be low. Many will recover on their own. Is Coronavirus the same as malaria. No. But symptoms are similar and since chloroquine can be of help shows similarity in presentation. Just my feelings, though.

Forget beer parlor news and check death rate of malaria in countries and u will find out Africa has 2m deaths yearly from malaria alone, some other countries like Austria has death rate of 2 in every one thousand cases
